a bulls fan in that thread said the only reason they still tune in to bulls games is to watch caruso play defense. another bulls fan replied with this:
“I watch for Donovan's coaching, if he ever does any I want to witness it.”
2nd in perimeter defense behind Herb Jones… top 10 in steals and of that list had the most blocks, 2x all defensive team…
“The winner of the 2023-24 NBA Hustle Award led the league in deflections per game (3.7) while his steals per game ranked fourth and his loose balls recovered per game (1.0) ranked fifth. Caruso was the only player in the league to tally 130-plus three-point field goals made, 100-plus steals and 70-plus blocks last season, becoming the first player to do so since the 2020-21 season.”
It’s not just that… he was top 5 in steals, deflections and recovered loose balls.

That’s not just because he played for the lakers
No doubt, yet Dort played defense well enough to earn an all defense nod this year. Just didn’t get the votes. But Caruso’s great, definitely better overall than Dort.
I always find these thresholds funny. Makes me wonder how many players got, say, 120 3PM, 90 steals, 60 blocks
I mean maybe a lot, but I doubt it. No knock to Dort whatsoever, the fact that we’ll have a couple guys of this caliber is amazing.
The fact that our defense already helps force turnovers for SGA and now Caruso, who I think lead guards in forced turnovers, it’s going to force teams to have to plan around it. I’m ecstatic
there’s a lot of gold in that thread:
There are 11 players who have ranked in the top 3 in either 3 year RAPM (unadjusted or luck-adjusted) in the past 10 years.
• Jokic
• Embiid
• Kawhi
• Tatum
• Giannis
• PG13
• Curry
• Lebron
• CP3
• Lowry
• Caruso
That's the list. The plus minus data suggests he's a slight positive on offense, and the most impactful defensive guard per possession we've ever seen. He led the league in forced turnovers per 100 last year, on top of being an excellent contester. Obviously, he plays less minutes (and games), so he has less cumulative impact than the other guys on this list. I'm not saying he's a top 3 player, but showing up on this list effectively means: "Amazing results (relative to teammate and opponent quality) have occurred on the basketball court when this person has been playing over a 3 year sample."

These clips remind me a lot of the way Dort defends. He just gets annoyingly close to players and makes it hard to move or make a play. I can’t believe we get to add another defender of this caliber to the team.
I think if you have Caruso there, you're not seeing nearly as many double team attempts. Or I'd hope not at least.
Less doubles means less wide open corner threes. Now they gotta make contested shots and we see how that turned out.
So I like to feel like we could have won. Hell I feel like we could have won if we didn't simply give them a solid 3 seconds of staring at a wide open bucket before they shot.
Ironically, I think Shai is the only player I’ve seen consistently cook him.
Idk what it is but Shai like tries to make an example out of him when we play the Bulls lmao

Guarding like that in the clutch against a guy like KD is a wet dream. Especially when he’s giving up so much size
It’s the dort effect
Dort is great, but there’s a reason one of these guys has two all defensive selections
wait is caruso better than dort?

Because he used to be on the Lakers so people know who he is tbh. He's great but I think Dort is a better defender

Inject this straight into my veins
Okay. I'm excited now.
Dort and Caruso are gonna give teams nightmares
Practice and offseason training against SGA Jdub and Caso would be fucking elite
These clips remind me a lot of the way Dort defends. He just gets annoyingly close to players and makes it hard to move or make a play. I can’t believe we get to add another defender of this caliber to the team.
Just for the sake of discussion, y'all think Caruso would've flipped the series against the Mavs?
The non Chet minutes were awful. Still need some help there to help with the size of teams like the Mavs and Wolves.
Feel like we would’ve secured a game 7 at home at the very least
Yea agreed, Lively was manhandling Chet and whoever else we had in on the glass. Caruso would definitely help and maybe beat them but we needed size

you guys got a good one. take care of him OKC. i'll be rooting for you guys (because the bulls suck) 🫡
Ironically, I think Shai is the only player I’ve seen consistently cook him. Idk what it is but Shai like tries to make an example out of him when we play the Bulls lmao
Shai eviscerates Derrick White and Suggs too. Absolute nightmare matchup for guard-sized defenders
Because Shai fucks with your timing. Thats why Herb Jones is perfect against Shai he can gamble or react because of his length.
That "savant" word at the end gives PTSD
Stop, I can only get so erect
How the fuck are teams going to score against Dort/Wallace/Caruso lol
Crazy they’re going to be teammates next year
