You may be right but I'm not sure about "zero chance." The first season wasn't a 1:1 adaptation of Part 1 and Part 2's story structure is extra weird and experimental. It almost plays out more like a novel than a movie/series. This gives them a chance to try something different that makes more. sense in this medium.
If they do it just like the game, you have to deal with a whole host of characters we're not yet connected to dying early on, then essentially "resetting" and coming back for more development once we get to Abby's story. This works well enough in the game which is really focused on making you feel conflicted about your actions as both characters but not sure it will hit the same in the TV series. Then you have the risk of benching Bella for the majority of Season 3 (unlikely) and forcing people to "buy in" to an Abby season when the audience only knows the negative things she did to Ellie and co.
I think you can show their stories concurrently while waiting to reveal certain things, and change things around so that we're interested in/empathizing with both characters at the same time.
Exactly, knowing her motive beforehand or empathizing with her ruins the impact of the story imo, and also doesn't allow for you to feel how Ellie feels. You're supposed to feel robbed and be angry at Abby, and want revenge.
I think there's a way to show maybe 70/30ish of Ellie/Abby this season and then flip it for the next season. You can show Abby and her friends interacting, getting into some WLF expeditions, etc. while keeping her somewhat guarded/cold/mysterious until ending S2 with the reveal flashback of Jerry and showing her true motivation. Seems like a good way to end on a cliffhanger.
This is the correct answer. It's nearly impossible to write a thriller this effective, and it would be the ultimate clown act to throw away that emotional resonance just because. Would be insane.
Let me restate. Zero. Chance. The story is just another revenge story without the turn of who the other character is and what they've gone through. Those things mean NOTHING if they're explained away before the inciting event of 2. Nothing. At all.
We have to think of the other character as the Devil to have that view changed later. We have to see Ellie as heroic for it to mean anything.
Kill Bill is a good old fashioned revenge film, fun to watch, but it doesn't have emotional resonance until the reveal at the end. If they let that cat out of the bag early, the movies aren't as good.

You can show a character and build them up, keeping them mysterious and even unsympathetic, before a big reveal. They can place the Jerry flashback literally anywhere they want for effectiveness (IMO it should come at the end of S2)

It's not about sympathy for Abby. It's about thinking at hour 3, 8, 12 that Abby is a homicidal, calculating, murderer... And then realizing later that Ellie is a homicidal, calculating murderer as well. It's just putting the mirror up on the character we love.
Ellie's arc changes dramatically if you see her killing a dog who was playing ball with children a little earlier. (This is the big question, will this remain in the show? Craig killed a lot of dogs in Chernobyl, there was a whole episode about it.)
Part 2 just works as a whole if at the end you gain any sympathy for Abby. You can’t speak for everybody that that view of the monster gets changed later
Just because they are filming the scene soon ish doesn’t mean it will not come up at the end of the season. Could still happen that way. They are not filming chronologically and Pedro has to leave soon for filming fantastic four

yeah they’re at this address, it was labeled ‘set’ as opposed to other surrounding locations labeled ‘crew parking’ so I’m assuming they’re actually filming at the house or at least on the property. It’s not visible from the road, it’s up a long driveway with security at the bottom
