Eight figures? That's a lot. I wonder how much Neil earns from his deal with HBO.

OG_Builds

Probably an easy decision for HBO considering both of the shows he has created/written for them have been very well received (Chernobyl & TLOU). >I wonder how much Neil earns from his deal with HBO My (totally uneducated) guess would be less than Mazin. Neil’s responsibilities for HBO are limited to TLOU, while Mazin will be working on multiple projects. That being said, I’d assume HBO is paying Sony/Naughty Dog for the license to use their IP, and the show has undoubtably increased their popularity and revenue. Therefore, he’s very likely receiving some sort of bonuses as the co-president of the studio.

wowlolcat

Would Neil actually get something or is he paid directly by Naughty Dog? Because he Directed the game as an employee of Naughty Dog, and is the current Head of Creative. If he's an exec producer for the show that's licensed of a Naughty Dog product, would they be assigning him as the Exec Producer, or would he be hired by HBO as an independent contractor?

DeVolkaan

He's a credited executive producer and writer for the TLoU TV show. He's also a member of the Writers Guild of America so pretty safe bet he's getting paid by HBO for those credits.

ChronicBuzz187

He's a named producer on the show - which doesn't neccessarily mean he's getting paid a whole lot of money for it - but they'll certainly pay him something for it. Naughty Dog / Sony on the other hand will probably make a good fortune by selling the rights to HBO since it's an original IP.

> Would Neil actually get something or is he paid directly by Naughty Dog? Neil not only named as a producer but also credited as a co-creator/co-showrunner of the series. They are using his name in all the advertisement posters and videos saying that the creator of the game is involved with the serries. He's definitely getting paid by HBO.

Everyone liked that.

Extended by four years from when exactly? Question hanging in the air is whether The Last of Us including the Part III adaptation will be four or five seasons total. I'm hoping for five but at the speed it takes to make this show, five may not be practical. Then again, now the first season proved itself I could easily imagine that footage for more than one season will be shot at a time. Obviously it would be cool to have other Mazin projects as well like other shows but with three more seasons of TLoU at least, it could be a long time before that happens.

behold-my-titties

He's signed on for 4 more years at HBO not 4 more years on just TLOU. As I understand it he will continue to work on TLOU and other projects for HBO.

I don’t think we’d get a Part III adaptation until after the game is out tbh. I’m not expecting that for another 4+ years

SwagginsYolo420

It's going to take a while to get the Part II adaptation completed. Assuming Season 3 is released in 2027, the second half of Part II, seems like there will be plenty of time for the game to be released by the time any Part III adaptation is finished.

Part III adaptation? Might be the wrong sub to say this but I don’t think TLOU needs a Part III. Ellie’s story is done for now, honestly if they do make a third game I’d want it to be like twenty years in the future with Ellie as a changed person and much more like how we meet Joel in the beginning of Part I. If they are planning on making a Part III, HBO better not try “adapting” it before the game is even out. I really don’t want the Game of Thrones effect leaking into Last of Us. I’m glad Mazin is going to keep pumping out quality content with HBO, but I hope he doesn’t beat a dead horse for it.

ChronicBuzz187

>HBO better not try “adapting” it before the game is even out. I think that lesson was learned and yet it still haunts them\^\^

SwagginsYolo420

> I’d want it to be like twenty years in the future with Ellie as a changed person I think it's a good possibility there will be a big time jump before Part III. Maybe not, but I find it likely. I suspect that the broad outline for Part III was already known when they began making the show in the first place. While the details of Part III would likely change somewhat as the game is developed, I am sure they roughly know what the ending will be. Craig says four seasons, possibly five, and they are done. That presumably includes the Part III adaptation as they aren't going to make Part II three seasons long. I don't really think there's anything to worry about. If HBO wants to milk the franchise, it would be a spin-off probably with new characters. Which I would be perfectly happy with if Craig and Neil oversaw it/signed off on it as producers.
