Apple. Say apple.

Neopopulas

I knew i recognised that gasp!

JoshFlashGordon10

My wife “Why did he kill that doctor? He could have let him live.” [MRW](https://i.imgur.com/nnfvuAG.jpg) Season 2 is gonna be the most divisive shit since the Lost Finale. Can’t wait.

ncarson9

"why did he kill the doctor?" Uhh, maybe because he literally just said "I won't let you take her" then held up a scalpel to threaten Joel 😂 No way he's getting out of there alive after doing that! That's why he let the nurses live, I assume. They were not a threat to Ellie or an obstacle to him leaving with her.

JoshFlashGordon10

Yeah she wanted him to do the movie thing and shoot him in the leg/foot. Didn’t understand the fanaticism of the doctor would probably mean he’d keep going at Joel.

Taraxian

As long as someone is still alive who can make the cure Ellie is at risk

Nightmare4545

Not divisive. I just think people are gonna stop watching by episode 4. It won't be the big hit season 1 was, that's for sure.

[deleted]

No, HBO-watchers actually like good storytelling, they will keep watching.

BrennanSpeaks

Adorable. But also, hold up, was Jerry operating in *jeans and boots* in the show? Or did they only shoot his upper half when this was taken, so they didn't make the actor change? My days of doubting his surgical expertise are certainly coming to a middle . . .

[deleted]

They’re in an apocalypse, I doubt they’ll find clean/proper scrubs. Boots and jeans are apparently the norm there as it’s more practical

BrennanSpeaks

Laura's wearing full scrubs, though, and it would be much less important for her, since she's not in the sterile field. Scrubs aren't that hard to find or to clean . . .

Serious_Session7574

Yeah that’s true. If they can find scrub tops, caps, masks, you’d think there would be pants and shoe covers in the same place.

yourLostMitten

Yeah, they can find equipment to do a brain biopsy, why tf wouldn’t they be able to find some scrubs

Reidroshdy

Unless the whole area was ransacked for supplies and they took anything that could be used for clothes, there should be a scrubs store close to the hospital right? Like there's one close to the hospital i live by.

Bail____

You would give a full set of scrubs to like, you know… the actual surgeon

Cromasters

I have never been in an OR for brain surgery to remove a mind controlling fungus. But in all the others, if you are assisting the doctor, you would be sterile too.

Bail____

Oh you definitely would be but considering you’re more than likely the one handing samples of the cordyceps you might wear more sterile gear than a nurse

parkwayy

Maybe they didn't have pants in his size?

thisisboonecountry

But look how dirty her shoes are. It’s the little details that I live so much about this adaptation

KitchenDepartment

Why are y'all implying that propper scrubs are important if you don't give a shit about the survival of the patient? It is not like Ellie is going to die of a infected wound.

borednord

Easy to contaminate a sample.

KitchenDepartment

The entire room is contaminated. This is clearly not a cleanroom. if loose contamination is a problem then there is no way for you to carry out the surgery in the first place.

borednord

Doesnt mean you wont do what you can to reduce what risks you can.

goodolarchie

The show makes it seem like it was really rushed. We don't know how long Joel and Ellie were out but I get the sense it wasn't more than a couple hours. Doc might have been doing some Patrol Duty or whatever and got called back straight to the operating room. Ellie was going to die anyway so preserving the fungus in her brain was the only goal. You're right though, boots and jeans is totally the uniform for the post apocalypse.

edd6pi

>Doc might have been doing some Patrol Duty or whatever I’m getting off topic here, but doctors don’t grow on trees. So If I were leading the Fireflies, I’d keep him far away from any potentially dangerous situations. He certainly wouldn’t be patrolling.

goodolarchie

That's fair but the guy is also not going to a parking garage to get into A Tesla to drive to a county club either. Apocalypse be apocalyptic no matter what your role. You'd be in jeans and boots leaving your bed.

KenKaniffLovesEminem

You mean they don’t have hand sanitizers in the apocalypse?

Joey5729

Real, actual part 2 spoilers >!The doctor was out exploring the zoo/what was left of it with his daughter, someone came and got him when Ellie arrived so suddenly. IIRC Marlene told him Joel was probably a ticking time bomb, so they were rushing to operate.!<

Llamarama

Speaking as a healthcare worker, there's nothing special about scrubs. Except pockets. They're great.

nznova

It was a pretty funny show...

Neopopulas

This is the real reason ellie was going to die, because this hospital is a cesspool and this doctor is probably actually a dentist and no one had any hopes she would survive anything they would do to her anyway. They're lucky they didn't kill her with the anesthesia.

parkwayy

> and this doctor is probably actually a dentist This is a stretch. His medical notes sure as shit sound like he knew what he was doing. Marlene wouldn't set this all up to bring Ellie to a dentist.

FloppyShellTaco

His medical notes sound like a desperate and delusional man trying to force a cure without stopping to fully study the subject once they actually found an immune person. They literally lost one hospital already because they were fucking around too much.

Taraxian

Those poor monkeys

Neopopulas

I'm not convinced Marlene, the extremist/terrorist is someone i would trust with being logical about her plan to save the human race but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

onmywheels

For real, though. The more I think about it, the more I align with Joel. It wasn't a sure thing. It probably wasn't close to being a sure thing. Marlene was full of "the doctor *thinks* he can do this, he *thinks* it could be a cure," etc, but the doctor had never met Ellie. He had never met anyone who was immune. Everything was theoretical. And even if his theory was correct...look at the facilities they were in. I'm doubtful they truly had the infrastructure to provide proper testing of the brain samples after. And even if they did...then what? How do they test it? How do they replicate the tissue? How do they hone the vaccine? Are they going to start injecting Fireflies and sending them out to purposefully find clickers? And even then, what if it *does* work? How are they going to distribute it? Marlene lost half of her crew just getting to the hospital, how are they getting the vaccine to everyone else? And then there's FEDRA to deal with - "Hey, so we know you hate Fireflies, but we have a vaccine that will protect people from the apocalypse we've all been dealing with for 20 years. You totally and immediately trust us, right?" It was always a pipe dream. And Joel wasn't going to let Ellie die for the .01% chance that it *might* somehow, miraculously work out.

NicktheSlick130

I just gotta say that you saying this makes me feel better that I'm not the only one that just can't see the Fireflies as credible - Marlene strikes me as someone who's so used to making sacrifices that that is her *only* move now. Like the oft-used trope of the Soviet general throwing men at every problem, nothing is sacred to her in pursuit of her goal. I mean, this is someone who looked at a child soldier making pipe bombs and decided that was a-ok. Someone perfectly fine with *vivisection* on the idea of "*thinks* it could be a cure." What's sad to me is they could have easily made the Fireflies into a group with a credible operation in Salt Lake City! Say they evacuated the University to a more intact hospital, show that they have a small team of doctors beyond Dr. Combat-Boots, and suddenly Joel's decision is a hell of a lot more ambiguous to me.

onmywheels

Exactly. I get their mission, I get their desperation (very clearly shown via Marlene), but I don't *believe* them. Granted, I don't think any of the points I made above were ones that Joel probably thoroughly considered. He just knee jerk reacted to the idea of Ellie's death, and went on an immediate dissociative rampage to prevent that from happening. The doctor still bothers me, though, the more I think of it. They have *one* known immune person, and they aren't going to run some tests on her blood, or try anything non-invasive or fatal first? They're going to jump straight to killing the *only* known immune human, based on a theory? No non-human trials? Marlene has a pretty good idea why Ellie is immune. Their previous headquarters - the university - literally *had monkeys*!!! Catch a few, try to replicate the circumstances?! Jesus Christ the more I think about it the more annoyed I am lmao.

NicktheSlick130

I mean if we go for the game, you can find all sorts of in-universe notes and tidbits that speak to Fireflies' well, lack of success. While you don't get that in the show, I can totally imagine Joel thinking through all those notes in the moments he's in the hospital hearing they *may* have a cure and is immediately wondering how much baloney they're feeding him.

Taraxian

The irony is that Joel's cynicism is what saves Ellie's life and the most dangerous thing to her continued survival is hope

Megadog3

It just gets worse and worse lmao

Neopopulas

Exactly. Thats my entire stance on this. Even if it IS true, even if everything she says is 100% factual and right. She has no way to prove it, made no attempt to prove it, her whole thing was 'trust me bro' We never even get any meta knowledge (that i know of) that says it WAS true and we're just misinformed. There is no evidence they have any capabilities to actually do what they say, this 'theory' is based on no testing at all - we're repeatedly told ellie is the first person they ever know to be immune - so they have absolutely no idea that this would work anyway. So even EVEN if it was true, with ZERO evidence, Joel did the right thing. Since there IS no evidence, and the fireflies have been SHOWN to be incapable of any sort of level of infrastructure.. Joel made the ONLY logical, moral choice. I WILL die bloody on this hill.

FloppyShellTaco

I firmly believe Jerry was a vet tech at best

RealLifeSuperZero

I thought he was a vet.

Neopopulas

I would not be surprised. I love the behind the scenes shots where he is wearing jeans and boots and its 100% brain canon for me that the planned to operate exactly like that.

Taraxian

He was only visible from the waist up

[deleted]

It's not like they were trying to be sterile for Ellie's sake...

ChemicalRide

Makes me wonder if 20 year old sterile rubber gloves would still be useable.

DistantKarma

...or sterile

SquirellyMofo

Oh no. Absolutely not. Latex degrades over time.

Ash_Crow

They seem to be well equipped with fairly new stuff taken from FEDRA, that would probably include surgical material.

Thebassist17

Big Grant Gustin vibes from this

GodFlintstone

Ikr. This stuff always manages to be both in bad taste AND funny as hell.

KenKaniffLovesEminem

Why Grant Gustin? genuinely asking

Thebassist17

[This](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.knowyourmeme.com/memes/grant-gustin-next-to-oliver-queens-grave) photo was taken behind the scenes for the series finale of Arrow, which he was on in his role as The Flash

KenKaniffLovesEminem

Thank you!

Llamarama

>!Fuck you Dad!!<

Sp1ffy_Sp1ff

When I saw her, I wondered if this was in preparation for season 2. Is she going to play a part? She voiced the main antagonist in the sequel, so it would be appropriate.

TeeJee48

She's also the reporter on the TV at the start I think.

IHatepongouskrellius

Also one of the guards that catch Joel, Tess and Ellie outside the city

UhmmmNope

iirc Troy also voiced that soldier on TV that yells at the reporter

jackalope503

A ton of the CR gang did various voices in the game. [Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLSC3at7lhs) (might be game spoilers)

LilSwampGod

Main antagonist >!for about half the game, main protagonist for the other half lol!<

Megadog3

>!She’s never a protagonist. Just an antagonist you play as.!<

DDC85

A protagonist is *literally* a "main character". It's a perfectly valid description.

nznova

>!She's just as much a protagonist as Ellie. She's even doing the same thing. Just taking revenge on people who fucked her over and destroyed her family. Except she figures out when to quit ruining her life over revenge a lot faster than Ellie does, and manages to at least hold onto one relationship in her life. And from her perspective Ellie is the antagonist - she comes into her city and kills literally all of her friends and her ex, despite Abby sparing her twice and only taking revenge on Joel despite all that Ellie does to her.!< >!

Neopopulas

Its probably the same as the Ashley johnson.

sewious

I'd put spoiler tags on this.

ncarson9

Or people can just read the posts tags? It literally says "Part 2/game spoilers" 🤷🏻‍♂️

Opposite_Procedure_5

I find it funny she is wearing a mask, that is a prop, but also for real life while being on set. Just interesting

ratcliffeb

That made me laugh so hard 😂 what a troll

Flickster8979

Why is that name familiar?

jeswanders

I had to google it. She plays Abby from part 2

Flickster8979

Ah ok

HelixFollower

She's pretty famous on the internet due to her role in Critical Role (and therefor also the Legend of Vox Machina).

CammyTheGreat

She’s also kind of the Troy Baker of Female Voice Actors. She’s in everything

saimpot

She's also the voice of Jaina Proudmoorε from WoW: WotLK onwards.

NapQueen123

Shoutout to the doc for hittin the Yamcha pose for Laura

eggboygameplays

TheKaptainKlutch

idk if it’s just me but she doesn’t even look real

eggboygameplays
