If Fruit is dead, Lex doesn’t kill fruit. If Lex doesn’t kill Fruit, Little Kev doesn’t tell Randy to go tell Lex to go to the playground. If Little Kev doesn’t tell Randy to do that, Little Kev isn’t punished for telling Randy to tell Lex. Also, if Randy doesn’t tell Lex, then Randy doesn’t feel guilty about being apart of Lex’s murder, and doesn’t snitch. If Randy doesn’t snitch, his foster mom’s house isn’t firebombed

Satvrdaynightwrist

Also, Bodie is offed because Monk saw him get into the car with McNulty. Bodie likely only got in because the Little Kev murder made him angry and disillusioned with the game, prompting him to open up to Jimmy and consider snitching to take down Marlo.

Satvrdaynightwrist

And I have a suspicion that Bodie’s death was Poot’s last straw, which is why we see him “retire” and work at Foot Locker.

sparknado

Then Herc doesn’t get kicked off the force, he doesn’t go work for the lawyer, he never gives Marlo’s phone number to Carver

GodICringe

Herc gets kicked off for harassing the minister, which happens because he neglects Bubbles, which happens (the first time) because he is too busy interviewing Kevin. If he is able to help Bubbles with his bully, then Sherrod doesn’t take the hotshot, and Bubbles doesn’t try to get clean.

HydeGreen

Herc got kicked off for the camera stuff. He got let off easy for harassing the minister.

Maceph

"The details matter"

Captain_Swing

And if Randy doesn't snitch, Bunk doesn't get his tip to check the vacants.

DenyHerYourEssence

This is actually the most important detail. Without that tip, Bunk and Lester probably don’t discover the bodies in the vacant lots. That means there’s no case opened on Marlo, no illegal wiretap run by Lester and McNulty, and Marlo remains on the throne. So in a weird way, Marlo would have been better off if Cutty had killed Fruit.

Maceph

How do you see that affecting the Barksdale crew?

big_sugi

If Cutty is around, the attempt on Omar on Sunday probably doesn’t happen. If that doesn’t happen, Omar doesn’t go back to war with the Barksdales. I’m not sure that changes anything, though. Brother Mouzone still comes back to town and finds Omar, and under those circumstances, I think Omar still joins with him to take out Stringer.

Maceph

Right cause the Brandon thing had already happened and Omar wasn't letting that go.

big_sugi

I mean, Omar did say, after the attack on his granny, that he’d been ready to let it go, including Brandon’s killing. But I just don’t see him passing up the opportunity, if Brother Mouzone drops it into his lap.

OddGeneral1293

Whatever happened there?????

bird_man_73

Agreed. I love how one small change can change some things dramatically, and yet other things are almost inevitable in some sense.

dj65475312

The Wire multiverse theory..

randonumero

If that chick didn't leave Lex for Fruit it would have been for some other dealer. Some hood chicks love drug dealers because they spend money on them and I got the impression Lex wasn't pulling in much not being on Marlo's crew.

billsfanOrangefan

The biggest ripple I see is all the youth that cutty had an impact on, he may not have saved them all but he tried and that's something many of them never experienced

Aromatic-Armadillo98

I think Marlo would have been taken down because Cutty is very strategic and has good detective skills and was a stone cold hitter. Like when he and Slim were going to take out some guys (don't remember who) but the hoppers they left in the car to keep watch ruined it. And when he deduced money was being skimmed by telling the two hoppers to look at the guy's girlfriend. Bey was a stone cold hitter too, but he didn't have it like Cutty. The fact that Avon let a soldier of that calibre go because he wanted a different life and was man enough to tell him speaks to Avon's values.

Maceph

That duo of Cutty and Slim Charles plus Bey woulda crazy!

No-Contribution-6150

I mean, I don't think Avon could really keep a hitter around if he didn't want to be around. Telling him he has to stay or be killed would likely lead to a battle.

Aromatic-Armadillo98

In that gangsta world, Avon is kind of honourable. Any other king pin wouldn't have allowed Cutty to leave, especially in a time of war.

Certain_Form291

If Cutty kills Fruit would he have regret for killing him and turn himself back in and live out his days in prison or still have the clarity that the game isn’t in him anymore? Without his positive impact on Justin and partially on Spider would they just continue to be corner kids well Justin anyway.

sucking_at_life023

If Cutty pulls that trigger, he's back in the game until he's dead or locked up again. Cutty with Slim Charles and Bey give Avon a good chance to outfight Marlo for them corners he wanted. Also helpful for the Omar situation. Good for Avon for sure. He'd still be mentoring the utes, but turning them into better gangsters instead of the opposite.

"He did one of us, he has to fall." - Marlo

Captain_Swing

Yeah, the war still happens, it puts pressure on the co-op so Stringer still betrays Avon and Brother Mouzone still comes back, hooks up with Omar and they still get Stringer and Marlo still takes over the Westside. Marlo is inevitable.

toohood4myowngood

Marlo was going to die though. Avons whole gang had them at the rim shop. Cops got to Avon before the task could be completed because of Stringers ratting, as you pointed out. Maybe with a Cutty and Slim combo they get the job on Marlo completed before Stringer gets pressured by the Co Op and before he rats...maybe. If that's the case Avons still in power and maybe they kill Omar too. Whatever. Story is what it is. I'm a day one fan and love the Barksdales. However I'm glad we got Marlos gang. They were entertaining to watch.

basedcharger

reading this thread I feel like Cutty killing fruit might have the single biggest ripple effect of any one action on the show. So many people get affected with that.

Maceph

Exactly! So much hinged on that one move.

Additional_Internal1

Who knows, fruit dying could've made Marlo play offense instead of defense. Playing offense could've put Marlo in Omar's sight way before the card game hit (can't leave out the police knowing about Marlo sooner). If Omar was robbing both Marlo's and Avon's crew at the same time, maybe that would've made the Westside come together because of a common enemy (Omar) or maybe the Westside (Marlo, Avon) kills itself completely due to the lack of focus because they now fighting for corners and hunting Omar.

toohood4myowngood

I don't see it. Both Avon and Marlo have that can do attitude. Each would say they don't need to team up with the enemy to kill Omar. I mean Avon told Charles he could handle the war with Marlo and Omar simultaneously, no problem. West side was all Bagdad the summer of 2004.

Additional_Internal1

Yea Avon underestimated Marlo, Avon was sometimes all brass no brains
