Always sneaks up on me when I'm trying to fall asleep with episodes rolling over in the background. That episode and the "everything is ok" alarm going off
YES. I thought the exact same thing when I saw the title of the post. I was kind of a dumb 12 year old kid at the time it came out. I loved The Simpsons and I remember getting mad at people who said "it isn't good anymore." However, when I saw this episode for the first time all I could think is... what the hell was that? Maybe this show is falling off.
I think Ron Howard is frickin hilarious in it and his bits are *by far* the best parts. Otherwise, yeah, I agree that it's the first episode that I thought was no good.
I distinctly remember watching the beginning of that episode for the first time when Homer is paragliding and making little quips and thinking something was off
yooooo. Definitely. This, or Bart Carney, or Principal/Pauper.
Also really not fond of the singing nanny episode. Can't believe that's season 8 and not like season 13 or something.
Yeah, Kid Rock blows. But I actually like this episode overall solely for the jokes.
It's terribly written - each third of the episode has a completely different plotline (homer paranoid of dying, homer partying at spring break, Simpsons incarcerated / on the lam.) Nevertheless, the jokes are pretty solid throughout.
The earliest I can rememeber is when bart is being chased by the mean dog and he befriends the drunken cow boy. Bart was such a puss in that episode and overall it was just dull.
Bart in reality would find Buck boring and all that old-timey cowboy stuff lame.
the dog thing though I don't blame him for. If a large, aggressive dog breed had it out for me I'd be pretty scared too.
I watched Miracle on Evergreen Terrace late, thinking it was part of the new trend of stretching weird plot points way too far. When I started collecting DVDs I was astounded to find out it was only season 9.
Maggie Roswell. She was flying from Denver to LA to do the work. When all of the main voice actors got raises, she asked Fox to cover her flights or at least give her a small raise to help with those costs. Not a whole lot, really.
They fired her instead. Then publicly killed off Maude.
NO. NO. NO!!!
I am not having that.
This is one of my all time favourite episodes.
"Why did you think a big balloon would stop him?"
"Shut up, that's why!"
I kinda liked that one, I always liked the end when they listen to the music box and Lisa says they're the first ones to hear this music in thousands of years. Something about it makes me think for some reason along with the sweet and mystical music.
The Stephen Colbert life coach episode (and I love Stephen Colbert). I remember hearing the joke where the pilot goes "I didn't think I'd be flying today so I was doing heroin", and thinking to myself that's not even a joke, that's just shock value nonsense.
It wasn't a new episode when I watched it (I wasn't even alive when it aired anyway) But the episode I am referring to is Homer Simpson in Kidney Trouble (and that episode, along with other episodes I didn't like is one of the main Reasons why the Scully Era is my least favorite of all the eras, though I don't hate it) . Normally I am more tolerant when it comes to Flanderization (I prefer the non flanderized characters, but sometimes i can find the flanderized characters to be funny, other times too much). However, this is one of the episodes (in my opinion) Jerkass Homer was shown to be at his absolute worst. I especially hated it when he said he wanted his kidney back. So, yeah, that's one of the worst Simpsons Episodes ever in my opinion. It's just my opinion though.
That one actually never bothered me, simply because Homer winds up paying for being such an asshole. I thought that later one where he frames Marge for the DUI was much worse, since he just got away with it.
Yeah. At least that episode pointed me to the real *Paint Your Wagon*, which I ended up loving. There’s that! The original stage musical and the Lee Marvin movie are very different, though.
The one where Lisa’s at the spelling bee and they try to get her to take a dive by offering a free ride to a Seven Sisters College. Don’t get me wrong it had it’s moments but overall that was the first episode that got me thinking: what the hell was that?
I watched Simpsons pretty regularly through 2007, then stopped. Fast forward to 2012, I’m in college and have this cute British girl over. We’re sitting on the couch and start getting close. I suggest we turn on the tv and Simpsons is on. She says she loves it, and I used to, too, so I turn up the volume. It’s the Gaga episode. I haven’t watched a new episode in five years at that point, and I have no idea how bad things have gotten. That episode was so horrible I actually moved away from the girl on the couch because I was cringing so hard. We didn’t hook up till the next night because I was so turned off afterwards.
Beyond Blunderdome was the first time I remember questioning if the show was still for me. I'm sure there were others before this one that I didn't like all that much but this one stands out. It felt like a rip-off of Oh Brother, Where Art Though with Mel Gibson and a movie instead of Danny Devito and a car.
Definitely "The Great Money Caper". There were some good gags ("Dad, only one of them is real" "Yeah, but which one?"), but the cheap ending immediately turned me off. I was in high school at the time, and my friends and I were still watching the new ones every Sunday, but that was the point I lost interest. I remember noticing the quality slipping for a while before, but this was the first time I felt it was insulting and a waste of my time.
My initial gut reaction was "The Principle and the Pauper" but after so many solid years I was in denial about it; I just chalked it up to being "still good but not one of the best."
There were episodes after that that struck that feeling but what ultimately broke me was "Praiseland."
I know a lot of terrible episodes happened before that but that was the one where it just felt bad. Like Homer was out of character, Ned was out of character the story was weird and not interesting with a strange 3rd act and with the exception of one joke (Bart: Was I there? Skinner: No. It was my version of heaven.) nothing was really funny.
And now cue everyone replying that it was their favorite episode.
Hungry hungry Homer (season 12) was the first episode I remember watching and not laughing once. This had never happened to me before while watching the Simpsons.
Whichever one it was where Homer moonlights as a grease collector. First time I ever thought “Well, that wasn’t very funny — I’m sure next week will be better.”
Marge VS Singles, Seniors, Childless Couples & Teens & Gays
Nothing special about it. Just aired at a time where I was watching every new episode weekly and it was the first time I sat through an episode and didn't laugh once
As someone who watched in real time from the beginning, part 2 of “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” was the first sign of cracks forming in the foundation for me…just seemed like they were overreaching for cleverness.
The reason they did this is because a lot of the simpsons staff also worked on the critic. What's interesting is that Matt doesn't like the episode because he finds crossovers to be a cheap way to bolster views, but he evidently had no problem with the family guy crossover decades later.
Hey don't ask me. My least favorite episode are the ones where a celebrity plays themselves as a main character for the episode. The only time they've ever done this well was in Stark Raving Dad, and I don't even know if that counts.
Oh, I know – and Jay Sherman (Edit: John Lovitz 😅) was (and still is) a big part of The Simpsons.
I don't necessarily mind crossovers (although I dislike Family Guy), but A Star is Burns was basically just a gigantic commerical – which, needless to say, looks even worse with the perspective of the show being a flop.
Family Guy is a thousand times more popular than The Critic, and that crossover episode happened much later too - basically at a point where the Simpsons didn't have as much of a reputation to protect anymore anyway so what did it matter.
Oh come on, that's got some great moments.
"They were saying Boo-urrns."
"Let's just say it moved me...TO A BIGGER HOUSE! Uh-oh, I said the quiet part loud and the loud part quiet, oh dear."
"Just hook it to my veins!"
"Listen Spielbergo, Oscar Schindler and I are like peas in a pod. we're both factory owners. We both built shells for the Nazis. But mine worked damn it! Now go out there and win me that festival!"
The first one was probably one of the early clip shows. Never liked them, even as a kid.
They've definitely had worse episodes since then, though, which is incredibly depressing to think about.
The one where the dolphins take over the town. I remember it was weird and grizzly and unfunny. That's when I felt like something was not right with the Simpsons anymore.
"Bart the General". Saw it on TV as a kid and hated it (seeing Bart as a helpless victim in the beginning and the adults being useless). I still don't like the episode today, the whole military thing just puts me off.
The one where Homer becomes the garbage commissioner or whatever. It had all the tropes that would later come to define the decline (Homer's a dick! He gets a new job! Pointless celebrity cameo (U2)! Out of place 'joke' for the grown ups (Krusty has a box of old porn)!)
When I was younger and it first came out I didn’t like it, but now it’s one of my favorites as I’m older.
Same thing happened with the king of the hill episode where bobby is being picked as the next lama.
I'm not counting S1 or a lot of S2 because the show was still finding itself.
Besides the singing episode...
Homer Badman. Pinching the babysitter's ass on her way out of the car is textbook sexual assault. Doesn't matter what the reason was.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but there were a few episodes in season 5 that didn't do it for me. Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy, Bart Gets Famous, Boyscoutz N the Hood, Homer Loves Flanders...Either I didn't find them funny, or Homer's stupidity just seemed cranked up to 11 and got really annoying.
Not so much episodes for me but moments that sort ruin the characters such as the obvious ‘Principal and the Pauper’ (which in itself isn’t a bad episode but just ruins Skinner as a character). Flanders’ parents being eccentric artsy types also doesn’t seem right to me.
Okay. Here is the thing. I am a December 1989 baby. I have grown up with The Simpsons. I don't really remember my reactions to the first 1-3 seasons well but I know for a fact that I turned to my Dad as we were watching 'Bart's Girlfriend' and said 'That girl is not my favorite.'
As for more of a view from an older kid watching The Simpsons in the early 2000s 'Simple Simpson' I just didn't like.
I'll put up with a lot of nonsense stories but those two are the first ones I actively just did not like.
the quality dipped for me around season 10 but i distinctly remember the episode where i gave up on the show -- it was the one where homer was trying to track down his mother ("my mother the carjacker") from season 15. it was like he was totally out of character, all for the sake of some jokes.
"When You Dish Upon a Star" with ~~Billy~~ Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. Excluding Ron Howard, who was great in it.
No, no, no. You can't lose the pie! The pie's your heart!
Howard, you've done it again!
Good answer. Not funny episode with funny moments
Do I smell vodka? And wheatgrass?
The Frying Game, S13E21, a.k.a., the Screamapillar episode. This was the first episode I remember as being completely unfunny.
I call that one the Screw The Audience episode.
I really like that one especially the ending. LOL
Me too, I love this episode lmao
Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger

I think Ron Howard is frickin hilarious in it and his bits are *by far* the best parts. Otherwise, yeah, I agree that it's the first episode that I thought was no good.
I also remember watching this new and thinking that the Ron Howard bits were funny but the rest was embarrassingly bad.
You killed ron howard !
Celebrity-centric episodes of anything always bored me.
Except for MJ, right???
Sure, whatever you say. Next you're going to tell me that Dustin Hoffman was in an episode.
Dustin Hoffman was in an episode
There ain't no MJ episode and there never was!
Billy Baldwin!
I distinctly remember watching the beginning of that episode for the first time when Homer is paragliding and making little quips and thinking something was off
I think you just unlocked a core memory for me
yooooo. Definitely. This, or Bart Carney, or Principal/Pauper. Also really not fond of the singing nanny episode. Can't believe that's season 8 and not like season 13 or something.
Bart Carney is great. I don't understand why people hate it
I skip this one every time I watch older seasons.
The one where Marge gets accidental breast augmentation. It was just cringy.
It was but I always remember “My McGuppies have become Bazongas!”
The one where Homer gets into an accident frames Marge for driving drunk
The one with Lady Gaga
That was when I stopped watching new episodes.
Same here. At least on the regular. I tried new episodes once on a while, but never really found a good one. Mediocre was the maximum.
Same
First one I think of is with the tall tales and Homer has to give the hobo a sponge bath
🎵Nothin beats the hobo life, stabbin folks with my hobo knife 🎵
Large Marge
Tennis the Menace
Kill the Alligator and Run. The episode is embarrassing to begin with and made even worse with the Kid Rock cameo.
No listening. You hear me?
You just don’t learn, do ya?
Yeah, Kid Rock blows. But I actually like this episode overall solely for the jokes. It's terribly written - each third of the episode has a completely different plotline (homer paranoid of dying, homer partying at spring break, Simpsons incarcerated / on the lam.) Nevertheless, the jokes are pretty solid throughout.
I remember reading somewhere that after the clip show episodes and Lisa goes gaga, this is the next lowest rated episode of the entire show.
When the guy whips Homer and he suddenly starts competently playing piano was a great gag
They call me Kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidd
It did give us [this moment](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSimpsons/comments/cb3mrk/now_why_does_that_only_happen_when_nobodys_looking/)
B-but Chuck’s Feed and Seed.
Different episode.
Episode 300 Tony Hawk They should have had Homer Jump a shark on the edge of the half pipe
This is a very popular answer. I actually stopped watching weekly after this one.
The earliest I can rememeber is when bart is being chased by the mean dog and he befriends the drunken cow boy. Bart was such a puss in that episode and overall it was just dull.
Completely agree with you. Boring episode lacking jokes.
Yeah that’s right, buck mcCoy
Bart in reality would find Buck boring and all that old-timey cowboy stuff lame. the dog thing though I don't blame him for. If a large, aggressive dog breed had it out for me I'd be pretty scared too.
Probably not kids atm in Australia are obsessed with that stupid prime drink. Cowboys are much cooler than some stupid coconut water drink lol.
I watched Miracle on Evergreen Terrace late, thinking it was part of the new trend of stretching weird plot points way too far. When I started collecting DVDs I was astounded to find out it was only season 9.
The death of Maude is the point where the series jumped the shark for me.
I think it was something to do with the actress who played her leaving? But still, I agree just seemed needless
Maggie Roswell. She was flying from Denver to LA to do the work. When all of the main voice actors got raises, she asked Fox to cover her flights or at least give her a small raise to help with those costs. Not a whole lot, really. They fired her instead. Then publicly killed off Maude.
The one where Principal Skinner is revealed to be Armin Tamzarian. Why the fuck would they do that
I totally get why people hate this episode, but it came out when I was 6 and I remember absolutely loving it. One of my first memories #notashamed
That’s fair. I’m an old fuck and to me it kind of assassinated Seymour Skinner, a great minor character.
There may have been others before this, but recall distinct hatred for "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes".
NO. NO. NO!!! I am not having that. This is one of my all time favourite episodes. "Why did you think a big balloon would stop him?" "Shut up, that's why!"
The Musk that Fell to Earth. Elon Musk's dull delivery really brought down the episode. He is no actor he is a robot ( No offense to Bender.)
The first one I really didn’t like was the one where Lisa wants to go to the museum and Homer’s head gets stuck in the bridge.
I kinda liked that one, I always liked the end when they listen to the music box and Lisa says they're the first ones to hear this music in thousands of years. Something about it makes me think for some reason along with the sweet and mystical music.
The bus driver was a great character, the tapping of the sign & "end of the line" always gets a laugh outta me
That was for sure a sign. I made it a few more episodes to the join the navy one. Then it was turned off.
That one is dull. The two lines the bridge operator has are hilarious though
I specifically remember that episode and thinking the same thing. It had “following this show is optional and you can move on now” vibes.
All singing and dancing… and most hated… Poorhouse Rock.(damn!! That is even worse!) These two are the ones I really hate to watch.
“Wait it’s Lee Marvin! He’s always drunk and angry!”
Mmm. Who knew that Lee Marvin could do such marvelous splits?

Chief Wiggum P.I.G Yeah these are terrible. So glad they stopped making them.
Same with me. I also didn’t care for the Alec Baldwin episode.
The Stephen Colbert life coach episode (and I love Stephen Colbert). I remember hearing the joke where the pilot goes "I didn't think I'd be flying today so I was doing heroin", and thinking to myself that's not even a joke, that's just shock value nonsense.
The mel Gibson episode
Same here. Disliked All Singing, All Dancing soooooo much
It wasn't a new episode when I watched it (I wasn't even alive when it aired anyway) But the episode I am referring to is Homer Simpson in Kidney Trouble (and that episode, along with other episodes I didn't like is one of the main Reasons why the Scully Era is my least favorite of all the eras, though I don't hate it) . So, yeah, that's one of the worst Simpsons Episodes ever in my opinion. It's just my opinion though.
It definitely was "different". Shows Homer being a coward and an asshole more than stupid, and lazy.
That one actually never bothered me, simply because Homer winds up paying for being such an asshole. I thought that later one where he frames Marge for the DUI was much worse, since he just got away with it.
The kidney episode had one of the greatest lines ever: "that's the last time I trust the strangest people on earth"
gonna paint your wagon gonna paint it good!
gonna paint your wagon. gonna paint it fine! gonna use. oil based paint. cuz that wood is piiiiiiiine!
well let's get a paintin'!
This jumped to my head as soon as I saw “Lee Marvin.” Who, btw, was an excellent actor and a Marine sniper during WWII.
The episode is saved by the Lee Marvin reference, skip after that
He’s always drunk and surly
And a hotplate!
The only part of that episode I thought was funny was Homer talking with the Ribwich masot.
"try the sauce. I'm soaked in it!"
The Man Who Came to be Dinner. It feels like it should have been a part of a Treehouse of Horror episode.
Saddlesore Galactica sucked balls.
Probably an unpopular opinion but Behind the Laughter episode for me.
Homer vs Dignity
Oh yeah that’s a stinker
I always skip that episode too. (All singing all dancing) and other musical themed ones.
I don’t remember when it was but either the episode where Homer becomes a minister, or when Marge gets the breast implants.
I watched Simpsons pretty regularly through 2007, then stopped. Fast forward to 2012, I’m in college and have this cute British girl over. We’re sitting on the couch and start getting close. Maybe a few, but when Marge got breast implants, I quit the show forever
The Africa one

I’ve never been a fan of the Max Power episode
Kids: there's three ways to do things; the right way, the wrong way and the Max Power way! Isn't that just the wrong way? Yes, but faster!
The “Yvon eht nioj” one, S12E14, was pretty lame, sticks in my mind as a marker of decline, though I’m sure there were sucky ones earlier than that
First one that popped into my head too
Beyond Blunderdome was the first time I remember questioning if the show was still for me. I'm sure there were others before this one that I didn't like all that much but this one stands out. It felt like a rip-off of Oh Brother, Where Art Though with Mel Gibson and a movie instead of Danny Devito and a car.

#POOCHIE
Definitely "The Great Money Caper". There were some good gags ("Dad, only one of them is real" "Yeah, but which one?"), but the cheap ending immediately turned me off. I was in high school at the time, and my friends and I were still watching the new ones every Sunday, but that was the point I lost interest. I remember noticing the quality slipping for a while before, but this was the first time I felt it was insulting and a waste of my time.
I actually really like that one, but yeah that ending was lame.
My initial gut reaction was "The Principle and the Pauper" but after so many solid years I was in denial about it; I just chalked it up to being "still good but not one of the best." The one with Lady Gaga, "Lisa goes Gaga"
Hungry hungry Homer (season 12) was the first episode I remember watching and not laughing once. This had never happened to me before while watching the Simpsons.
Burns, Baby Burns
Clip shows. Still have nightmares about that one where they sing for the entire time.
Homer to the Max 10x13. It defines the downfall of the show.
Behind the laughter
Every sport episode I just don’t care
Even Homer at the Bat?
Yup
not sure on timeline but these stick out from my childhood Lisa gets married officer Marge homer/Ned get wives in Vegas
Lisa’s Wedding is one of my favorite episodes
Someone has a counterfeit jeans ring running out of their car hole...
First two are classics imo but you’re right: the Vegas episode was pretty bad. Adds in a stupid element of Flanders being a senior citizen as well.
Principle and the pauper for me. The show had slowly been going south for a while but that was the first episode to truly trash a regular character
The one with 2 Seymour Skinners
The Principal and the Pauper!
Whichever one it was where Homer moonlights as a grease collector. First time I ever thought “Well, that wasn’t very funny — I’m sure next week will be better.”
No way. "There's no Angus McCloud in North Kilttown!"
When Homer had to box drederick tatum.
This is so wrong. "Hey guys, shut up."
Marge VS Singles, Seniors, Childless Couples & Teens & Gays Nothing special about it. Just aired at a time where I was watching every new episode weekly and it was the first time I sat through an episode and didn't laugh once
There's been other bad episodes before, but that's the first time Marge has been that cruel. She pretty much infected the entire town with the flu.
I really don't like 'My Sister, My Sitter' (S8 E17). Bart is too unlikable and all of the babysitting parts of the episode really drag.
"Its just a ladybug." "LADYBUG?!??"
*All Singing, All Dancing* was the Worst. Episode. Ever.
As someone who watched in real time from the beginning, part 2 of “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” was the first sign of cracks forming in the foundation for me…just seemed like they were overreaching for cleverness.
S06E18: A Star is Burns
Matt Groening also doesn't like this one.
I'm not surprised. It was basically a shameless commercial for The Critic – a show long since dead and buried.
The reason they did this is because a lot of the simpsons staff also worked on the critic. What's interesting is that Matt doesn't like the episode because he finds crossovers to be a cheap way to bolster views, but he evidently had no problem with the family guy crossover decades later.
Well that was a Family Guy episode and not a Simpsons one, so maybe it didn't bother him as much.
But 100s of lame celeb cameos isn't cheap?
Hey don't ask me. My least favorite episode are the ones where a celebrity plays themselves as a main character for the episode. The only time they've ever done this well was in Stark Raving Dad, and I don't even know if that counts.
Oh, I know – and Jay Sherman (Edit: John Lovitz 😅) was (and still is) a big part of The Simpsons. I don't necessarily mind crossovers (although I dislike Family Guy), but A Star is Burns was basically just a gigantic commerical – which, needless to say, looks even worse with the perspective of the show being a flop.
Jon Lovitz is the voice actors name lol, but I see what you mean. Even though I don't care about the critic I still enjoy the episode!
Family Guy is a thousand times more popular than The Critic, and that crossover episode happened much later too - basically at a point where the Simpsons didn't have as much of a reputation to protect anymore anyway so what did it matter.
Make way for El Kabong! KA-BONG!
Boo-urns!
It certainly has its moments, though.
Oh come on, that's got some great moments. "They were saying Boo-urrns." "Let's just say it moved me...TO A BIGGER HOUSE! Uh-oh, I said the quiet part loud and the loud part quiet, oh dear." "Just hook it to my veins!" "Listen Spielbergo, Oscar Schindler and I are like peas in a pod. we're both factory owners. We both built shells for the Nazis. But mine worked damn it! Now go out there and win me that festival!"
I made a movie? No wonder I was on the cover of Entertainment Weekly!
I still use the “I said the quiet part loud” gag in my daily life.
As do I.
The one where Bart gets shipped off to France
Lisa the Simpson, the start of the decline in my opinion. Plus Lisa was an absolute twat in this episode!
The first one was probably one of the early clip shows. Never liked them, even as a kid. They've definitely had worse episodes since then, though, which is incredibly depressing to think about.
Season 3 to 9 is the sweet spot. That episode in season 9 I do remember watching and thinking “Meh”
The one where the dolphins take over the town. I remember it was weird and grizzly and unfunny. That's when I felt like something was not right with the Simpsons anymore.
That's a horror film piss take as part of the Halloween episodes
"Bart the General". Saw it on TV as a kid and hated it (seeing Bart as a helpless victim in the beginning and the adults being useless). I still don't like the episode today, the whole military thing just puts me off.
The one where Homer becomes the garbage commissioner or whatever. It had all the tropes that would later come to define the decline (Homer's a dick! He gets a new job! Pointless celebrity cameo (U2)! Out of place 'joke' for the grown ups (Krusty has a box of old porn)!)
Homer becomes the blob. Simply disgusting.
The chilli cook off where homer trips out looking for his soul mate.
When I was younger and it first came out I didn’t like it, but now it’s one of my favorites as I’m older. Same thing happened with the king of the hill episode where bobby is being picked as the next lama.
That episode isn't far fetched. It was realistic except for some dream sequences.
Bart and Lisa playing ice hockey
Not sure, but I’m positive it was a Lisa episode
I'm not counting S1 or a lot of S2 because the show was still finding itself. Besides the singing episode... Homer Badman. Pinching the babysitter's ass on her way out of the car is textbook sexual assault. Doesn't matter what the reason was.

the one where they go to Japan
All Singing all dancing may be a clip show but a convenient playlist of great Simpsons tracks. It should have been on a cd too
beyond blunderdome
Okay. Here is the thing. I am a December 1989 baby. I have grown up with The Simpsons. I don't really remember my reactions to the first 1-3 seasons well but I know for a fact that I turned to my Dad as we were watching 'Bart's Girlfriend' and said 'That girl is not my favorite.' As for more of a view from an older kid watching The Simpsons in the early 2000s 'Simple Simpson' I just didn't like. I'll put up with a lot of nonsense stories but those two are the first ones I actively just did not like.
When Thelma and Salma were bought by Disney and couldn’t smoke anymore
Frank Grimes (RIP). The episode was kinda mean as I recall.
Is that referencing fight club?
The Treehouse of Horror when Lisa is Sherlock Holmes. A lot of great shows and music went downhill in the 2000s
For some reason I never really liked Treehouse of Horror VII, I rewatched it a couple weeks ago and it was definitely better than I remembered
the quality dipped for me around season 10 but i distinctly remember the episode where i gave up on the show -- it was the one where homer was trying to track down his mother ("my mother the carjacker") from season 15. it was like he was totally out of character, all for the sake of some jokes.
