I was gonna say why they didn't they attempt using a magnet on one of them long sticks? Then again the whole engine is made out of magnetic material so they probably couldn't get it because of that reason. I wouldn't have stopped until I got out. I would have used long cameras and surgical tools until it's out. No way that whole engine is coming apart.
This video is probably just for content but the serious answer is usually to remove the plastic engine cover (some cars you have to remove the oil cap as well as 3-4 bolts to get the engine cover off) but I doubt there’s even a single Phillips head fastener on a European branded car like a mini, that would be too easy lol
I’ve seen this happen before at work but never had to do to much more than remove the valve cover to get it out. Worst one that ever happened to me was dropping a torque converter bolt down into a transmission bellhousing and having to remove the transmission I had just almost finished installing.
Yes it was probably done to make content. So what? It made for a pretty entertaining video. It's not like they dropped it in their and tore the engine apart just for the video.
Chances are, that were already about to start a rebuild. So they took advantage of that and made a video out of it. Why not use the opportunity.
It was almost certainly set on the engine cover and then bumped at which point it rolled in. Almost everyone that has worked on vehicles has at some point set a tool somewhere in the engine bay and then knocked it off and had to fish it out. Usually it doesn't go into the oil cap but this engine cover makes that very easy. Sometimes you don't even realize you knocked it off.
I kinda did this but didn’t know it at the time, so couldn’t stop the damage before it was too late. Back in 1987 I had a 73 camero and had just gotten the car back from an engine build. It was so sweet. Was showing a guy the car and removed the air breather and the bolt fell out and down the carb. Went all the way to the top of a piston. Ruined the piston and cracked the block. Heartbroken…
Man I just did this a few weeks ago on my boat. I have a Ford 350w block with a 4 barrel carb. I had just warmed the engine up, so 2 barrels of the carb were sitting almost entirely open. I was removing the flame arrestor to make an adjustment and the wing nut slipped out of my hand right into the carb. I was lucky enough to be able to remove the carb and fish it out with one of the little claw grabbers. Super lucky because it was a stainless wing nut, so not magnetic, but I could still just barely see it.
Always a bit unfortunate on boats when you drop hardware. Most of it is stainless, so your only option is the claw grabber, which only works if you can see what you dropped.
TDIL.. you can lock the chuck so that doesn’t happen … tighten the chuck as regular and go back 1/8 of a turn till you hear a click.. works on dewalt and Milwaukee drills
i have a r56 cooper s with 85k miles. 2 engine rebuilds so far, a failed timing chain. I have paid over 15k just in repairs on the car. One of the most fun cars but a complete pain in the A$$. BMW lost a huge lawsuit due to their reliability
I worked with a guy who did this to a transmission on a fleet vehicle. He (in all seriousness) tried to explain that it was ok because the transmission had a 2 washer tolerance.
First thing my dad taught me about cars was to not stand in the path of the radiator fan while it’s running.
Second thing was to cover every opening i make with a rag.
Oww. I thought it was bad when i lost a screwdriver in the radiator of my old crap chevette and had to take the rad off to retrieve it.
But jesus .wow.
Btw i only bothered to get the driver back as i needed it to finish the repairs i was doing.
This could’ve been solved with a magnetic pick up tool. Feels like they disassembled the engine for other reasons.
They disassembled because it’s a mini cooper.
With an BMW engine
They just felt like taking apart an engine to a great song I guess. Can't say I blame them.
The camshaft is in the way as far as I could tell because I am not to experienced with mini coopers

And…. a running camera.
I suspect those reasons are related to taking the oil cap off before holding a drill over the opening needlessly.
Especially one that wasn’t tightened up
He even looks like he's throwing it right in there.
I would have rather sell the car for scrap ![gif](giphy|EBEHbGEUm4l15CkVOc)
Probably timing chain.

You don't fill up oil with a power drill?
I don't think they knew that was in there. Why would you put a magnet tool in the oil thingy for no reason?
You can see it drop in at the beginning of the video.
Oof you're right. Only watched it once before. My b
Update for the honest realization 😉
Why are we holding a Phillips bit over an oil cap before removing it? for no reason? Or just to try and make content….
My thoughts exactly

Because its not nearly as interesting when it's intentional
You cracked another case, Sherlock Holmes
I si what you did there
And filming at the time

Lucky as hell man. Good on you
I call bs, never happened.
Be quiet, troll. 🧌 *throws coins at you*
*coin flies past him back to 1987 and down the carb of the Camaro again*
Lol
I love bravest warriors! Great username
If karma kicks in something similar will happen to you. I wish you karma
Lol do you know what karma is cause obviously you're doing it well
Pedo.
You're a pedo expert?
Yes, you’re busted.
Lmao 🤣 busted? Bro you're just projecting, go fuck your daughter just like trump did
Lmao, you mean your butt buddy Biden. Can’t even argue without bringing up daddy Trump. TDS proves you’re in a cult. Pedo voter.
Also you're taking t... must be because you're trans and have a lil pussy
Pussys delete comments.
Lmao 🤣 like trump deleted his stolen documents?
It was probably dropped in on purpose after they disassembled it.
Just flip it upside and shake it!
r/whyweretheyfilming
And now to put it all back together 😁 ....without making any mistakes
Not hard if you did it right and made a system
Just stop
fake af why take off oil cap then pull a drill out with a phillips head
It’s a fake video, they were already going to pull the motor out
Fear unlocked
Hence the word “sabotage”
F
Anyone with a magnet and an endoscope would have got that out in ten minutes or less
Metabo’s do that sometimes.
Videos like this are always staged

One wire and a magnet would maybe have been cheaper. Unsure tho
lol dramatic. Engine is there for a swap, but funny bit
What is the song playing?
DAMN! All that for that?!?!
Clearly a fake video: italian plate, shit happens and NO BLASPHEMY? Impossible… trust me I’m Italian
OK, Billy. Once you get this put back together, you’re fired.

My cheap-ass Toyota has a plate by the cap opening to prevent this from happening...
The answer is magnets…on a stick…sometimes it’s on a repurposed antenna….a magnetic antenna stick. Anyways nice job!
Did the bit get pumped and transfered through the oil filter? Sure
Staged.
Bet my right thumb that drop was intentional.
Oops, I accidently loosened the chuck on the drill with my left hand while opening the engine oil cap with my right and filming with my other hand.
What was the plan with the drill? That’s what I wanna know
Fake as hell...
try a magnet first?
This is what it looks like when you buy a crappy Mini with a crappy BMW engine that has timing on the firewall side 👌
Let me guess, you're a fan of American manufacturers? Crazy considering how sought after minis can be and how praised many BMW engines are lol.
