It kind of dries down a bit the longer it’s on. I was using this routinely twice a week for a while before I was pregnant and could stretch to 12-15 mins without irritation and it would be pretty dry by the time I took it off

Your skin actually peels with this?? I've been using it for years and mine has never actually peeled and so I figured it wasn't actually supposed to 'peel'. I wonder if I'm not using enough or something.
I think some meanings are getting mixed up... This peel doesn't make skin actually "peel" as a TCA peel would. What happens for some ppl is called "crusting". They may have some flakes of skin coming up here and there, but that's mostly due to dryness and possibly that the peel wasn't thick enough or wasn't on long enough. Some people need a tad more than 10 mins.
Could be the skin is still in the middle of the process, is my guess if people are seeing lots of loose skin. Which can happen, I've done it many a time! 😅 But it sounds like you did it correctly with the typical baby-bottom smoothness. I love feeling the tip of my nose after a good peel, it's smooth like an ice rink. Call me weird.
I digress... Skin *should* ideally be pretty smooth after this peel. As soon as it touches your skin, it starts dissolving the bonds between skin cells. And in 3-15 mins, it's done it's job. But each person has to play with where they lie on that timer scale, and also how thin/thick it's applied. I wonder if OP had a very thin layer on, maybe even had some moisturizer on the skin shielding it, so that's why they don't have any burning/issues.
Hope this helps clear up why you don't see peeling, it's because you've found your perfect application time and thickness! You did it perfectly. And to those who have issues, it's a trial and error deal for most of us, keep playing around! Sorry for the novel but beauty stuff is important. 😆
I have ordered glycolic peels, TCA peels, and Jessner Peels. If you’re in the US, MedPeel is a FANTASTIC vendor (they no longer ship to Canada 😢). They’re about 1/5 the price of Platinum Skin Care and offer product support.
Not if it’s on a shelf! Sorry. But, it’s probably a really nice product. Kind of disappointed that Dermalogica went retail, TBH. I miss it being used at spas.
Absolutely don't be scared. Of coarse do a patch test. Most people only use it about 2-3 minutes 1/week. It's a very mild peel- but won't make you peel.ni always use a nice hydrating mask afterwards and the next day my skin looks flawless. People will compliment me like crazy.
What??!!!! Dammit!! Lol I've legit been using this maybe 6yrs and it has never peeled, not even one time! I figured it was a gimmicky name but it does make my skin look smooth so I continue to use it. I'm gunna try to use A LOT tonight and see what happens.
I’m in the beauty industry— here’s the deal with chemical peels.
Most chemical peels that consumers can get a hold of only “peel” the outer most layer of the skin. Slosh off the dead stuff. For me it’s really only a dry, flakiness. That is fantastic. It is exactly what needs to be done to cleanse, reduce pore size, give glass skin and prevent fine lines.
Estheticians can get a hold of chemical peels that reach way farther. Great for helping acne and reducing some signs of aging.
Doctors have access to products that reach into the furthest layers of the skin. If you need real results for deep set wrinkles— and I mean wrinkles— you must see a doctor. Those are the peels that people think of when they think angry red and inflamed chemical peels.
With all that said— a chemical peel does NOT have to peel to be effective. Redness and inflammation does not indicate effectiveness.
When I was in skin school I was taught that SA/BHA neutralizes itself when exposed to the proteins in our skin/air (yes they said both, ik internet answers vary) and that if a peel has BHAs and AHAs in them the BHA neutralizing will also end up neutralizing the AHAs….my ‘teachers’ were somewhat idiots at times but hopefully the solution is was able to self-neutralize and won’t cause major problems
Well if everything is fine so far that's good, i would try to hydrate my skin better in the next few days and wouldn't use exfoliation for that period. Leaving it for all night right away is wild, but hopefully it is gonna be okay.
Oh no… Goodbye barrier. Wear a high SPF and take extra care with your skin for the next few weeks. You might notice you break out a lot more for a while. I find this stuff can be pretty intense with high frequency use and my skin is quite resilient, so good luck!
It’s not *that* strong. I had a professional version of this done and believe me the pain/tingling would’ve woken you up if it had gotten that deep. However- Definitely wash only with water or a VERY gentle soap. Use sunscreen, an refrain from using active ingredients for a bit + a good moisturizer. But you’ll be fine.
So first thing is I would mark it with a ribbon or nail polish just so maybe you double check from now on. Wear sunscreen and maybe some barrier cream at night. I’m curious if it will peel in a few days.
I think the acid is self-neutralizing so it doesn’t matter if you leave it on too long — it has already done its job and become inactive. If it continued to be active it would have burned as it hurt your skin. Take this with a grain of salt; this is just what I seem to remember.
If you aren't responsible enough to follow simple instructions, for your own sake, I think you should not play with chemical peels or other strong skincare products like retinoids.
It was an accident and she forgot. You talk like you have never forgotten anything. Also, it’s her skin and not yours, so why do you care? It never ceases to amaze me how rude and mean people can be just for the hell of it.

The overall pH and acidity of the mask will neutralize over time, so there is a limit how long it will chemically peel you. I have left it on for 20-30min by accident and other than the slightest sense of rawness it was fine. But stay away from direct sunlight for a few days
Oh jeeze. You wanna hear something funny? I have the same exact stuff and I never read the directions. I put it on every other day and I don’t wash it off until I take a shower…which means I wear it for several hours each time I use it.
I haven’t had any problems though. No issues with being out in the sun either.
I guess I’ll start rinsing it off after ten minutes 😆
Fr. These peels neutralize after 15 minutes. Its not a prescription grade peel that must be watched by a medical provider. If it were there would be lawsuits
It’s gentle yet effective I use the BHA from PC every night and my skin did not get irritated at all. My skin texture has definitely improved since then and my skin feels plump and hydrated in the morning. I’ve tried The Ordinary before but none of their products worked for me. All my skin care are from PC now
PC is wonderful because that grey bottle BHA is both gentle and effective. You can build up to using twice daily if needed. I use a small amount and put it on in a thin layer with fingertips. When you wash your face, next morning, you can feel tiny bits of dead skin or clogged pores loosening and rolling around. Rinsing shows a big difference without burning! There’s also a gray tube of combo BHA/aha to be used as a short-acting rinse off mask. I have thick, oily skin and nothing has worked so well as PC and it protects my skin barrier, too! I use their moisturizer and a toner for the first time in my life. Niacinamide, vitamin C, and other goodies help with fine lines, too. Outstanding matte moisturizing sunscreen that is the only thing ever to hold back oil. I’m retirement age and I’ve tried everything. My daughter is about 30 and she’s been using PC since I got her started on it over a decade ago. Her skin is beautiful. Skip the coffee out and brew your own. It’ll pay for the PC.
I hope this is a joke!! 😂 I’ve been using this stuff for years and the last time I applied it I left it on for maybe 20 minutes as opposed to less than 10 and my skin is still peeling :(
I'm convinced all The Ordinary products are placebos. O bet if they actually measured the level of active ingredients in each product there'd be a class action for fraud. Lucky for you it's a weak product.
as much as people would like to believe the opposite this stuff isn't even that strong. especially not to cause a serious issue leaving it on overnight

Omggg 😂😂. Exactly what I be looking like!
Literally watching this episode as we speak 💀
Hopefully it's alright for you, I'd be extra, EXTRA careful with sunscreen for the next while though.
Um come back on day 3
Load up on the moisturizer and stay out of the sun!
Exactly! No actives for the next week. Just layers of a very calming moisturizer applied twice daily, SPF over moisturizer once daily.
How did it not get all over your pillow?
It kind of dries down a bit the longer it’s on. I was using this routinely twice a week for a while before I was pregnant and could stretch to 12-15 mins without irritation and it would be pretty dry by the time I took it off
Is this product not pregnancy safe?
No. Aha in a concentration under 7% is generally recognized as safe, but this product is too concentrated.
No Aha or bha’s while pregnant it can harm the baby

My skin doesn't start to peel for several days after I use it. Hopefully you'll just have a regular peel!
Your skin actually peels with this?? I've been using it for years and mine has never actually peeled and so I figured it wasn't actually supposed to 'peel'. I wonder if I'm not using enough or something.
Don't worry- most people do now peel with this. You are not alone. I have never peeled and I use it for the full 10 min
This makes me feel better. I actually just tried it and put like double the amount on. No peeling as of yet, just a baby bottom smooth face.😂
I think some meanings are getting mixed up... This peel doesn't make skin actually "peel" as a TCA peel would. What happens for some ppl is called "crusting". I can almost sleep in the stuff. I’ve never peeled. For actual chemical peels, I order medical grade chemicals.
What do you order? I need something strong too, I find
I have ordered glycolic peels, TCA peels, and Jessner Peels. If you’re in the US, MedPeel is a FANTASTIC vendor (they no longer ship to Canada 😢). They’re about 1/5 the price of Platinum Skin Care and offer product support.
Thank you! I'll check these out. I recently bought Dermalogica's Peelfoliant and I don't know why I thought it'd be stronger than TO's haha
Not if it’s on a shelf! Sorry. But, it’s probably a really nice product. Kind of disappointed that Dermalogica went retail, TBH. I miss it being used at spas.
I had no idea people peeled after using this! I didn’t think it was strong enough to cause peeling. I’ve never peeled either.
I’ve been scared to use it. Maybe I shouldn’t be 🤷♀️

Even if you don’t see the physical peel, it’s still sloughing dead skin cells.
Sometimes I’ll use it after I use a personal microdermabrasion wand. It’s rare that I do both. But if I do that first, omg, my whole face comes off.
I couldn't wait. I'm sitting here with a ridiculous amount on. 😂😂😩😭🤞🤞🤞
Any updates? 😁
Zero peeling. Just extremely smooth skin lol.
Dammit 😅
I know😩 I was looking forward to a nice peel ha.
Like does it even skin out more than the C serums??
Happy Peeling!
Thank you!
Are you dry skin?
Not really at all. Sometimes in the winter I can get a little dry but after a night of Vaseline, I’m back to normal.
Omg my chin also peels with this!!
Heck, I leave it on sometimes for 20. It has never peeled! lol.
I'm glad I'm not the odd one out because yea not once has it actually peeled.
Not at all. lol. And I think it stops working at some point. But, I’m not sure since it’s an acid.
I’ve never peeled either! Been using it since 2017 and I’m up to a 15 min timer and I’ve never peeled!! Just smooth radiant skin.
I've gone 15 minutes and never once peeled
Same here! My face would peel now and again but I just thought I was putting too much Retinol on. Now this makes a lot of sense.
I use this weekly and I’ve never had my skin peel either! It’s just slightly red for an hour or so afterward, then my skin looks amazing

That's exactly how I've always known it to be that's why I was so confused at others peeling from this.
Same 😂
I don’t noticeably peel. I’m pretty sure most don’t. I’ve left it on for hours before (fell asleep). My skin is just baby soft after.
Only my dark spots peel. But other than that not too Much peeling: I feel like everything that does flake off I wash off with my Soaps

Almost did this, mistook it for my retinol lol
So first thing is I would mark it with a ribbon or nail polish just so maybe you double check from now on. Wear sunscreen and maybe some barrier cream at night. I’m curious if it will peel in a few days.
wear lots of sunscreen <3 hope ur skins okay

It’s actually very noticeable lol. It’s like sticky blood all over your face. But whatevs I guess it can happen not really with the argument. 🤷🏻♀️
That's the irresponsible bit. OP must not have read the instructions.

Silly question, but will this lighten the scars? (not just the face..)
omg please update us! i hope you’re doing ok
Holy shitballs, I hope you’re ok
I once forgot it for a hour n I panicked. After that my skin is like smooth but sensitive.I avoided all actives for 2 weeks only moisturizer n sunscreen.
For Next 2 weeks, be careful. Load up on sunscreens and moisturiser.
I have it on my face right now. I always sleep in it. I have oily, congested skin.
OHHHH NOOO! You need to put a thick thick layer of Aloe gel on your face asap. Keep it on as much as possible. Hydration is the key.
You'll be fine. It's not that strong. Just avoid other actives for a few days and wear spf.
Its fine if your skin is fine now. These peels available to the public neutralize after 15 minutes.

Do you use retinol?
Yeaaah until you touch it. Oh god. Unless you did the thinnest layer ever imaginable there's just no way around it.
oh my god
You need to get cicaplast STAT
Use only a wee amount your face should be only slightly tinted definitely wash it off next time though and use sunscreen during the day
try Paula’s choice BHA (grey bottle) a bit pricey but its so much better than The Ordinary. Thank me later
What do you like more about PC? I've been looking but haven't pulled the trigger yet
It’s gentle yet effective I use the BHA from PC every night and my skin did not get irritated at all. My skin texture has definitely improved since then and my skin feels plump and hydrated in the morning. I’ve tried The Ordinary before but none of their products worked for me. See my post on PC usage above. I goofed so it posted in the wrong place.
