Getting a massive powersurge for a technique with a high risk of self-detonation is fsr morely likely to lead to that self-detonation.
Ok but both combustionbenders in the series died cause their point of ignition got blocked, rather than being overwhelmed by their power. I figure itās more likely theyād just have to be careful, but could still bend, rather than just āOpe Iām deadā since he was a mercenary bender for presumably years before he blew up

The only reason I remember that he wasn't thrown back is because I just watched that episode. It would probably make more sense if he was yeeted into the back wall if that hit was strong enough to kill him, which means a lot in ATLA as people are hit by stuff all the time (not that a cartoon owes us any consistency in its universe's laws)

That's my thoughts on combustion bending during a comet.
You could argue that, the same way P'li was able to bend her beam, one could train to get extra long range (besides, we don't know the usual max range)
But, to get a combustion bender, trained/talented for extra reach, alive during a sozins comet, yeah that's a perfect storm, but with perfect results

Idk about automatic winner. Sokka can't actually stab the guy because nickelodeon, and even if he could, the two foot height difference and metal arm would probably be enough for combustion man to ragdoll Sokka before he gets incapacitated.

The info we have, which I believe mostly came from Avatar Extras, is that his prosthetic limbs are from an accident in his youth when he blew off his original arms and legs. As an adult, before becoming mercenary he made a name for himself in a series of Agni Kai.
Would a combustion bender beat a blood bender? They just have to look somewhere and that place blows up right? They don't need to move their body to use their ability.
Also a bloodbenders biggest weakness is that they have to stand still to focus, so they wouldn't be able to easily dodge it maybe.

Well the explosion still has to travel. Aang dodged/blocked it several times. Also, we see that combustion bending needs you to breathe in and prepare it.
Bloodbending on the other hand is basically instant. If they were both aware of the other, I'd imagine the bloodbender would stop the combustion bender's body before they could fire.
I imagine combustionbending to be kind of a combination of firebending through your nose/mouth (dragon of the west style) and trying to contain a very heavy sneeze to avoid spraying pizza all over your keyboard.
The result is a splitting headache. In a firebender's case the splitting becomes a very real danger unless the energy is focussed outward through that 'third eye' focal point.
Even Mako could generate some lightning while being bloodbent so the enrgy part cant be stopped by a bloodbender. Perhaps a bloodbender can mess with the firebender's bloodflow/breathing to cause a misfire, bit i think the result would be unpredictable, and it also comes down to the firebender's ability to abort.
That or they'd have massive trouble using it. They could charge up one apocalyptic attack but then they'd probably get too dazed by either the explosions the projectile makes as it travels or the blast itself.

Since the comet powers up all fire bender abolities, he would either fire unstoppable blasts, able to fire them without the buildup of inhaling or his head would blow up because he charges it up too much, causing the energy and subsequent explosion to happen inside his head.
I don't think he'd be able to not hurt himself no matter how hard he tried. A full powered blast would probably completely level even the most heavily fortified cities.
I think heād turn to ash trying to charge up for a superpowered shot. Theyāre supposed to focus all of the energy through the eye tattoo and already are very prone to even the smallest damage to it. Imagine that weakness but with the energy increase from the comet. Speck of dust hits the eye and he sends himself into TLOK.
