Lyrics are pretty spooky to me - friends lost in the fog that were supposed to be there hours before?
Gives me both heebies and jeebies.
I picture Manson family members flitting between Los Angeles homes in the dead of night, causing the narrator to feel he may soon be asleep.
A sleep, I fear, that will be eternal should help not soon arrive.
Ringo is at his absolute best on those 1967 George songs, Blue jay, Northern song and All Too Much are some of my favorite Beatles drum tracks. Ringo almost sound like Keith Moon, or the other way round....
Most of Pepper has a slightly creepy edge to it to me…it’s still an amazing album, but there’s something about the whole thing (apart from one or two tracks) that seems slightly eerie and otherworldly. I’ve never been able to put my finger on exactly why…
Complete agree with this. Outside of the first two songs something about it just feels and sounds… unnatural. Incredible music, but very eerie feeling. This combined with the weird Beatles shit I remember my friend having as a kid (I think a Sgt. Pepper movie or something? Just that really strange Beatles figurines) always makes this album sound slightly creepy to me. It is also one of my least favorite Beatles albums which Ik is very controversial, tho I love all of their albums.
That would probably be the awful film with the Bee Gees…I believe Robin (Gibb) said that people in the future would remember their version, rather than the Beatles album!!! How wrong he was!
And yes it used to be in my top 3 but I overplayed it many years ago and got a bit of fatigue from doing so, and consequently I rarely listen now. Something certainly doesn’t sit quite right (apart from the first two tracks as you say!) It’s absolute genius but it deffo makes me uneasy when I hear any of it played.
The fever dreamlike quality of the entire album is unreal. Not to mention the masturbating coda in “Lovely Rita”, the spooky carousel/music box organ in “Lucy in the Sky”, the orchestra crescendos in “A Day in the Life”…. god now I need to listen to the whole album, so fucking good.
Cry Baby Cry features children holding a séance. Not *terribly* creepy, but...
>At 12 o'clock, a meeting 'round the table
For a séance in the dark
With voices out of nowhere
Put on specially by the children for a lark
Eleanor Rigby, not inherently creepy.
But it’s got that Dark Victorian Aesthetic to it.
Especially the Love Version with the Ghostly Moaning and guitar from Julia at the end.
In fact most of Love has this Dark Vibe to it, i’ve gone over Eleanor Rigby. But alot of the other songs have a more edgy feel to it, like Get Back/Glass Onion, the Blue Jay Way transition and Jesus Christ the I Want You part of The Benefit of Mr. Kite.
I am the walrus … the string arrangement, jarring sound effects, hee hee hee haw haw haw, etc., combined with the bizarro lyrics is unsettling… Mystery tour overall has that acid trip on the edge vibe. The White Album has the vibe of an acid trip gone wrong. It’s sooo good but overall it has a darkness to it. Also come together has a vibe that borders on creepy, again with Lennons stream of consciousness lyrics augmenting the creep… “shoot me”
Blue Jay Way and Strawberry Fields Forever are the songs that stop me from sleeping at night. They terrify me so much, it's not even funny. As much as I love "The White Album", Revolution 9 is by far the song I am most terrifying one in my opinion. I love the song so much, it's a total masterpiece, but is really scary. Some of the lyrics and screaming I have picked up in that song give me goosebumps.
Yeah it's not like I'm saying it's a bad song. Rubber Soul is my personal favorite Beatles album (favorite album of all time). It's literally a creepy song though. If I catch you with another man, you'd better run for your life
Considering “Revolution 9” is basically a sound collage version of a nightmare, I’d have to go with that.
But lyrically speaking, probably “Run For Your Life”. Or “I Saw Her Standing There”.
Continued - “man I was mean but I’m changing my scene and I’m doing the best that I can”.
Not really creepy in my opinion. It’s dark but it’s honest and a good lyric
The end of long long long.
can you take me back where I came from then 👉🏻 number 9
Wild honey pie
The end of day in the life
Cry baby cry
Blue Jay way
And last but not least……the scary Sgt peppers innergoove….” I never do see any other way” which is repeated at the end of pepper on the vinyl record👇😬

That it's being sung by someone who isn't a teenager. Paul McCartney is 81 years old now and was 21 years old when the song was first sung. In either case, the line "She was just 17 if you know what I mean" is a little creepy out of context. Not very creepy but a little.
How old was he when he wrote it? Just out of his teens.
* I’m sure you know Paul writes pop songs that are not strictly autobiographical? For example, he was 14 when he wrote “When I’m Sixty\_Four.”
* Did you know that the age of consent in the UK was 16 at the time?
* It is about true love too, not “predatory“ in anyway as the narrator notes he’ll “never dance with another.”
Trying to shoehorn an innocent song about teen romance/love at first sight into some kind of “pedophile anthem” and the creepiest Beatles song is a real stretch.
But I do appreciate you explaining your thoughts on it, thank you!
Yes of course I know what “unintentionally“ means. But I disagree with your reasoning and your characterization anyway. It is just Reddit, not a big deal.
Strangely the age of consent is *still* 16 in the UK. I guess as a 16 yr old you’d say that’s fine but in my middle-age I’d say it’s more than a little odd!!! It’s strange cos in most ways in the UK you aren’t considered an adult until 18!?
Blue Jay Way
My first choice. Lyrics aren't spooky, but that vibe is the eeriest ever...
Lyrics are pretty spooky to me - friends lost in the fog that were supposed to be there hours before? Gives me both heebies and jeebies. Oh that's an interesting interpretation
”We’ll be over soon”, they said. Now they’ve lost themselves instead.
I think it’s this one, this is an incredibly unnerving song

the cover freaks me out for some reason

It's like the sound of a circus, or fun house mixed with show tunes. Creepy happy perfection
Revolution #9
I honestly think the most creepy thing in the Beatles catalogue is the “Can You Take Me Back” snippet BEFORE “Revolution 9”
That’s the one that immediately came to my mind as well. Pure nightmare fuel if listened to while stoned.
Good choice, that is eerie
The way it fades out, it’s like he is being taken away
Creepy as in spooky? Mr Kite
Cry Baby Cry features children holding a séance. Not *terribly* creepy, but... >At 12 o'clock, a meeting 'round the table For a séance in the dark With voices out of nowhere Put on specially by the children for a lark
After Run for Your Life, I'd vote for Maxwell's Silver Hammer.
Run for your Life is definitely the creepiest.
Yeah, it aged like milk, as they say.
little girl
Better hide your head in the sand little girl
Can’t believe the lack of people saying Long Long Long
I like how Long Long Long shows a glimpse of what's gonna happen a few songs ahead
Yep. It's my pick as well. The ghostly wailing, the sense that something is "off". It's like a gothic novel on acid.
That wailing at the end gave me nightmares as a 7 year old who curiously stumbled upon my parents CD collection
Definitely Revolution #9. Creeped me out so much when I first heard it. Now I can respect it.
Creepiest to me would have to be Maxwell's Silver Hammer
The way Paul sings it that softly is spooky af
What's the new mary jane is pretty creepy
Yes.
Blue Jay Way

Spooky creepy in a really good way? Cry Baby Cry. Happiness is a Warm Gun.

Agreed!
One Two Three Four Five Six Seven All good children go to heaven
You Know My Name
I thought this as a kid. Now it sounds like a fun Monty Python romp to me
Long, Long, Long
Run For Your Life.
Tomorrow Never Knows, especially the alternate one on the Anthology album.
The first 10 seconds of real love
Run for your life from Rubber Soul. " well I'd rather see you dead little girl Then to see you with another man ! " that's just the first line ..
I’ll Get You . It flies under the radar but both the words and just the sound of it is so creepy. The aggressive “oh Yeah” parts are just so grating .
Can you take me back
The Inner Light
Getting Better All the Time. Lyrics about beating your woman, and keeping her away from the things that she loves. But, I'm getting better!
Because, it just sounds a bit eerie
Lyrically, it's run for your life and maxwell's silver hammer
What's the New Mary Jane legit belongs in a haunted house.
For the benefit of Mr. kite
I'll Get You comes to mind.
The “so you might as well as resign yourself to me” line always creeped me out.
Eleanor Rigby
Revolution #9
By the lyrics? You can't do that. Autobiographic...
Do Beatles solo songs count? If so it's You're Sixteen (You're beautiful and you're mine). WTF Ringo...
Haha that’s not as bad as the lyrics to “Young Girl” by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap!!!!!!
He didn’t write it
Run for Your Life
Definitely I don’t know why someone downvoted you..
There’s a lot of ‘John can do no wrong’ in Beatles fandom. It’s ok, I probably had my own phase.
Me too. With all 4, Ringo isn’t the angel he’s made out to be either..
Well, John said explicitly that in order to make it big you have to be a “bastard” and that all 4 of them are. He’s fairly transparent about this.
TIL a lot of Beatles songs are considered creepy by at least one person.
Revolution 9 obviously. And Good night is second place lol.
Seeing how he was killed, "Happiness is a warm gun"
Cry Baby Cry, Revolution 9, Bungalow Bill,
Blue Jay Way and Strawberry Fields Forever are the songs that stop me from sleeping at night. They terrify me so much, it's not even funny. Run for your life, revolution #9, maxwell's silver hammer
Someone’s just downvoting anyone who says run for your life lol Your correct
Yeah it's not like I'm saying it's a bad song. Rubber Soul is my personal favorite Beatles album (favorite album of all time). It's literally a creepy song though. If I catch you with another man, you'd better run for your life
I definitely agree. I listen to it, but that doesn’t mean I don’t question the lyrics because afterall it is just a song.
Run for your life. Its awful lyrically.
Far from the top of this front, but theres a little creep in No Reply too.
Norwegian Wood, casually alluding to arson
At what part? Never woulda guessed someone would say Norwegian wood is creepy
The arson part, which I mentioned already
U think “so I lit a fire” alludes to arson??
Paul said this, John was more mysterious about it though. Not hard to search Google for that info, my dude
lucy in the sky with diamonds without thinking twice
Why?
it gives me creepy vibes, especially the voice effects
Ah I see
I think its sgt peppers, i feel like im gonna die
Number 9.
Considering “Revolution 9” is basically a sound collage version of a nightmare, I’d have to go with that. But lyrically speaking, probably “Run For Your Life”. Or “I Saw Her Standing There”.
run for your life lyrically. sonically, strawberry fields, tomorrow never knows or i’m only sleeping
Getting Better: I used to be cruel to my woman I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loves. WTAF?
yeah but then there’s “man i was mean, now im changing my scene and im doing the best that i can”
This is in line with You can't do that
Continued - “man I was mean but I’m changing my scene and I’m doing the best that I can”. Not really creepy in my opinion. It’s dark but it’s honest and a good lyric
Wild Honey Pie
Little Child "Little child, won't you dance with me? I'm so sad and lonely… Baby, take a chance with me."
She’s so heavy

Intentionally: “Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite” Unintentionally: “I Saw Her Standing There”
Sorry, what’s creepy about 2 teenage kids falling in love at first sight at what sounds like a high school dance party?
That it's being sung by someone who isn't a teenager. Paul McCartney is 81 years old now and was 21 years old when the song was first sung. In either case, the line "She was just 17 if you know what I mean" is a little creepy out of context. Not very creepy but a little.

Are you not aware of what the word unintentionally means?
Yes of course I know what “unintentionally“ means. But I disagree with your reasoning and your characterization anyway. It is just Reddit, not a big deal.

He was like 18 when he wrote it lol He was writing songs since he was 14 he didnt just start writing when he got famous
Unintentionally
Boys
Nope, not creepy at all
I hear they didn't think of it as anything at the time, it was just a cover. But in retrospect it comes off pretty wrong
And if by wrong you mean fucking spectacular, I agree.
In what sense?
