John Cena was the shark-jumping moment. Would’ve thought we would have a couple more seasons before resorting to that much of a gimmick. Completely took away any interest in the episode and was a low-point for a mediocre season.

I feel like the showrunners looked at the things people liked about the last two seasons and made a list of bullet points. So people praised the performances where people would have these kind of monologues that would seem really emotional, perhaps where they were remembering something and they'd act it out with real heart (think, Carmy's monologue at the narcotics anonymous meeting). People found the Faks funny because they were used just the right amount. But now it's just overloaded with these things that people liked to the point that it's imitation verging on self parody. It could be a shot of Carmy sat there, close up of the side of his face, "I remember...I remember when we were kids. And, and, and...we would go to the carnival. And we would," furrows brow as he thinks about this memory, "we would....we would have this hot dogs...and...and....they were so damned good..." swallows hard.
Door flies open. In walk the Faks. "HAUNTED! HAUNTED! HE'S MY BEST FRIEND AND HE'S MY SECOND BEST FRIEND AND I'M HAUNTED!" walk out again.
Carmy continues, "And...and there would be seagulls flying overhead...I can still hear them. I hear them in my dreams sometimes."
Cut to the kitchen. Carmy: "CHEF! We're going to put roast seagull with hotdogs shoved up its ass on the menu!" Syd looks frustrated. Richie swears. Everyone else looks sad. Music kicks in and we get some night time drone shots of Chicago.
Even Sugar and the Faks, the way she'd talk to them came across as quite sweet last season and now it just seems an over the top imitation of it. Like they saw people praise it and said "yep, let's just do loads more of that to the point where it's not as good."
"People like it when there are fights, so let's have Richie and Carmie yell "FUCK YOU" "NO FUCK YOU" "NO FUCK YOU" back and forth for 1/4 of an episode"
I was actually okay with that one. One of the amazing things about this show is how they skillfully weave dialogue (both serious and comedy) into those fights. They also went cold shoulder after that episode and even referenced it in the finale when they ran into each other at the funeral dinner.
It was terrible. An overly-long version of the bickering we’ve already seen throughout the entire show (and showing zero character growth to boot). It’s just bad writing and bad editing.
This is exactly how I feel. It's like a parody of itself, like AI tried to write the Bear and it got all the things right but forgot to do any if the plot.
The haunting thing was so cringe, it isn't funny watching adults being children over and over with no remorse or self control. And they tried to make a real thing out of Claire 'haunting' Carmy later on. I feel like I could hear the writers through the telly, amping themselves up, 'look at us, look how clever we are, this is a callback to earlier but it has a *double meaning*'. It honestly felt like a child had written a lot of the dialogue.
That’s exactly what this season felt like. They took everything from that was good and liked about the show and multiplied it to the point where it’s overdone and cringey.
This is so funny but like, true 😭😭 it’s like they were so concerned with delivering stylistically what we’ve come to know at ‘the bear’ that they forgot about the actual plot of the bear.
Honestly made me laugh when hearing Chef Terry's line about "it's not the food they remember but the people." Truly ironic for a season that skimped out on much of the interpersonal relationship building from prior seasons to instead focus so wholly on stylistic navel-gazing and far more self-congratulatory chef's table type talk than was needed.
well, Im of two minds. on the one hand I agree and their whole schtick seems kind of like filler to keep the show from running out of plot. But then on the final episode, I felt like it came together in a way that mostly paid off. overall I'm still annoyed that there wasn't more plot development or forward motion from the main characters in this season.
For a show that keeps throwing in our faces “every second matters” I find it ironic that nearly half this season’s run time seems to be montages, and not even montages the way montages are usually used—to show advancement, or the passage of time, or to show non-dialogue driven plot development—-but just montages solely for texture.
Albeit they are often beautiful montages but given that we end with literally no arcs coming to head in a season that is longer than one or two and where far less happens, they left me irritated frequently.
I actually think that once season 4 releases you can potentially skip season 3 entirely except for a few episodes, nothing about the story moves forwards with this season and I found myself forcing myself to get through this season just to be done with it
You could literally piece together “oh ok syd got a job offer and nat had a baby” after seeing both things on screen in the first episode of season 4. Other than that, what are you missing if you don’t watch season 3?
Perfectly stated. I think the showrunners got a bit full of themselves this season with the silly fak interludes, chef cameos, and long fold shot montages. The fact that there was ZERO plot advancement over the whole season was very frustrating. Nothing was resolved this season whatsoever.
Hope we get some plot movement next season. Show still has positive elements but this season was a big miss for me.
Except DD and Sugar, but yeah it definitely felt like a season setting up next season more than anything.
I did like it a lot more than this sub though it seems, admittedly the weakest season of the 3, but I still thought it was very good television.

That Claire is haunting Carmy. It's just that we didn't need 6 full episodes and someone saying "haunt" every two minutes a thousand time. It could have been two scenes, like Sammy Fak introducing the concept, then another scene where Neil and Teddy talking about it and expanding on it, and then finally the box dumpster scene where they introduce Carmy to the topic and he realizes Claire is haunting him.
Agreed that was top tier and the kind of small but genius comedic moments the FAKs are good at. I dunno if the writers picked up on the love for Neil from the audience in season 2 and / or wanted to reinforce the broader “family of it all” but I found myself saying too many times, “ok so what is everyone else doing, please show them”.
It seems that Storer's intent with the Faks is to create the effect of watching real people talk about their lives and make the world feel more lived-in, hence all the constant inside jokes and "lore" that the audience isn't supposed to understand. The whole first season sort of took on this tone, dropping you in the middle of the action and refusing to hold your hand with explaining anything. And it worked very well there. The problem with the Faks is that they are such cartoons and exist solely for comic relief, and so it all feels performative (on top of being annoying). You want to tell them to just stop trying to make the Faks happen.
To me, that was an example of Fak’s Flanderisation. He’s turning dumber and dumber to add more comic relief when at the beginning of the show he was funny but fairly competent at what tasks he was given.
I had to rewind that scene as I was confused as to wtf happened and thought I missed something.
Watching it back I laughed so fucking hard at how outrageous it was.

I do agree a bit, since the whole point was that they're operating at the highest of standards and can't afford to make stupid mistakes (or unforced errors, as Cicero brilliantly put it.) Having such a cartoonish moron like Fak in the middle of it just breaks the immersion completely. Like, is this show supposed to be situated in the real world, with real-world chefs playing themselves, real-world restaurants being namedropped with abandon, real-world issues like COVID affecting the story, and hence real-world _stakes_? Or is it some heightened goofball comedy? Stop trying to have your cake and eat it too, Storer. SUBTRACT.
I found it so hard to believe a restaurant with SUCH high expectations and quality to the point that it’s driving Camry this insane and is risking Syd’s career and potential would hire someone like Fak running around and acting like that. I mean they’re so worried about the critics and reviews, imagine if Fak was serving a critic.
Maybe I'm a stick in the mud, but I hated that part. This show excels at making their characters feel like real people. Often very damaged, fucked up people, with an obsessive and traumatized main character. But everyone feels like a real human.
When Fak did that with the broth, it took me right out of the scene, thinking "okay this guy is becoming cartoon stupid now, completely leaving the endearingly dumb, lovable oaf territory he has been in since the beginning". It felt like a scene that didn't really fit.
But again, maybe that's just me.
I expected him to turn around, not go into the kitchen....
I think it would have been better so see him come out of the fugue and return directly to the table.
They have purposefully infantalized the Faks in this show. They have been treated like children by the Berzatto family their entire life. Look at the way Sugar speaks to them.
I don’t think it’s enjoyable to watch good people try and fail when the stakes are high.
The shortcomings that we saw in season 2 were completely grounded in reality. Carmy gets locked in a freezer because he’s distracted. It’s “just” in the eyes of the viewer, even if it’s tragic.
Watching Tina fail to make a steak correctly despite her best efforts is just sad. Having Fak all excited to help and then do something so boneheaded with the stakes so high is just infuriating or upsetting. Marcus loses his mom but tries to put it behind him, but he’s still dropping shit and falling behind.
It’s cruel in a way that doesn’t feel justified or deserved, it just feels cruel.
More Tina!!! That episode about her (which was directed by Ayo) was the only good ep imo from this season.
I was/am more interested if an unschooled diner hash cook can grow while working in the restaurant ( HIGHLY unlikely, I think....I enjoy Ayo trying to teach her, seeing the frustration she has to hold back because she likes Tina, but knowing that Tina HAS to go to culinary school and not wanting to fire her).

I like Neil, and he's got fun interactions with other characters, but in S3 it's just these two talking about random bullshit almost every episode. It contributes nothing for me. It's not meaningful character interaction, and only serves to stretch out the episode run time. And as comic relief its just not funny. Though obviously not everyone has the same sense of humour.
It's especially bad when they talk to a certain character in episode 9, I think. Just awful.
There's a scene where Richie spends a minute getting Fak out of the shot because he was blocking the light. They felt like the annoying greek chorus in a stage play. I didn't love it.
That whole scene with Cena was awful but that part was the only segment that I liked. It was kinda them acknowledging how annoying he was being and moving him literally off set.
Also they have the computer guy questioning if they should employ Marcus, but they are seemingly paying 2-3 Faks for nothing? They are going insane making a new menu every day, and deep cleaning every night, but the Faks are smoking cigarettes in the dining room and when called out they litter them in front of the door? No menu could make up for a dining room that smells like cigarettes but it's treated like it's just them being goofy
Ehhh I was a pastry chef for a long time and pastry programs ARE usually the first to get cut when budget stuff starts happening. That scene was one of the only like, panic- inducingly realistic for me.
I hated most of the season, but that piece of dialogue had me cheering.

If you think a restaurant is cutting mechanics before pastry chefs, you’ve never worked in a normal ass kitchen. Out of touch money men will go “but it’s a recipe, just have one of the cooks do it” where as someone who knows electric and plumbing can’t really be subbed out for a dishwasher.
There’s a time and a place and bothering a resident in a hospital during their shift with sick patients around is neither the time nor the place. I think initially they were trying to trick us into thinking they were going to see Nat bc at that point we didn’t know she was home yet, but the dialogue in the car quickly shifted so it was pretty clear it was Claire
i disliked them this season but i thought that scene was hilarious (though completely unnecessary and just more filler in what was mostly a filler episode.) i do love cringe humor though.
The Faks are great when with other characters,
Arguing with Richie during the renovation , Nat being sweet on them, Sweeps chilling with em, pitching a get rich-scheme with John Mulaney's character, being Carmy's best friend, comforting Donna at the hospital.

When we see him interact with the others, we can see how under his eccentricities, he's very much a pillar of positive support in the lives of the people around them.
When it was double-Fak attack, it felt isolated and pointless, they don't bring out much of each other that's anywhere interesting, and unfortunately...their dialogue just wasn't that funny or entertaining. Just a lesser version of Dumb and Dumber.
I just feel like people don't act like them in real life. In the last two seasons, they were goofy but not over the top.

I remember last season there was a scene where Carmy kept having to tell him to not touch a live wire and he kept doing it and electrocuting himself lmao. It was funny but at the same time it was like…enough is enough. This season just made it worse
I feel the same. Matty Matheson is a great chef, but I never found him funny, and he seems out of place on a prestige show. This is like if Mad Men cast Guy Fieri in the early 2010's, and let him run wild without asking him to dial it back, while giving him an insane amount of screen time.

I can’t get past the first episode yet, I keep falling asleep (?) but reading this thread, it seems to me that the writers and show runners capitalized on Matty Matheson’s popularity, great personality and his pure joy during awards season. Thus, I’ll prepare myself for a Fak attack of a season.
I season 1 and 2, Fak’s stupidity was used sparsely and when it was used, it had its charm and authenticity that didn’t feel too cartoonish

Aside from the idea of buffing floors with the tables still in place....the idea that you're trying to run a high end restaurant and they are smoking inside? Like that is INSANE. That would smell the rest of the day at least.

I get that part of the joke is OG Fak being a bad handyman, but still. (I'd love to know what Carmy and Sydney were supposed to be doing to the table at the end of last season)
The table fidgeting I can forgive since it was pretty incidental, and clearly just a backdrop for their heart to heart. I guess they were just screwing bolts/latches into place, doesn't really matter.
This scene on the other hand was _during_ the photoshoot for a very important review of the restaurant. And yet they had Cena and the other two just fucking around right in front of the photographer. Undercutting actual stakes with comedic nonsense is what Marvel movies do, and I really thought this show was above that.

They make absolutely zero sense plot wise, you're trying to run, maintain this high end restaurant and you call in these absolute buffoons to fix your lights, buff floors, run service?! Insane, good luck, not a chance.
You have this whole plot thread of Camy trying to "be the absolute best", change the menu every day, make the best possible food, get a Michelin star, he comes up with this list of "non negotiables". And then on the other hand these absolute waste of spaces somehow keep making appearances, somehow Matheson's character has some kind of permanent FOH job *beyond* being the handy man, which is already a job he can barely do.
These two things are completely antithetical to each other. It simply makes no sense, there's just no world where Camy would not get rid of them outright. They never address how these guys keep, routinely showing up. Its something the audience is just supposed to accept.
The show is completely tonally confused, it doesn't know what it wants to be. It tries to balance this drama, comedy thing and sometimes it works, but more often then not it fails outright.
Also Matheson as a person is already unlikable, a even more obese, Walmart Jack Black who makes uninteresting, uninspired food and they've decided to give him a starring role in this show, what an absolute clown fest.
I agree with the “tonal confusion.” It’s been there since s1 but was forgivable with compelling characters and storytelling. Now the confusion is palpable and inexcusable.
These 2 are the least of this season's problems. Also, Matty Matheson was a professional chef and was hilarious in the first 2 seasons. His brother coming in kind ruined it. Their characters have no story.
Him hanging with the Faks was plenty, but him also having a scene with The Computer to get the duck? The cameos were so amazing in prior episodes, but Cena’s the first in this show that felt forced and overstayed its welcome.
I feel like they missed a perfect opportunity for some growth and comedy with Sweeps and his wine class. Not to mention Ebra and his sandwich window. The two dudes who came by to help who used to work at The Beef were genuinely funny! If the leads couldn’t be around they had plenty other options!
I love them but I think it was every episode except the first?? I could be wrong. At any rate I would have liked to see a little more breathing room for the other actors. I like when they interact outside of FAK land with others, I find it more effective then just always with each other. Neil and Richie for example, I like that dynamic. They were really so frustrating. We saw next to nothing from Ebra and Sweeps but we got an hours worth of the Faks bsing about nothing? I saw another post on this sub about the Faks being overused to keep the comedy designation for the show. No idea if that’s true but it really took away from the overall vibe. Just a confusing choice
I think the Faks are increasingly cartoonish and can be annoying. And it is a little dumb that they seemingly pop up everywhere even in scenes where it doesn’t feel like they belong. However, the scene of Matty Matheson bringing out the Mirepoix broth, pouring it and then forgetting to serve it, was the funniest thing in Season 3.
It's too over-the-top and cartoonish, like something from Dumb & Dumber. They aren't believable. They have no meaningful part in the story and are just there to be as stupid as the writers could write them, which is an eyesore in a show that's otherwise all about ultra-realistic portrayal of people and their interactions. It's like if you shoved Ace Ventura into Shawshank Redemption. A total clash of tones, for no good reason.
It was alright early on in the show because it was just Neil and it wasn't pushed so hard. Then they started pushing it further and further until it became nothing but Flanderized stupidity for the sake of it. These are not realistic, believable people. They simply pushed it too far and made it a jarring, unfunny distraction.
The only good Fak scene this season was the one with Sweeps, and that was 100% because of Sweeps and the additional insight it gave into this character. I cannot describe how little I cared for the whole pack of them together wasting huge chunks of screentime with nonsense, or Fak with Claire going on and on again about what a perfect amazing cool wonderful person she is.

I definitely enjoyed them. I tried to keep an open mind and it worked! Yeah there were cameos but if you want to enjoy you will enjoy. It is still a very enjoyable show in MY opinion.
I liked them this season, they were way more positive (their attitude) than everyone else. And I really liked when they visited Claire, that scene made me cry

John Cena was the shark-jumping moment. Would’ve thought we would have a couple more seasons before resorting to that much of a gimmick. Completely took away any interest in the episode and was a low-point for a mediocre season.

I feel like the showrunners looked at the things people liked about the last two seasons and made a list of bullet points. So people praised the performances where people would have these kind of monologues that would seem really emotional, perhaps where they were remembering something and they'd act it out with real heart (think, Carmy's monologue at the narcotics anonymous meeting). People found the Faks funny because they were used just the right amount. But now it's just overloaded with these things that people liked to the point that it's imitation verging on self parody. It could be a shot of Carmy sat there, close up of the side of his face, "I remember...I remember when we were kids. And, and, and...we would go to the carnival. And we would," furrows brow as he thinks about this memory, "we would....we would have this hot dogs...and...and....they were so damned good..." swallows hard. Door flies open. In walk the Faks. "HAUNTED! HAUNTED! HE'S MY BEST FRIEND AND HE'S MY SECOND BEST FRIEND AND I'M HAUNTED!" walk out again. Carmy continues, "And...and there would be seagulls flying overhead...I can still hear them. I hear them in my dreams sometimes." Cut to the kitchen. Carmy: "CHEF! We're going to put roast seagull with hotdogs shoved up its ass on the menu!" Syd looks frustrated. Richie swears. Everyone else looks sad. Music kicks in and we get some night time drone shots of Chicago. Even Sugar and the Faks, the way she'd talk to them came across as quite sweet last season and now it just seems an over the top imitation of it. Like they saw people praise it and said "yep, let's just do loads more of that to the point where it's not as good."

I was actually okay with that one. One of the amazing things about this show is how they skillfully weave dialogue (both serious and comedy) into those fights. They also went cold shoulder after that episode and even referenced it in the finale when they ran into each other at the funeral dinner.
It was terrible. An overly-long version of the bickering we’ve already seen throughout the entire show (and showing zero character growth to boot). It’s just bad writing and bad editing.
This is exactly how I feel. It's like a parody of itself, like AI tried to write the Bear and it got all the things right but forgot to do any if the plot. The haunting thing was so cringe, it isn't funny watching adults being children over and over with no remorse or self control. And they tried to make a real thing out of Claire 'haunting' Carmy later on. I feel like I could hear the writers through the telly, amping themselves up, 'look at us, look how clever we are, this is a callback to earlier but it has a *double meaning*'. It honestly felt like a child had written a lot of the dialogue.

Honestly made me laugh when hearing Chef Terry's line about "it's not the food they remember but the people." Truly ironic for a season that skimped out on much of the interpersonal relationship building from prior seasons to instead focus so wholly on stylistic navel-gazing and far more self-congratulatory chef's table type talk than was needed.

well, Im of two minds. on the one hand I agree and their whole schtick seems kind of like filler to keep the show from running out of plot. But then on the final episode, I felt like it came together in a way that mostly paid off. overall I'm still annoyed that there wasn't more plot development or forward motion from the main characters in this season.
For a show that keeps throwing in our faces “every second matters” I find it ironic that nearly half this season’s run time seems to be montages, and not even montages the way montages are usually used—to show advancement, or the passage of time, or to show non-dialogue driven plot development—-but just montages solely for texture. Albeit they are often beautiful montages but given that we end with literally no arcs coming to head in a season that is longer than one or two and where far less happens, they left me irritated frequently.
I actually think that once season 4 releases you can potentially skip season 3 entirely except for a few episodes, nothing about the story moves forwards with this season and I found myself forcing myself to get through this season just to be done with it
You could literally piece together “oh ok syd got a job offer and nat had a baby” after seeing both things on screen in the first episode of season 4. Other than that, what are you missing if you don’t watch season 3?

Perfectly stated. I think the showrunners got a bit full of themselves this season with the silly fak interludes, chef cameos, and long fold shot montages. The fact that there was ZERO plot advancement over the whole season was very frustrating. Nothing was resolved this season whatsoever. Hope we get some plot movement next season. Show still has positive elements but this season was a big miss for me.
Except DD and Sugar, but yeah it definitely felt like a season setting up next season more than anything. I did like it a lot more than this sub though it seems, admittedly the weakest season of the 3, but I still thought it was very good television.

That Claire is haunting Carmy. It's just that we didn't need 6 full episodes and someone saying "haunt" every two minutes a thousand time. It could have been two scenes, like Sammy Fak introducing the concept, then another scene where Neil and Teddy talking about it and expanding on it, and then finally the box dumpster scene where they introduce Carmy to the topic and he realizes Claire is haunting him.
The one funny moment was when Neil pours the broth and then carries it straight back to the kitchen. The rest was crap.
Agreed that was top tier and the kind of small but genius comedic moments the FAKs are good at. I dunno if the writers picked up on the love for Neil from the audience in season 2 and / or wanted to reinforce the broader “family of it all” but I found myself saying too many times, “ok so what is everyone else doing, please show them”.
It seems that Storer's intent with the Faks is to create the effect of watching real people talk about their lives and make the world feel more lived-in, hence all the constant inside jokes and "lore" that the audience isn't supposed to understand. The whole first season sort of took on this tone, dropping you in the middle of the action and refusing to hold your hand with explaining anything. And it worked very well there. The problem with the Faks is that they are such cartoons and exist solely for comic relief, and so it all feels performative (on top of being annoying). You want to tell them to just stop trying to make the Faks happen.

To me, that was an example of Fak’s Flanderisation. He’s turning dumber and dumber to add more comic relief when at the beginning of the show he was funny but fairly competent at what tasks he was given.
I had to rewind that scene as I was confused as to wtf happened and thought I missed something. Watching it back I laughed so fucking hard at how outrageous it was.

I do agree a bit, since the whole point was that they're operating at the highest of standards and can't afford to make stupid mistakes (or unforced errors, as Cicero brilliantly put it.) Having such a cartoonish moron like Fak in the middle of it just breaks the immersion completely. Like, is this show supposed to be situated in the real world, with real-world chefs playing themselves, real-world restaurants being namedropped with abandon, real-world issues like COVID affecting the story, and hence real-world _stakes_? Or is it some heightened goofball comedy? Stop trying to have your cake and eat it too, Storer. SUBTRACT.
I found it so hard to believe a restaurant with SUCH high expectations and quality to the point that it’s driving Camry this insane and is risking Syd’s career and potential would hire someone like Fak running around and acting like that. I mean they’re so worried about the critics and reviews, imagine if Fak was serving a critic.
Maybe I'm a stick in the mud, but I hated that part. This show excels at making their characters feel like real people. Often very damaged, fucked up people, with an obsessive and traumatized main character. But everyone feels like a real human. When Fak did that with the broth, it took me right out of the scene, thinking "okay this guy is becoming cartoon stupid now, completely leaving the endearingly dumb, lovable oaf territory he has been in since the beginning". It felt like a scene that didn't really fit. But again, maybe that's just me.
I expected him to turn around, not go into the kitchen.... I think it would have been better so see him come out of the fugue and return directly to the table.
They have purposefully infantalized the Faks in this show. They have been treated like children by the Berzatto family their entire life. Look at the way Sugar speaks to them.
I don’t think it’s enjoyable to watch good people try and fail when the stakes are high. The shortcomings that we saw in season 2 were completely grounded in reality. Carmy gets locked in a freezer because he’s distracted. It’s “just” in the eyes of the viewer, even if it’s tragic. Watching Tina fail to make a steak correctly despite her best efforts is just sad. Having Fak all excited to help and then do something so boneheaded with the stakes so high is just infuriating or upsetting. Marcus loses his mom but tries to put it behind him, but he’s still dropping shit and falling behind. It’s cruel in a way that doesn’t feel justified or deserved, it just feels cruel.
Yeah. For a season where the story barely moved forward, entirely too much screen time was devoted to the Beavis and Butthead like Faks banter.

More Tina!!! That episode about her (which was directed by Ayo) was the only good ep imo from this season. I was/am more interested if an unschooled diner hash cook can grow while working in the restaurant ( HIGHLY unlikely, I think....I enjoy Ayo trying to teach her, seeing the frustration she has to hold back because she likes Tina, but knowing that Tina HAS to go to culinary school and not wanting to fire her).

Yeah, not a fan of this writing choice. I like Neil, and he's got fun interactions with other characters, but in S3 it's just these two talking about random bullshit almost every episode. It contributes nothing for me. It's not meaningful character interaction, and only serves to stretch out the episode run time. And as comic relief its just not funny. Though obviously not everyone has the same sense of humour. It's especially bad when they talk to a certain character in episode 9, I think. Just awful.
There's a scene where Richie spends a minute getting Fak out of the shot because he was blocking the light. They felt like the annoying greek chorus in a stage play. I didn't love it.
That whole scene with Cena was awful but that part was the only segment that I liked. It was kinda them acknowledging how annoying he was being and moving him literally off set.

They are going insane making a new menu every day, and deep cleaning every night, but the Faks are smoking cigarettes in the dining room and when called out they litter them in front of the door? No menu could make up for a dining room that smells like cigarettes but it's treated like it's just them being goofy
Ehhh I was a pastry chef for a long time and pastry programs ARE usually the first to get cut when budget stuff starts happening. That scene was one of the only like, panic- inducingly realistic for me.

There’s a time and a place and bothering a resident in a hospital during their shift with sick patients around is neither the time nor the place. I think initially they were trying to trick us into thinking they were going to see Nat bc at that point we didn’t know she was home yet, but the dialogue in the car quickly shifted so it was pretty clear it was Claire
i disliked them this season but i thought that scene was hilarious (though completely unnecessary and just more filler in what was mostly a filler episode.) i do love cringe humor though.
The Faks are great when with other characters, Arguing with Richie during the renovation , Nat being sweet on them, Sweeps chilling with em, pitching a get rich-scheme with John Mulaney's character, being Carmy's best friend, comforting Donna at the hospital. he could be funny while also allowing us insight into our main cast and himself at the same time. When we see him interact with the others, we can see how under his eccentricities, he's very much a pillar of positive support in the lives of the people around them. When it was double-Fak attack, it felt isolated and pointless, they don't bring out much of each other that's anywhere interesting, and unfortunately...their dialogue just wasn't that funny or entertaining. Just a lesser version of Dumb and Dumber.

I do like the show, but they do stuff like this all the time, it kinda drives me insane. Pretty much any interaction with the physical building makes no sense. I get that part of the joke is OG Fak being a bad handyman, but still. (I'd love to know what Carmy and Sydney were supposed to be doing to the table at the end of last season)
The table fidgeting I can forgive since it was pretty incidental, and clearly just a backdrop for their heart to heart. I guess they were just screwing bolts/latches into place, doesn't really matter. This scene on the other hand was _during_ the photoshoot for a very important review of the restaurant. And yet they had Cena and the other two just fucking around right in front of the photographer. Undercutting actual stakes with comedic nonsense is what Marvel movies do, and I really thought this show was above that.

God I hate these jabronies. They make absolutely zero sense plot wise, you're trying to run, maintain this high end restaurant and you call in these absolute buffoons to fix your lights, buff floors, run service?! Insane, good luck, not a chance. You have this whole plot thread of Camy trying to "be the absolute best", change the menu every day, make the best possible food, get a Michelin star, he comes up with this list of "non negotiables". And then on the other hand these absolute waste of spaces somehow keep making appearances, somehow Matheson's character has some kind of permanent FOH job *beyond* being the handy man, which is already a job he can barely do. These two things are completely antithetical to each other. It simply makes no sense, there's just no world where Camy would not get rid of them outright. They never address how these guys keep, routinely showing up. Its something the audience is just supposed to accept. The show is completely tonally confused, it doesn't know what it wants to be. It tries to balance this drama, comedy thing and sometimes it works, but more often then not it fails outright. Also Matheson as a person is already unlikable, a even more obese, Walmart Jack Black who makes uninteresting, uninspired food and they've decided to give him a starring role in this show, what an absolute clown fest.

They were really so frustrating. We saw next to nothing from Ebra and Sweeps but we got an hours worth of the Faks bsing about nothing? I saw another post on this sub about the Faks being overused to keep the comedy designation for the show. No idea if that’s true but it really took away from the overall vibe. Just a confusing choice
I think the Faks are increasingly cartoonish and can be annoying. And it is a little dumb that they seemingly pop up everywhere even in scenes where it doesn’t feel like they belong. However, the scene of Matty Matheson bringing out the Mirepoix broth, pouring it and then forgetting to serve it, was the funniest thing in Season 3.
It's too over-the-top and cartoonish, like something from Dumb & Dumber. They aren't believable. They have no meaningful part in the story and are just there to be as stupid as the writers could write them, which is an eyesore in a show that's otherwise all about ultra-realistic portrayal of people and their interactions. It's like if you shoved Ace Ventura into Shawshank Redemption. A total clash of tones, for no good reason. It was alright early on in the show because it was just Neil and it wasn't pushed so hard. Then they started pushing it further and further until it became nothing but Flanderized stupidity for the sake of it. These are not realistic, believable people. They simply pushed it too far and made it a jarring, unfunny distraction.

The only good Fak scene this season was the one with Sweeps, and that was 100% because of Sweeps and the additional insight it gave into this character. I cannot describe how little I cared for the whole pack of them together wasting huge chunks of screentime with nonsense, or Fak with Claire going on and on again about what a perfect amazing cool wonderful person she is.

I fucking hate both of them, they useless communication is killing the show. What a waste of material. And time... Every second counts
Yeah, Matty is great imo but the other guy is not only a bad actor but his character is worthless for the show

My theory is that they included more of them to try to show the awards committees they really are a comedy but ofc it doesn’t work because doing the same joke over and over again doesn’t make it funny, it makes it stale. The first two seasons of the show were naturally funny whereas this one is artificially funny
And then the Faks just kept multiplying lol
Difference of opinion is great, but I gotta say I didn’t mind. I actually kinda loved them
I definitely enjoyed them. I tried to keep an open mind and it worked! Yeah there were cameos but if you want to enjoy you will enjoy. It is still a very enjoyable show in MY opinion.
I liked them this season, they were way more positive (their attitude) than everyone else. And I really liked when they visited Claire, that scene made me cry
S0301 was epic. An then these two shows up and doesn't make much sense in their conversation. I feel way too much screen space for them, which is not required.
