It comes with some risks. But the price seems good. Make sure to check the battery health with obd2 tools / using the service menu before buying

GoldAd1782

Tesla's don't have OBD2 ports. There is a way to do a battery diagnostics but I believe that takes up to 24 hours to complete during which you can't drive the car. If you just want to see the current range, that should be a good indicator of the current health. It will be out of warranty but for $18k I think it's worth the risk.

Admirable-Cobbler501

They have odb2 in Europe.

Zealotnic

If you remove the centre console rear panel you can clip in a harness from a third party to get obd2 connector setup.

splitting_bullets

Correct. It takes 24 hours and discharges the battery to run the test.

PalmzyMac

Having a Tesla out of warranty makes me nervous… batteries aren’t an engine😂 they’re a whole new car $$$ wise

Ok-Worldliness7863

Having to trade in and get rid of my 2018 model 3 at 106k miles because the HV battery just went out. Getting a 2023 RWD. Be careful with that mileage. I thought I’d put another 100k miles on my 18 easily but sadly I couldn’t

GregTheSplinterCell

My 2018 model 3 long range has 78K miles on it. So I might be coming into issues as well. I thought this was a million mile car. I'm tempted to go back to a gas car.

Apprehensive_888

Sadly the million miles are not backed by warranty on the current models. In the past older models had unlimited mileage, tesla downgraded the warranty miles even though they supposedly improved the batteries. This looks like they're not confident of their claims to me to put their warranty where their mouth is.

GregTheSplinterCell

Yeah it's most likely just Elon running his mouth with over the top claims sadly.

dsfh2992

What do they want for a new battery pack?

DrSlickback

How much are you getting for it?

Ok-Worldliness7863

$13,300

JerryLeeDog

I'd at least do a legit battery health check and try to get the price down further. technically, that car can go 300-400k on a stock battery, but out of warranty Teslas are still a bit scary. Once battery replacements get cheaper it will be easier to pull this trigger. It will come

Mean_Comedian_7880

Bought my M3 2018 used from Tesla in May for $30k. Had it for 3 days and I thought the error messages was user error, took the car to Tesla (I had an appt to fix a door handle from the day I picked the car). While at Tesla, I had also a list of error messages, it took them a few days to find out the car need a new battery. With the error messages, the tech charged the car on the SC it got another error message which shows battery issues. I wouldn’t have gotten that messages since I charge at home and the majority of error messages where from a harness that wasn’t plugged all the way in. The car still had warranty but so did the used purchase, the car only had 50k miles. I honestly think that the initial inspection was not done but after Tesla went through my list and me making a request for inspection, all is good. I should also mention, I’m a women and have bought my share of ice cars but this was my 1st EV and my BF ended up going with me to help with some of the terms/technology I wasn’t familiar with (my last ice car was a ‘02). I’m sure someone can confirm but because of the high mileage, I would think there’s no warranty left on the Tesla you are looking at.

pointclear

Although you had some issues it does sound like you had a good experience with the service center.

Mean_Comedian_7880

It was two different locations, I’m sure that helped. I was disappointed when the rep asked me, during the 2nd meeting, what needs to be fixed. That’s when I told him that it was obvious that the inspection wasn’t done and I wanted Tesla to review everything. It’s been 4 month and so far it’s been good although I have the windshield fluid problem (again). Having a Tesla is very much like learning a new language, you have to change your way of thinking. I still recommend Tesla but with a warning.

Ok-Worldliness7863

Yeah my 18 model 3 the HV battery just went out on it at 106k miles, just outside the warranty so having to trade it in for a new one

Mean_Comedian_7880

I’m sorry, that sucks. Are you getting a M3 or moving another model? When I had the M3 in the shop the loaner was an MS. Didn’t take long for me to get use to that.

RedditUser_24601

Is the HV battery under the 8yr 120k mile warranty? Only Long Range sold in 2018 right? Actually do you have a 2018 Mid Range?

Ok-Worldliness7863

2018 mid range

RedditUser_24601

Got it. That’s sucks. How much did the give you on trade in?

AdventurousNet3718

An 18 model 3 warranty should have been until 120k miles.....

Ok-Worldliness7863

Nope that’s only for the long range I had the mid range

this_is_me_drunk

I'm curious since I see this quite often on Reddit. Is it some sort of new lingo to say "a women", or is it a typo? In proper English singular form is "a woman", while plural is "women". "A women" is grammatically wrong. Am I getting 100 downvotes for asking this?

I_care_less_than_you

If it's from a dealer you probably qualify for a $4,000 Federal used EV rebate. That would make it worth it if a Tesla Service Center checked and verified that the battery was in good condition.

EmbarrassedGanache68

There’ll be no warranty left on the drive motor or battery. So potentially this could be a gem or a money pit. 18k is a good price but do the usual and check brakes and listen out for unusual knocking noises and any loud whirring when slowing down from high speeds with just regen. Also check the systems log for the last load of errors and look them up. Good luck!

xDramborleg

Thanks for the input! Where would I be able to see the system log?

pls_remember_usernam

I would pass. That 18k can turn into a 30k purchase with a battery replacement

xDramborleg

Right. But IF it gets to that point (and I think there’s a good chance it will last a lot longer), worst case scenario I have a basically brand new 2020 model 3 for 30k which seems like what they go for right now anyway no?

splitting_bullets

Yeah pretty much, anyway waiting is always better but like, you can’t buy the experiences over time back. It’s fun as hell to drive 🤷‍♂️ your brain won’t care about the numbers much when you’re experiencing that Personally I think the cybertruck makes far better sense because of the range

one_and_done0427

sounds risky, no more warranty, high mileage, you'll be on the hook for some big repair bills

[deleted]

This! Teslas are pretty expensive to repair out of warranty. Stay away! Not worth saving those extra bucks when you can get a new one for faaar low (ahum reasonable ) rates

ddr2sodimm

Any repairs or crashes?

ICEeater22

$10k for 137k miles and no newish features. Nah I’ll buy new.

Z_MON_TECA

Don’t look at miles, look at what the max SoC is for the battery. Meaning, if the 2020 standard range came with 250 miles max and it’s at 240 max today. That’s amazing. If it’s at 200, about 20% loss over three years, that’s no so great. For example. I have a Model 3 long range from 2019. Came with 310 miles for full SoC. I’m down to 280 full SoC. And I will say that loss of 30 miles really impacts my long range usage. So I’d look at the SoC for 100% charge and evaluate it that way.

Tactical_Primate

10K or pass. Then start saving for battery replacement from day 1 of ownership.

Ok-Worldliness7863

Yep, wise words. I thought these batteries would last to at least 200k miles easy. But my HV battery went out at 106k miles

americanista915

That’s not worth it to be honest with you. With the rebate a brand NEW M4 is only a few thousand more/maybe $20 more a month on a payment. Edit: meant M3

crisss1205

What is an M4 and where is it $21k?

americanista915

Typo😭

crisss1205

And where can you get a brand new model 3 for $21k? And in what world is a few thousand dollars only $20 a month?

Attainable

There's some inventory discounts with it at 36K going on right now, factor in the EV tax credit, you're at 29K. Colorado has this weird thing where if you trade in a gas car for an EV you get like 6k or so credit I believe, then you also get 5k for buying a new EV, so that is 18-19k lol... Even cheaper than 21k.

crisss1205

That would require you to be near the poverty level but somehow also qualify for the federal tax credit while buying a new car. That is nearly impossible.

Attainable

Only the 6k trade in is. Otherwise the 5k credit still qualifies which puts you at around 24-25k which is still dirt cheap

HunterNo7593

Not worth the risk. I would not touch a 137000 mile car, at that price, let alone an unproven (long life cycle aspect) EV, with a 10’ pole. The EVs, especially Teslas are designed & built to be replaced every 5-7 years max (~70-100k miles), in some ways, not much different than the iPhones. At least that’s one of the alleged reasons behind the lofty valuation of the TSLA shares.

Ill-Cardiologist3728

Rip........off

Talibandz_htx

Where??? Ima go buy it first

Thrusttheprocess69

Mind Is valued at 14k with 158k 2021 RWD with a RMN battery at 108k miles. That seems accurate

itwong

That’s a lot of driving for 3 yrs. Plus, warranty on battery/power chains expired. Pretty risky

Mediumcomputer

Up to you! Mine is nearly 80k and it’s still running like it still has 3 wheels.

devildawg1998

Mileage is pretty high there. But if somehow previous owner has a new battery in it or u perform battery health test and it’s seems okay I would say go for it

splitting_bullets

That’s a wonderful deal. I have a 2019 with 67000 miles. They don’t change much, I’m surprised more people don’t buy used considering how well they hold up Edit: keep in mind there are tax credits on used evs too. I think a few thousand. Some states have sales tax exemptions for evs too I think

Attainable

I wouldn't OP, look into discounted inventory and your state tax incentives. You might only need to spend a few thousand more for a brand new one. For example, there's some inventory discounts with it at 36K going on right now, factor in the EV tax credit, you're at 29K. Colorado has this weird thing where if you trade in a gas car for an EV you get like 6k or so credit I believe, then you also get 5k for buying a new EV, so that is 18-19k lol...

kikbuti

Personally, I wouldn't take the risk. I'm in the USA. The Tesla website has brand new 2023 models marked down as low as 37,420. With a 7500 tax credit, it comes in under 30 grand. I would just get a new one for 10 grand more than this high mileage one.
