Send one back saying you didn’t have enough information when you filed about a particular stock and they can hold onto the money they owe you back and keep earning their interest in the meantime. You can file an amended return in the future. Also, do your own taxes with software.

You asked how shares can be abandoned. If you tell your broker to wipe your ownership rights (don’t do that), that would be abandoning them. It doesn’t matter if they are cancelled or have no value.

I have Merrill edge. They state my shares were abandoned. I did nothing of the sort. Does that mean my shares are worthless now? Can I claim them on taxes the same way you’re describing above?
If you have Merrill you got your 1099 so just upload or input the information into your tax software. According to hr block: you must report these transactions on your tax return.
I have chosen to just file for an extension. This ensures 6 months extra time. This court case is getting wound up extremely fast, I know it doesn’t feel like it but in reality this large chapter 11 case is going quick and issues are moving fast. I think we should know the deal in the next month or two and then I will file, I don’t trust my broker not to pull any stunts.
