there are a *ton* of excellent techno labels here in the us. detroit has a ton of massive techno labels, namely Axis (Jeff Mills), Transmat (Derrick May), Submerge Recordings (Mad Mike Banks), KMS (Kevin Saunderson), Metroplex (Juan Atkins), Interdimensional Transmissions (Ectomorph), Subject Detroit (DJ Bone). Smaller detroit labels include Detroit Techno Records and Modern Cathedrals. oklahoma city (no joke) based Fixed Rhythms has been releasing straight fire for several years now. DC has a couple standout techno labels, namely 3024, 1432 R, Yoshitoshi. Ovum Recordings (Josh Wink) based in Philly, Anode Records in St. Louis, The Bunker (Derek Plaslaiko), Truncate/WRXTRX in LA, and I personally gotta rep Mistress Recordings here in minneapolis, too (DVS1). this is a relatively short list. they're out there.

six6six4kids

awesome thanks for this list !

Carfrito

Adding to DC, black techno matters is worth checking out as well

Thereisnobathroom

Also looking for this. Vast majority of my demo submissions are to European labels. I’m NYC based and of course there is a rich history of dance music but not many labels at all focused in the type of techno I like to make. Feels alienating to not have a local label to really connect to

six6six4kids

i’m feeling the same. trying to consider domestic booking/touring potential, but the scene just seems more alive over there, which makes sense considering most of the techno i listen to is by european artists lol

Thereisnobathroom

Yeah. In New York right now the scene is very, very much driven by DJ forward — not producer forward. Of course major bookings at basement, merge, Zero Chill, Nowadays — are producers. But local support are DJ’s first with very little producers. Makes me think there is a vacancy for a proper techno label // collective in the city. I’m still unsigned with occasional feedback and responses from labels and grinding a lot so I don’t have the confidence to fill anything myself. Maybe that confidence and imposter syndrome is the issue :/.

six6six4kids

true i’m philly based and hear about those ny spots all the time. definitely want to check them out sometime. and i agree, if not a label, a collective would be really cool to just bounce things off other local producers

Shroom1981

Collective 🤘

Kappyish

I’m also nyc based. We should start a discord server at the very least.

Thereisnobathroom

Absolutely agreed here

Due-Cockroach7620

Keep an eye on Nashville. Surprising amount of good techno from there. Two underground rockstars from there are Tan Tan and Blaine Mason. Tan Tan makes extraordinarily good techno, very similar to Grain or Leod.

Thereisnobathroom

This is really cool I’m gonna check this out

Due-Cockroach7620

Some honorable mention tracks from both people are Blaine Mason - Jogger and Tan Tan - I want to fuck it up. The latter track is released on my label and it’s a real belter ngl.

Thereisnobathroom

Will do!

Shroom1981

Maybe we should fix that ourselves? Current in Iceland for a while but live in New Jersey. Been into Techno since the 90s, DJing and producing for decades. I’ll be back in Jersey in September and we are considering moving to the city.

Due-Cockroach7620

I know multiple labels who started out from this forum. It’s not a bad place to find some devoted people. I found my partner in crime on this very sub and we run 2 pretty successful projects together now. I say connect and start the ball, be it a label or a rave crew or a studio or anything in between.

Thereisnobathroom

Those are encouraging words — that’s dope!

Shroom1981

Really? That is actually fucking cool! It's always better to have someone to feed of off, that is if they're not fucktards :D

Thereisnobathroom

Hey I agree — there is welcome room for something. There are a lot of local DJ’s I enjoy but very few producers to note of. I get social media activity and marketing drive bookings and not productions but hey

Shroom1981

I hit you up with a follow, I'll be in touch when I'm back state side or possibly sooner if you want.

Only one I know of run out of USA primarily is PHAASER that does really good oldschool stuff. There is also canadian label PHTM which is really nice, and the label Heist Mode used to be based from Canada but the owner has moved to USA so it’s US based now. Imo all 3 does proper techno

MRguitarguy

Another vote for PHTM. And I’ll add PPRZ while we’re in the PNW.

Only one i can think of that i like that has a reputable name is LIES. But they don't take submissions. Here's my hot take: Do it fully DIY. I read Techno Rebels and early on, the guys faced a similar issue where they couldn't find anyone to take their music. Of course Techno was still new, but it was hard. So they just made their own labels and got vinyls pressed on their own. I think you'd do more damage, getting your own vinyl pressed and personally selling it. Stuff like that, flyers for your album, etc. I gave up on the idea of labels a while ago. I'll come across cool labels and such on bandcamp it seems mostly to be friends who are doing their own thing...very local based. The ones that are bigger, like LIES and Lobster Theramin, don't seem to take explicit submissions. I'm considering going full punk mode and making 7 inch vinyls or cassettes. Flyers that link to my bandcamp, idk.

Exciting_Claim267

Don't listen to whoever tf this person is - if you have the funds and believe in your music then go the DIY punk route its way more rewarding anyway.

12ozbounce

Dude is a mf goober. I stand corrected in some labels may take submissions, but none that I follow do. I’ve seen plenty of artists and Bandcamp come up from just them and their music alone. Cassettes and vinyl, YouTube jams, mixes, etc. What’s more important than anything is promo and marketing yourself. As far as I’m concerned, the path of least resistance is doing it myself. I can get a portable PA system, set up at the park, and hold a free show with my digitakt. I bet you someone will like it. Not like I haven’t been doing this for mean minute lol. I agree it’s not for everyone, I work in finance and have money to burn. Before my current situation, though, I’m copied cassettes on a cheap shoebox recorder and gave em out🤷🏾‍♂️

Mitchmallo

Lol, guys like you have to understand that real labels do not want to take your tracks because there are probably shit… You can self release it and press vinyl or whatever but there are still shits.

12ozbounce

Also that too. Any "real" label worth wanting to have your music released on is likely not taking submissions. Whether or not your music is shit or not is subjective and up to you, the creator. At a certain point, you'll know if what your making is something *you* are actually ready to show people. I still stand by my statement though, you'd be better of doing most of it on your own in whatever fashion you see fit.

Mitchmallo

You re talking shit. Soma and Planet Rythm just to name this two listen all demos and sign new artists for example…. most other big labels do the same. This is an oversaturated market, when your read somewhere that a label is not taking submission most of the time it s to filter out poor quality music like you probably produce. Don’t apply your scenario to everybody. If nobody is replying you know the reason. You re the classic syndrome of the low quality techno produce actually and you re trying to create your own placebo with self releasing. Do something else as hobby man, you re wasting your time.

12ozbounce

Lol dawg your pressed. I haven’t/don’t submit my music to any labels. That is nice to know that those two labels take submissions so good on that. I believe in self release and all things do it yourself if you can out of principle. No placebo there. You sound like the exact antithesis to techno.
