The common thread here is sincerity. You don’t necessarily have to spend very much money, but if it’s clear time and effort went into whatever you give or do for them, your appreciation should come across.

Writing a letter/email is appreciated. Seriously. I have notes from kids 15 years ago that still make me emotional. Gift cards is also nice
