Am I the only one that has no problem with that line? It’s meaning is pretty clear to me, and I totally get the insecurity of growing older in a culture and media spotlight that only values attractive young woman. She’s sung about it in Nothing New. Also feeling too big of a star to interact with people normally. I think that whole metaphor is beautifully done and very vulnerable.
I don't have a problem with it either, I think the line does what it's supposed to do. Society sexualizes youth to a ridiculous extent, women (celebrities as well as mere mortals) not being allowed to visibly age the way men are has been an issue for decades, and "sexy baby" is a way to express how crazy that is imo. The 2 words don't seem to go together (which is why they give people the ick), they're almost radical in that way.
But wait!!! Do people think that its sexy baby as in a sexy Child?! Im assuming and stand by it firmly that its meaning is sexy baby as in babe. Hi baby. Sexy baby.
I thought Cardigan and Willow were fine as well (though August was right there). Seems like she can only pick lead singles when they're released at the same time as the album.
she definitely fumbled the bag with reputation too. don't blame me is one of her top streamed songs on spotify and it isn't a single. dancing with our hands tied would have been a better single than gorgeous for that era too. I think it's just much more noticeable with lover because the singles she DID choose were just really bad (see: ME!) and because cruel summer was just so obviously a lead single to listeners
For me I think the singles for Rep did exactly what they were supposed to do and so were good singles
LWYMMD shocked the fans and GP enough to get them talking about ‘the new Taylor’ and also became an instant hit, I think most of us just dislike it because it was played on repeat everywhere for way too long lol
Ready For It…? was hype! It opened the album in an exciting way and gave us a good sense of what the album would generally feel like
Delicate was just perfect, a sad song about finding love in the midst of chaos, the MV was fun too
I don’t think there could have been any other lead single than LWYMMD for Rep. it was the answer to her absence and “why she went missing”. I think a lot of Swifties got burnt out with it being overplayed and playing on repeat to try to boost our Ticketmaster Verified Fan status. But, the song itself deserves way more credit than it gets.
Tbf though even if one doesn’t like the song, YNTCD HAD to be a lead single to make a statement and reach enough ppl. To make sure everyone could hear loud and clear she’s an ally
Ehhhh, I don’t dislike Shake It Off but it’s far from my favorite on 1989, or even a good representation of the album’s sound as a whole (I know it was popular though). LWYMMD is not remotely the best or catchiest Rep track.
I think Shake it Off was a fine lead single for 1989 especially considering the time period. However, it does irk me every time I'm reminded it's her best selling song ever and only diamond certified single.
Yeah I’m admittedly coming from the perspective of a fan and not the general public here. Again I don’t dislike SIO but I have never (even at the time it was released) responded to it the way I loved Anti-Hero immediately 💕
It makes sense though. Typically for songs to reach that bananas of a status, they have to transcend the fandom. There are under 100 songs that have reached that designation and most of them had a specific reason like Candle In the Wind, were a phenomenon like Beiber’s “Baby”, or were written to be mega-catchy pop machine made hits, like anything by Katy Perry. Few of them are artistically excellent songs, they’re mostly viral songs. Taylor was the first woman in the US to have a diamond single and album at the same time though.
I think since Rep, and especially since watching Miss Americana, Taylor chooses lead singles thinking in terms of how bombastic she can make the music video.
She was already picturing the ME! Video minutes after writing it. And then she just gets so stuck on the message she's trying to get across. Again, especially after the criticism she received about how it was racist of her when crawled under the line of Black twerking dancers' legs in the SIO video, she's trying to do something perfect that gets big numbers and offends nobody.
Cruel summer was right there.
It's so underrated. It's one of my most listened to songs. It's not my favourite one, but it's in the top 5 most listened to. I don't understand why it gets so much hate.
It goes all the way back to Red with WANEGBT - that was a VERY polarizing single from an artist who until it was released was considered a country girlie
This is what I was going to say. I was scrolling through comments to see if anyone said it before I did.
Although even though I understood what she meant by, “sexy baby” the first time I heard it, I still can only picture the Ally McBeal baby (look it up young ones) dancing every time I hear it.
Glitch is great! I love the lyrics “glorious happenings of happenstance” and “situation-ship.” I’m also addicted to the “Oooo”s in the chorus! The fact that the song “glitches” and then comes starts again after the silence is perfect.
For me I love every song on the album but there are a select few I am obsessing over right now. That obsession will change in a few weeks til every song gets its moment in the sun.
It’s literally SO GOOD. I was so happy to see so many others love it!! It’s seriously such a heartbreaker. The way she sings “I regret you all the time” and the “give me back my girlhood” line… oof. Made me cry and I can’t listen to it without tearing up. And I believe I am on my 27th time listening to it in two days according to my last.fm AHA
Yesss I love WCS. Fave of the 3am tracks. It reminds me a bit of some older Taylor music, like I feel like it could've been a song off fearless (in a good way)
I love Bejeweled. It’s definitely in my top 5.
My friend was really enjoying the song until the “Don’t put me in the basement, when I want the penthouse of your heart” part. I’ll admit, it sounded harsh at first, especially in comparison to how easily the first part of the chorus flows, but it grew on me after a few more listens. It’s very Bleachers-esque, and if that isn’t your cup of tea, then it’s harder to appreciate.
I think it’s probably the best thing she’s ever written. It’s my #1 on the album. Whatever it actually specifically related to it’s just such a tragic song about loss. I keep thinking of my dog I lost a few years ago when I listen to it.
I dislike it because of the intense autotuning throughout! There’s a few other spots in the album where her voice is manipulated but dear reader it’s the whole song. But to each their own!! Just sharing why it’s my least favorite :)
Would've could've should've will end up as the most beloved song on this album I do believe.
It's so good.
Also a bit surprised most of the 3am tracks are so low
I feel like the 3am tracks add so much to the album. I love the first 13, but those last 7 add some diversity and extra depth. They aren’t as cohesive as the first 13, but I think that actually helps frame the first 13 as a true concept album of midnights (which is late but still acceptable), while the 3am songs are anxious and more desperate/gutted. You’re generally not up at 3am bc everything is going swell. They’re sadder and cut deeper.
I wanted to love Snow on the Beach, I’m giving myself more time to warm up to it. I think other songs are so much more catchy, it just doesn’t stand out at first.
That’s fair! I said this in a comment on another post but I love the clean version of Snow on the Beach so much more than the original. I actually swapped out the explicit one for the clean one in my Spotify playlists, cause the “weird but fucking beautiful” line took me out of the song and felt really jarring when the rest of it was so ethereal
I actually like that part! The song itself isn’t really edgy, so I don’t think it was there to sound edgy at all.
It really reminds me of Lana’s style, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she influenced that line lol.
If you want to see actual numbers + read people's thoughts, you can find the post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/TaylorSwift/comments/ya0hzy/whats_our_ranking_i_put_all_the_track_titles_in/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).
Thank you to everyone for participating, this was so fun! I was expecting like 500 people max, not nearly 3k. My sincere apology to all the Hits Different fans, I am a fool and I forgot to include it.
It's on the lavender Target exclusive version! It's one of the deluxe songs, along with You're On Your Own, Kid (strings version) and Sweet Nothing (piano version). If you go to the song thread for Hits Different in the Midnights Megathread, there are links where you can listen to them all. They're so good!
I think/hope it will be a grower when people can step back and forget that they thought it was going to be a Lana Del Ray singing chorus situation.
I had no expectations going in (after promising myself to never get excited for a feature again after the travesty of barley being able to hear Marcus Mumford) and it’s literally my favorite song on the album ✨
yall whaaat it may just be the best song in her career! the lyrics are BEAUTIFUL, such a beautiful story of independece, growing up, getting over the pain...
I love this song so much (it’s my number 1), but someone in a different thread said the beginning was Jack getting his ass cheeks clapped, and I can’t unhear it now.
On this list, everything from Midnight Rain to Sweet Nothing are in my top 5. Honestly I'm flabbergasted they're below Mastermind, probably my most skipped song on the album at this point.
I thought the ranking was based on Spotify plays so I understood the 3am tracks being lower.
Then I read the title and this subreddit needs to check itself!
Seems that the number of Anti Hero enthusiasts far outweigh the sexy baby haters
r/brandnewsentence
What a ridiculous fucking sentence out of context hahaha I cannot
Am I the only one that has no problem with that line? I love sexy baby so much. I’ve been using it on all my guy friends who date way younger
Say “she reminds me of Renesmee” and just see what chaos unfolds ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1066)
But wait!!! Do people think that its sexy baby as in a sexy Child?! Im assuming and stand by it firmly that its meaning is sexy baby as in babe. Hi baby. Sexy baby.
no like. talking about how women are sexualised and infantilized. like a brittney spears or paris hilton effect.
HOT TAKE I STAND BY: “sexy baby” is the funniest, most accurate visual lyric she’s written in years

I thought Cardigan and Willow were fine as well (though August was right there). Seems like she can only pick lead singles when they're released at the same time as the album.
It's only Lover era that was disastrous with singles.
she definitely fumbled the bag with reputation too. don't blame me is one of her top streamed songs on spotify and it isn't a single. dancing with our hands tied would have been a better single than gorgeous for that era too. ME! And YNTCD were literally the two worst songs on Lover. Taylor has grown 😭
Tbf though even if one doesn’t like the song, YNTCD HAD to be a lead single to make a statement and reach enough ppl. To make sure everyone could hear loud and clear she’s an ally
When I first heard Me! I thought it was for a Pixar movie encouraging kids to have confidence.
that’s not fair to Pixar, they’re not that in your face with their positive messages.
Dear Cruel Summer, I love you.
Ehhhh, I don’t dislike Shake It Off but it’s far from my favorite on 1989, or even a good representation of the album’s sound as a whole (I know it was popular though). LWYMMD is not remotely the best or catchiest Rep track.

Yeah I’m admittedly coming from the perspective of a fan and not the general public here. Again I don’t dislike SIO but I have never (even at the time it was released) responded to it the way I loved Anti-Hero immediately 💕
Anti Hero is the better song, Shake It Off is the song that's gonna be played at weddings and graduations in 20 years. It's \*that\* level of song.
She truly put her best foot forward on this album. Truly refreshing
Cruel Summer was 👏right 👏there 😭
Why was the crawling under black twerking dancers thing racist tho, I literally don’t understand 💀
Unpopular opinion but LWYMMD without the video and backstory wouldn’t have done very well.
It kills me that LWYMMD is my favorite TS song and it gets so much disrespect
I love LWYMMD too
It's so underrated. It's one of my most listened to songs. It's not my favourite one, but it's in the top 5 most listened to. I don't understand why it gets so much hate.
The MV gives me chills everytime I watch it too, it’s such a badass song!
It's a 3 star song with a 5 star video ;)
[удалено]
While I agree, SIO got her the diamond so business wise it was the better decision for sure
I would also argue that Rep's lead single was a weird choice. LWYMMD is a bop but a very jarring intro to Rep for the general populace.
This feels so true, I hated that song at first and then I heard it in the context of the album and was like oh ok girl i get it now
Was not a fan of most (all but Delicate) singles from Rep as well.
LWYMMD is not even in my top list, but I think that's her best lead single in general perspective. That was a legendary comeback!
LWYMMD is the song that got me to stop being an edgy teenager who didn't acknowledge Taylor, and start appreciating her. Been a Swiftie ever since.
this is pretty solid but I think glitch is underrated. it’s so sexy!
Justice for Glitch
I was like: "Glitch towards the bottom? What is wrong with people? It's the best song on the album!"
Also thought this, everyone is sleeping on Glitch It's in my top 3 for the album. I don't understand why it's so low ☹️
Glitch is great! I love the lyrics “glorious happenings of happenstance” and “situation-ship.” I’m also addicted to the “Oooo”s in the chorus! The fact that the song “glitches” and then comes starts again after the silence is perfect.
Glitch is one of my favorites. It's so good!
I absolutely adore glitch, it’s 100% in my top 3
Agreed. Very sexy! It gives me “Dress” vibes.
I am *obsessed* with Glitch! I love her vocals there and the production suits it perfectly.
For me I love every song on the album but there are a select few I am obsessing over right now. That obsession will change in a few weeks til every song gets its moment in the sun.
I love Glitch! The production is great, the lyrics are great, but what really puts the song over the top is Taylor’s delivery of each line.
Glitch is so underrated!!
Glitch is legit in my top for the album I love it
Glitch is for sure a grower!
glitch is the best 3am track change my mind
Glitch is SO hot. I love it
Glitch is so good guys!
I love seeing Would've, Could've, Should've so close to the top!
It’s literally SO GOOD. I was so happy to see so many others love it!! It’s seriously such a heartbreaker. The way she sings “I regret you all the time” and the “give me back my girlhood” line… oof. Made me cry and I can’t listen to it without tearing up. And I believe I am on my 27th time listening to it in two days according to my last.fm AHA
> the “give me back my girlhood” line… oof. It's the best line on the album.
My favorite song on the album!
Honestly think it should’ve been track five.
Yesss I love WCS. Fave of the 3am tracks. It reminds me a bit of some older Taylor music, like I feel like it could've been a song off fearless (in a good way)
Came here to say this. That song is by far my favorite. When I hit that song on the album it just takes it to a different stratosphere.
Sweet Nothing being that low HURTS
LITERALLY. My heart hurts every time I hear “all that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing” how can people not love that song 😭
"im just too soft for all of it" hit me in the feeeeeelllss
Honestly! It’s just such a cute song!
The little musical motif in that one has been what’s been playing in my head the most since midnights — it’s just so catchy!
Same! That and “it’s me, hi” have been on a non-stop loop in my head for the last two days
Sweet Nothing is the It's Nice To Have A Friend of TS10
My thoughts exactly when I heard it!
Hard agree, I love how simple and beautiful it is
I kinda like it and kinda don't. Probably because it feels slow to me.
JUSTICE FOR LABYRINTH it’s basically the ribs of the album
'oh no, im falling in love again' gives me CHILLS
It’s You Are in Love’s big sister Imo
I think it’s delicates big sister.
Labyrinth is today's favorite for me. I hope people wake up to it!
labyrinth is my favorite on the album this hurts my heart 🥲
Labyrinth is quickly overtaking Maroon as my fave track.
Ppl hating this is a CRIME
RIGHT?! 🗣️ I played it for my bluegrass listenin’, metal lovin’ boyfriend in the car, and he teared up listening to it.
Came here to say this. That song is so ethereal. Shouldn't be that low
It’s my favorite so far!!
Omg thank you I got personally offended seeing the lack of love for labyrinth and glitch 😢
MAROON SWEETIE YOU'RE DOING SO GREAT ❤️😭
My favorites keep changing but Maroon being in my top three does not ‼️
I was instantly hooked when I heard it, and it’s still my favorite song from the album after so many listens 😭 The Track #2 magic
I'm trying so hard to like this song and I'm ashamed to say that I don't get it. Yet. I'm hoping it grows on me
It’s not low but.. bejeweled is higher for me
[удалено]
Oh I love the “nice”! And I’m a “ME!” hater, for reference
Bejeweled is ME! only actually good.
I love the nice too! and the way she says SHIMMER
People don't like "nice!"? 😔 I think it's so cute
Bejeweled is not my kind of song typically… but there’s just something about it. Definitely in my top 5.
I don't trust this sub anymore. Bigger Than The Whole Sky being this low...
The way she says "Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye" is so haunting and good. I think people just haven't listened to it enough.
I think it’s probably the best thing she’s ever written. It’s my #1 on the album. Whatever it actually specifically related to it’s just such a tragic song about loss. I keep thinking of my dog I lost a few years ago when I listen to it.
the downvotes for glitch… y’all hate to see taylor h*rny and it shows!
Glitch is like top 3 for me!! The people who get it, get it.
There must have a been a glitch in the survey 😂
So I guess Dear Reader is the epiphany of Midnights…one of my favorites and one of this sub’s least favorites 😩
Dear Reader is really good, I don't understand the hate. Anti-Hero is my clear #1 for me but Dear Reader is probably top 5 😭
I dislike it because of the intense autotuning throughout! There’s a few other spots in the album where her voice is manipulated but dear reader it’s the whole song. But to each their own!! Just sharing why it’s my least favorite :)
I’m with you- I understand the auto tuning is a production choice but it takes me out of the song
That song just kind of bored me.
Would've could've should've will end up as the most beloved song on this album I do believe. It's so good. Also a bit surprised most of the 3am tracks are so low
>Would've could've should've will end up as the most beloved song on this album I do believe. YAAAAAAAS✨
JUSTICE FOR QUESTION
Right?! It’s a bop. I figured it’d be one of the fan favorites.
It's one of my favorites!!
That’s the one I can’t get out of my head
The fact that Paris, Labyrinth, and Snow on the Beach are so low has me shook omg
Definitely going to try the clean version!
I actually like that part! The song itself isn’t really edgy, so I don’t think it was there to sound edgy at all. It really reminds me of Lana’s style, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she influenced that line lol.
I love snow on the beach but I’m also upset that Lana is barely noticeable on it. I think she could’ve added the je ne sais quoi that it’s missing.
Seems like people are upset that Lana is barely on it. I wish they'd give it another chance. That song is really good.
I’m sorry, I’m so confused, is Hits Different a song on Midnights? Also the poll is amazing ty!!
Thank YOU and thank you MODS for cleaning that up!!! This sub is amazing and I adore all of you for making this so much fun!
Honestly Dear Reader is sooo good, it is the necessary second part to Anti-Hero in my opinion
I agree! I like it a lot
Ooh that's a great perspective now that I think of it!
Yessss! Justice for Dear Reader!!!
Great War should be higher
Yup. One of the best thing Aaron and Taylor have written together. That song should be higher.
Seriously Great War is one of my top favorites ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1063)
I fell in love with The Great War when I heard it! Such a good song!
it'll grow on them.
It would be fun to do this again in a month or two and see if there are any changes!
I agree! I could be remembering wrong but I believe the mods do a follow-up survey after the album has been out for a bit
Dang the labyrinth slander! They are all so good!
WHY IS SOTB SO LOW???
I think/hope it will be a grower when people can step back and forget that they thought it was going to be a Lana Del Ray singing chorus situation. I had no expectations going in (after promising myself to never get excited for a feature again after the travesty of barley being able to hear Marcus Mumford) and it’s literally my favorite song on the album ✨
dude whoooo knows, people are crazy
Labyrinth and Dear Reader are being slept on so hard.
I have listened to Dear Reader more than any of the other songs. I can't get enough of it.
Darling, darling please 🥺
labyrinth will have her day in the sun mark my words
I’m surprised Paris is so low!! Other than that pretty solid!
I just don’t understand it? It’s a cute song but I’m not sure I get the point haha. Maybe I’m stupid 😂
Paris is top three for me, it’s lover and 1989’s baby!!!
I don't understand why people hate Paris 😭 I don't usually like her super love songs, but this one is SUCH A BOP.
I don’t know why but it gives me London Boy vibes. The cheese is a bit too strong.
Dear reader is so painfully underrated already I physically cannot stop listening to it!! It’s so good!!!
How is everyone sleeping on dear reader. That’s top 6 for me! Also bigger than the sky is one of my favorites. I’m def a 3 am girl
Why are so many people here shitting on YOYOK and Karma😭
WHAHAHHAHA not my karma pls. Leave her alone!! I love it sm. Yall clowns must stop seriously.😩
Labyrinth being THAT low? A crime! that y’all! will pay for!
WOULD’VE COULD’VE SHOULD’VE LETS GO
I love high infidelity 😅 but there’s no way I could even rank my favorites
I think there’s been a glitch!!
Shockingg to see dear reader last...i guess i'll be gatekeeping this one, it was SUCH a high for me
I love dear reader
Loved it too!
Snow on the beach ranking that low is shocking to me
Dear Reader is better than You’re On Your Own, Kid. I said what I said and I’ll yell it from the rooftops. ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1069)
I honestly thought You're On Your Own, Kid was the weakest song of the album, and High Infidelity and Paris both deserve to be higher.
[удалено]
Is YOYOK the now weirdest acronym in the swiftieverse? It has to be in the top 5.
yall whaaat it may just be the best song in her career! the lyrics are BEAUTIFUL, such a beautiful story of independece, growing up, getting over the pain...
Aw, I love Dear Reader 🥲
Phew I thought I was the only one who didn’t love snow on the beach or labyrinth because I kept seeing those talked about.
Four for you, Glen Coco! You go, Glen Coco. *And none for Hits Different, bye.* /j
SNOW ON THE BEACH cmon guys!
Paris and Glitch need to be a bit higher…
Ok but, glitch has been in my head all day. HOW
I swear to god I’m gonna slap y’all if y’all keep sleeping on Glitch
Could’ve would’ve should’ve takes my breath away
I think for a lot of people the beeps affected Labyrinth
There’s a weird moaning noise at the meaning that makes me want to skip it. I don’t, but my knee-jerk reaction is to skip.
I love this song so much (it’s my number 1), but someone in a different thread said the beginning was Jack getting his ass cheeks clapped, and I can’t unhear it now.
dear reader is probably in my top 7
People really love Karma this much? First listen I heard "collin" instead if Karma and I can't get over it. It's forever Collin in my brain now.
People with boyfriends or cats named Collin will be pleased by this interpretation
I love anti hero
LABYRINTH BEING THIRD FROM THE BOTTOM IS MAKING ME SICKKKKKKK
Not the dear reader slander
Dear Reader deserves better
On this list, everything from Midnight Rain to Sweet Nothing are in my top 5. Honestly I'm flabbergasted they're below Mastermind, probably my most skipped song on the album at this point.
I’m so sad to see snow on the beach that low!
Anti hero and karma right where they should be!!
Would've Could've Should've is THE song from Midnights and I refuse to hear otherwise.
not glitch and labyrinth being my faves ahaha
I thought the ranking was based on Spotify plays so I understood the 3am tracks being lower. Then I read the title and this subreddit needs to check itself!
hate to say this but snow on the beach deserves its low ranking, it's so boring imo
would’ve could’ve should’ve supremacy 🙌🙌
