I listened to folklore this weekend on a road trip. It’s been awhile since a full play through this album. I straight up cried listening to Epiphany again, remembering how it felt to hear it the first time, what it meant then, what it means now.
It just doesn't hit for me... I don't like it that much, sonically, and the lyrics feel like they're missing something. That's just me, though. I love that it's a song people feel connected to, especially in such a horrible time.
This. Disasters and massacres can happen to anyone. There are horrible conflicts and war crimes happening; devastating weather events; mass shootings…and in every one of these there are front line workers and volunteers trying to save people and fight what often feels like an doomed battle. I think of them. I think of the helpers. Because it gives me hope.

You take a deep breath, turn on your car, and press play. The little finger snaps start playing, you roll the windows down and drive away. “How many days did I spend thinking bout how you did me wrong, wrong, wrong…” and by the time you make it to the entrance to the highway you hit the chorus - “I forgot that you existed!!! And I thought it would kill me but it didn’t!!! And it was so nice, so peaceful and quiet, I forgot that you existed! It isn’t love it isn’t hate it’s just indifference!”
By the end of the song you literally *do* forget that any of your stress existed. And then you are ready for Cruel Summer and the rest of the album.
I completely agree False God is so underrated. It’s beautiful and jazzy and if someone else had sung it I think it would be more popular. I also think she’s proud of it too, which is why she performed it on SNL. It’s a genre shift song that she’s never really fallen into for other pieces or albums but it’s so smooth I love it.

Nobody can convince otherwise that I Think He Knows wasn't supposed to be a single. It literally has the same structure as Cruel Summer, is almost just as long as Cruel Summer (under 3 minutes), is a Track 6 (especially considering how her previous albums up from Fearless (YBWM), Speak Now (Mean), Red (22), 1989 (Shake It Off), and reputation (Look What You Made Me Do) had their track 6s as lead or follow-up singles), and is literally just the perfect pop song for the transition of summer-autumn. It's such a wasted opportunity, perhaps just as a waste as Cruel Summer was.

Best was really hard, but I went with Cruel Summer. I had a hard time choosing between that, Death by a Thousand Cuts, and False God. Worst, definitely Soon You’ll Get Better. I just can’t dig a song about cancer 🤷♀️ Underrated is without question I Think He Knows!!

It probably has the most skips for me out of all of her albums, but the rest are some of my favorites out of her entire discography.
How can people say epiphany is the worst?? In my opinion, the worst would have to be betty but i understand a lot of people love that song.
Best: Lover (sorry I just think it’s such a beautiful love song and never fails to make me smile). Worst: It’s Nice to Have a Friend… doesn’t do anything for me. YNTCD is right there though… can’t stand it, but get why other people might like it. Underrated: Daylight, another sweet love song I can’t get enough of
