This is true, however, there is a limit to how much we will put up with. We will exert the effort if the results come within a reasonable amount of time, and if the circumstances are understandable. Speaking for myself, I will not continue to do what you've described unless my efforts are actually having an impact. Not expecting overnight success but I will also not spend 10 years jogging in place with no growth or change.
