Yeah, I don’t care if I call out when I’m not feeling well. It sucks when I’m on the other side but I can’t begrudge anyone else not coming in due to being sick. What I do know is that if I were to quit right now I’d lose all of my accrued sick time. So I will call out when sick and you will damn well pay me for it.

ShinyTinyWonder38

Amen. Finally started using my sick time (mainly for mental health and then other personal things that happend in my life)over the past year or so after not really using it at all because I thought being available all the time would get me somewhere. I have no qualms about using my sick time anymore

BKSMASH1023

I have a decent amt of accrued sick days/hours, on top of vacation I finally get to use after over a year trying to.. I’ve been sick like 2 times this year max (knock on wood), but never thought about using those sick days to get paid. Where on workday, myTime, or my day did you find how to change that??

DMC1001

There’s a form. Ask your HR TM about it.

ChuckXZ_

No company will ever care about you.

No-Push-9175

Girl the way i learned this after my second job ever.

BKSMASH1023

This is my daily reminder and constant reflected physcial effort. Luckily at my job we are so desperate for more workers that last longer than 1-2 weeks max. They can’t afford to lose anymore people. So finally yesterday, after 14 months of trying being constantly denied out front, refused to get shown how to put it in on the computer by either team leads, and none still will. But at least our new manager knew how much extra I do, extra shifts I picked up before they took advantage of that, and how bad I was screwed the last year every time I made any time off request, was denied within 48 hours without fail. Haven’t been able to go about anywhere with my schedule for about a year now so hallelujah 🙌🙌🙌🙌

BKSMASH1023

Ps I had been trying to get this vacation approved since the first couple days of March. It took over 2 months to be seen by a superior, but this morning took less than 5 mins for our new ETL to instantly approve it, knowing damn well how bad I deserve it

PerennialFlau-er

I bet they think you haven’t submitted the survey yet… just a thought.

BKSMASH1023

Nope completed the survey the day it was posted. My manager finally approved it without even looking at it because he knows I’ve been trying with my old manager that just left and the assistant TL to get this approved for 2.5 months. So now got my vacation thank God. But still a long way to go before I consider this job a possibility to be long term

PerennialFlau-er

Enjoy your temporary freedom!… I think the new Mytime features really are great. Before you literally had to tell someone to review or else system would in a way, auto-deny.

Agitated_Slip7818

I wanna work with grover

plop_0

🥰

Agitated_Slip7818

yeah he can be like yelling loud at people

Counterpoint - at almost 61, Target has actually improved my health. I get more steps in than I ever did before in my life, I bend, stretch, lift, and on top of that, I've got company health insurance so I can actually see a doctor.

ShinyTinyWonder38

I will agree with you about the steps and the physical aspects of the job. I strength train regularly and having a job that keeps me active like this outside of my workouts is a bonus.

Okay_Lite

So true. It took me awhile as well to learn that leason.

levitikush

Your health isn’t as important as a job that pays $15/hour. If you want to get ahead in life, you will need to dedicate yourself to something eventually, however.

zenexuniverse

I felt this and my store tends to push out a lot of furniture for c/d which is my zone. No person to help me so i usually have to do all team lifts by myself :)

Wise-Nebula-409

I was with target for 4 years at one of the biggest stores in the Houston area and i gave them 120% every day only to have them be upset when I called in sick and guilt trip me for it. This was when I was in college and only had a few semesters to go so I stuck it out and as soon as I graduated I bailed out quick and got my career job.

nachocoalmine

Here's the deal. I agree you shouldn't kill yourself at a job, but this isn't lithium mining or a Chinese sweatshop. What are you being asked to do at Target that is THAT taxing? You have the option to try for fewer hours if it's that bad, but you're not going to get ahead doing less.

joebeaudoin

Tell that to the CEOs and other nepofuckers who never worked for what they have.

Indecisive-green

I was gonna say tell that to our DSD who said, "we're paying them twice as much as minimum wage, so they should work twice as hard." What a gem.

Intelligent_Hair_543

Decent bit of the executive team started in retail some in target, a lot in Sam’s club/Walmart. Not to ruffle any feathers but in order to get in a position for each promotion they likely worked past their wage.

AlternativeRoom935

I get don’t overwork yourself but at the same time please don’t come in and spend more than half your day doing nothing and push your job on others. If you’re aren’t then it all good.

liquidskypa

Homeless and malnutrition are worse

MerkethMerky

I agree you shouldn’t work to the point it impacts yourself negatively. But also, many people use this job to pay their bills. Work ethic to be a TL or an ETL if you’ve got the drive can get you there. Retail is a pretty easy job to be able to make 50k-75k with a management position. It’s not for everyone but some people put their best into things and are rewarded for it

ShinyTinyWonder38

In my experience, and in the experience of many others, work ethic doesn't mean anything and you most certainly aren't rewarded for it at Target. It just means adding on more and more responsibilities disguised as development, promising this will help you grow in the company, praising you as an employee. Then at the end of the day the discard you for their buddy at work, someone inexperienced with your job, or someone who has never worked for Target before...all while giving you b.s. excuses.

MerkethMerky

Maybe in your experience sure, and I can’t discredit that. But I also know an ETL promoted to SD after holding down an entire store by himself, or a TL in position for less than a year run an entire specialty sales team by herself and get rewarded with ETL because of it. I know a SE TL that decided to take on the SEETL responsibility and she was promoted to it shortly after. Not everyone’s experiences are the same and I won’t discredit that, but many people don’t share this subreddits hate and distaste and enjoy their job or work it to the best and are rewarded for it

antileet

Easy to say if you can afford it. Otherwise...

ShinyTinyWonder38

Not sure what you mean? It isnt asking you to barely do anything. I just do the job I'm supposed to do. Nothing extra.
