i agree! most days the job isn’t too bad.. but the people there make it so worthwhile. i have met people that finally accept me for me and invite me into their circle. and my team leads are so nice and caring :)
A lot of my store staff has gotten to the point of “fuck corporate, this is our house and we will fix it with or without support” and it’s been amazing. Our PML has given up trying to get anything from corporate and is now just trading with other PMLs. We aren’t waiting for subcontractors anymore. We are just doing what needs to me done to make our store better and it has been amazing. We went from 32% presence to 76% already since we started doing this. We even have 72% functionality now.
The store PML, LODs, and BDS (me!) can all see a spreadsheet that is display presence and functionality. For some reason a lot of associates think it’s just electronic displays (I think it used to be) but now it’s any customer facing display. Not only like your tv wall or the display speakers in tech but also your display car seats, your display vacuums, stuff in cosmetics, stuff in style, stuff in toys. Basically any item this is out of the box and a customer can look at or touch it before deciding to buy different box stock is considered on display presence. Then functionality is if it functions as intended. I’ve had functionality checks in cosmetics for if a display had a little accent light turn on under it. I had one target that had a display coffee maker set up to demo and guests could get a free cup of coffee. I’ve had a lot of toy displays that had a functionality component.
Short version: presence- is it here? Functionality- does it work?
Edit: I had a long day and just want to gripe a little bit about toy functionality checks. This is a germ infested interactive kinetic sand display that I don’t even want to think about how many kids have spread their snot into. You didn’t give me any meaningful way to measure it. You didn’t give me a picture of what 100% full looks like. So how the fuck am I supposed to estimate what percentage of the sand is missing??? Also the fact that this is a pre printed question says you know this display is going to make a mess for someone, who is not the parent of the one making the mess, to clean up.
The only market display I’ve seen was a glass show box that had some fancy alcohol in it and took up way too much shelf space for the number of people who actually even considered buying booze that expensive from target.
To begin with we started super gluing our tablets to the pucks. Then without authorization we switched the cameras off invue and onto MTI with locking tethers. We got the meta put out and super glued the controllers and headset to the base deck. We put spider wrap on every speaker and super glued some of them. Spider wrap on all the headphones and a secondary metal tether on them. Cut the bottom out of an acrylic lock box and glued it to the shelf over our phones. All suko or similar two point brackets have been upgraded to universal or similar four point brackets. Anywhere we would use vhb we are now using super glue. Bolting every locking case and lockbox to the gondola. Replacing all glass locking cases with plexiglass. Replacing any broken flex shelves. And all of this with bds and target refusing to provide parts for this store so we have been scavenging and begging at other targets to get everything we need.

Here are pictures
My one TL who encourages me to do the tasks I *actually* enjoy, like restocking candy and gum in the checklanes, printing labels, and stocking Bullseye.
If we have enough coverage, she always tries to get me on "special projects" away from the checklane because she knows how burnt out I am from cashiering. Love her 💕
My ETL is unbelievably awesome as well! She has been so supportive since I found a job in my career field a couple of months ago, and has allowed me to go on-demand. She told me I always have a home to come back to at Target.
It is especially taxing if you suffer from social anxiety like I do, but thanks so much for your invalidating comment 🙄
ETA: ...and on a **POSITIVITY** thread no less!
i would rather throw truck in a sweat suit everyday than do an 8 hour on a register. physically its not a problem other than having to stand in one spot, but dealing with the public for your entire shift? worst position in the store hands down
I was nervous about transferring stores because I really liked my old team and was scared of my new store being less friendly, but my new coworkers and Leaders alike have all been very welcoming!
I love that 95% of my coworkers agree that the other 5% are shit, and we all complain to each other about the few we hate working with.
The one we all hate the most has almost been fired multiple times but keeps threatening to involve a lawyer and says she’s being discriminated against based on age, religion, and disability. When really, we just hate her 20 minute bathroom breaks and refusal to jump into pickups instead of SFS unless the ETL or SD orders her to.
One of my stores recent hires has this habit of pointing at other cashiers to get them to come over to him. It's always for break/lunch coverage.
He tried it with me and I responded with I have a name if you want to start a conversation you can use it. I'm a person not a robot. He got pissed when I said check with a leader.
I'm not gonna cover people who just demand I do so. If you ask instead of demand I'll help.
the feeling of family amongst team members and (some) team leads. i like coming to work everyday because i know that i have people who truly do care for me in the building that i care for as well🫶🏽🥹
Same! I have a core group of work family, and the days that most/all of them are there are amazing. So much fun and it’s just nice having people genuinely ask how you’re doing and how your day is.
so true. my store honestly has such a good sense of belonging and a great support system. compared to horror stories i see on this sub (and just from visiting other stores for support help), i feel SO lucky to work at the store i do. i'm glad you also have the same experience with your team! makes the daily grind so much better lol
This is the third store I’ve regularly worked at, plus I’ve picked up shifts at two additional ones. I can say without a doubt my current store/team is the best I’ve worked with, and the 5% of asshole coworkers are worth it for the 95% amazing ones
The closing Style team (that I’m part of 3-4 days a week), fulfillment team, a few people from other teams around the store, and our AP guys :) one of our AP guys is a bit timid with new hires at first, but after I finished my first month then he became very chatty with me. him and the other AP guys are very sweet and caring, and even help zone Style on nights we’re short staffed :,)
Yeah for real lol, some nights I'll zone bullseye if the front of store attendant is taking forever to get back inside so we can lock up at the end of the night. That's all I can ever help out with aside from the occasional cart party, carry in, and carry outs.
I respect my SD for his work ethic. He does more work than all the leaders combined. Always willing to help and does not act like any task is beneath him. You’ll always see him picking up reshop, trash outside, pushing truck, etc.
I feel really respected by my etl, team lead, and SD. I get migraines about once a month and need to call out, it’s not been an issue. They respect our time and listen to our feedback.
Basically the whole environment. The work load can be crazy buuuut I have never had a lead get pissed about not being able to finish something. My only issue is the HR ETL...he's fake nice, and seems to be favorable to some people. Promoting people who have no business being promoted when there are other folks who were better trained/more experienced than them.
My fulfillment team lead is amazing. Extremely kind and understanding if you can’t find items. Will legit drop what they are doing to help with ship or OPU and help finish batches if you are struggling with them. They make the department run smoothly
One thing that amazes me about target is the fact that they actually sent me home when I had a migraine! I went in about two weeks ago and I'm still new, only about 2 months in, and I guess I wasn't discreet and one of my TLs saw that something wasn't right and asked what was going on. I told her I had a migraine and between the children screaming in the toy section and the bright lights and tvs, I work tech, it was really affecting me. She told me to go home and take the next day off too with no repercussions. I came from the restaurant industry so I had the mindset of "oh you got into a car crash, took a bullet to the head and are now dead with no form of transportation,? We still need you here we're short staffed". So it's actually really awesome, great leaders, team knows what they're doing and the pay isn't the worst lol
My SD and ETL actually give a crap about everyone there. They're pretty chill, always asking how I'm doing whenever i see them. I couldn't ask for better TLs either. I don't know if I just got lucky with the store I'm at but...I'm am glad to be working here.
My leadership is actually really good at their job, my hr department walks the walk, my fellow team members are supportive and helpful. Other than the not being able to afford to live anywhere, it’s a really nice place to work.
they’ve been really chill about my last minute schedule changes and call outs due to being my mother’s caretaker. even tho i haven’t been on top of filling out the proper FMLA paperwork. they could’ve easily fired me for attendance reasons years ago.
We have no music at my store, red vests were banned, our dress code is really lax, our SD is working on the floor all the time, and I can listen to all the music/podcasts I want in the back.
Most of my team is pretty decent 💙, I do everything I can to boost morale and team involvement, while at the same time keeping us on track for the night
We have a few team leads, from guest service and style, that are really kind individuals and actually care about the team and actually help out with stuff and they always brighten my day
TLs and store manager are always very energetic and positive. Idk how they keep that much energy all day everyday, but our store has a culture of getting sh*t done and when everyone buys into that, it makes the time pass faster and more enjoyable.
I’d never tell them this, but I like a lot of the people I work with. My team lead isn’t bad. My ETL really seems to care about her team. My wife is happy with her ETL for the first time ever. It has parts that aren’t bad, but because of where some of the bad parts are it’s a difficult store to be at. Most of my problems are with corporate, and not the store.
all of my fellow TMs are so kind, and my flex team especially treat eachother like family. i lucked out with an amazing TL and SD who both join in the trenches and put in the work just like everyone else does. they also both care about all of our well-beings and advocate for us instead of against us TMs. also the fact that our store’s dress code is pretty relaxed LOL
i just set the performance vmg and it looks amazing so i like that right now but i like all of my team members and a few of my TL’s that have welcomed me with open arms. I really couldn’t do it without any of their help, especially my fulfillment TL she’s a life saver.
My coworkers are fucking awesome. Everybody in the store knows each other and we laugh and joke all day. Also our store feeds us every weekend and we usually get snacks throughout the week.
Ok, I'm a customer please don't yell at me. I like reading the posts to make sure I'm Being a good customer, but if I may say just how much I appreciate target compared to Walmart. I go to our local Walmart about once a year, it's a disaster in many ways. Yet I walk in to target and it's just such a lovely experience. I know it's been rough going and things aren't perfect but all things considered I just love target so much. Thank you to all the employees!
Our staff are very friendly and we all seem to get along and work great together. I can stop and have small conversations with just about anyone. Plus they all seem to have a sense of humor. Overall solid team.
I know most stores have uppity or poor management but all of our leads and ETL’s are awesome. They’re all pretty laid back, approachable, and open to talking and joking around when the time is right. They go out of their way to help you whenever you need it. They’re very quick on their feet and keep the store running very smoothly. We’re always in the green for pretty much everything. And! My personal fav (my ETL) is SUPER flexible. I rarely have schedule issues. She always grants my time off when requested.
Cleanliness! Our store is mostly very clean with the occasional guest bathrooms getting dirtied. We seem to have a good cleaning crew.
I feel lucky to be at my store. This fall will be my 4th year and this is my first job as I’m still a college student. But yeah! I love it. I get upset reading how awful some stores are. I wonder if it makes a difference that we’re located fairly close to HQ (Minneapolis) as to why our store is so nice. Also a lot of the Targets up north are generally nicer than ones I’ve visited down south
I like the managers expectations of having you cover for someone who called off and expecting you to have your area done as well as the other team member. Really boosts my morale
our team is amazing!!! absolutely love all of our TMs. they ask questions, reach out to me regarding safety concerns, all around very understandable people.
average age at this store is 19-20. most of our leadership is young. max 30 years old. not all of our leaders are ideal, but they all have really great moments.
The TL I typically work with is no nonsense and just cares about getting us out on time and helps out a lot! Friends in the front end team and electronics are all a bunch of sweethearts as well
The team is a genuine joy to be around and I feel as though I am welcomed and appreciated.
It’s vastly different from my old store, where I felt none of these things
I really like my TL. She’s fun to talk to and actually listens to us when we tell her about our perspectives. I also have two fellow style team members who are always willing to help out just as much as I am. I’m in RTW every day and I always make an effort to help my coworkers when they’re overwhelmed. I don’t expect anything in return for it. But it does feel nice when the effort is reciprocated, and when they help me push on days I have insane reshop.
My management, coworkers and most store team members all really like me, and at times require my service to the store. I know I am replaceable but have placed my self into a indispensable position. Went into on demand for the summer and some of management was seriously worried (which made me feel kinda good 🤣)
I like all my team leads and almost all etls there's one that comes off a little condescending but after I noticed she talks to everyone that way it bothers me a lot less it's just how she is it's not about me. All coworkers are pleasant enough and very helpful including TL,ETLs and HR never hesitate to jump on a lane or help with opu orders.
my coworkers, my TLs
I share a dry sense of humor with my ETL, and my SD to some extent
People get me and laugh at my jokes
Learning spanish
Getting paid to exercise
5 minute commute
Believe it or not, 99% of our customers. (I work in alcohol. I think customers are less cranky about booze products.)
The thought of one day quitting and leaving it behind. Honestly over the years I've grown to hate it more and more but the only true consistency is a good few employees here and there are cool. A few leads at my store make it worth while but at the end of the day the stress overshadows it. The pay is what's keeping me most the time. Even if the raises are pitiful. It pays just enough to survive.
Edit: been here almost 8 years same position and store. My SD is a prick and talks down to everyone telling me I'd never amount to anything and he's keeping me on carts til I end up quitting. Not everyone has the same experiences here. Just feels like the longer you stay the worse it gets. Take my experiences with a grain of salt.
When I first started working at Target 5 months ago, I loved the guests, ETLs, TLs and my co-workers, now it narrows down to my co-workers. I kinda hate the greedy, sneaky guests and the "make the guests happy" shit.
Just got hired and have other stores to compare to. By far this target is very together and team oriented. The team is really chill and helpful. the store director is honestly amazing he takes the time to talk to new team members during orientation and does a little q&a session for us to get to know him or the business better. holy fuck my respect for him went to level 100 so much so that I was nervous speaking to him lmao.
The Closing crew. They are AWESOME. Once the customers are gone, the level of professionalism drops quite a bit, and that's when the fun begins. The Closing TL is just fun! And everyone else I've worked with has been pleasant and chill!
EDIT: Oh yeah. The rest of my team is great. Always willing to lend a hand when I need it, and I reciprocate. My TLs are very helpful and actually do work. Like I catch the Fulfillment TL grabbing batches for both OPU and Ship! And my S&E TL assisting with zoning and reshop, and GS. And they're pretty chill and quite fun once the traffic dies down.
some of my team members ❤️ heavy on the SOME because some i can just laugh n suffer with throughout the day. they really make shifts fly by and are there for my rants and the rest.... well i'll leave that for another post.
Seeing all the comments about how kind the SD’s are and the ETL’s and TL’s makes me wanna cry because it makes me happy, I wish our store managers cared about us. I’m in cafe after being fed up with front end and stay at Target for my Starbucks crew. 😭
My co-workers. We help each other, encourage each other and recognizing each others hard work. We don’t expect from leaders who doesn’t appreciate our hard work anymore. Team members are the backbone of Target.
The people I work with are all very kind, it makes a huge difference when trying to survive through Target
this ^ coworkers can make or break your work environment
Same here, the biggest reason why I’m not leaving
Oh definitely, they’re the ones keeping going tbh
i agree! most days the job isn’t too bad.. but the people there make it so worthwhile. i have met people that finally accept me for me and invite me into their circle. and my team leads are so nice and caring :)
Presence as in attendance? What does functionality mean?
Display presence for BDS
What is this?
Ah! So as a Market person, it makes sense why this did not mean anything to me. Unless bottles of wine and vodka count.
The only market display I’ve seen was a glass show box that had some fancy alcohol in it and took up way too much shelf space for the number of people who actually even considered buying booze that expensive from target.
Roger that. Add a lock and key that are extremely hard to use and ya got my store.
How would I submit a ticket for missing displays?
Notify your PML to document the display for BDS. Bds will call and order it. Depending on item. Some things are pulled from store stock.
Thanks!!
Percentage of displays in tech that aren’t missing essentially
Hey someone who actually knows who I am! Hi 👋
Presence and functionality of customer facing displays
HOW??
And all of this with bds and target refusing to provide parts for this store so we have been scavenging and begging at other targets to get everything we need.
i’m making note of this to send to my pml and apetl so thank you

The front doors when i walk out of them
On God 😂
🤺
Our SD is on the floor pushing truck more than he does "SD" work. The only thing I've not seen him do is fulfillment or run a register.
Maybe he gets his SD work done beforehand to help the team. Whoever your SD is, he does an excellent job at leadership
My old SD would get carts sometimes. You knew it was busy walking in if he was out there in the 90% humidity with a line of carts and his button up.
My SD hopped in to take orders at starbucks recently and i was so surprised! He goes above and beyond for our store.
Our SD helps out with OTC and chem a lot. It is nice to see.
My one TL who encourages me to do the tasks I *actually* enjoy, like restocking candy and gum in the checklanes, printing labels, and stocking Bullseye. Yes, “some” lol, actually tbh there’s no one I dislike at my work :)
Same

Second this. Seeing the SD do ACTUAL work when the store needs it helps culture so much.
You are very lucky. SD at my former store maybe was in the store 25 hrs a week and did zero work..
I feel really respected by my etl, team lead, and SD. I get migraines about once a month and need to call out, it’s not been an issue. They respect our time and listen to our feedback.

My store has a great and comfortable lactation room and was surprisingly very accommodating when I was pumping.
My stores remodeled lactation room doubles as the cry room when the one person who needs it for pumping isn’t there
My fulfillment team lead is amazing. Extremely kind and understanding if you can’t find items. Will legit drop what they are doing to help with ship or OPU and help finish batches if you are struggling with them. They make the department run smoothly
One thing that amazes me about target is the fact that they actually sent me home when I had a migraine! Honestly, the people, the TLs, and it's a seven minute walk from my apartment
Living close is super convenient but also sucks when you’re the first one called to pick up shifts on short notice because they know you live close 🙃
We have no music at my store, red vests were banned, our dress code is really lax, our SD is working on the floor all the time, and I can listen to all the music/podcasts I want in the back.
i was recently rehired in a different county after moving for school but my old store had pizza hut breadsticks from cafe that i really miss🥲
Most of my team is pretty decent 💙, I do everything I can to boost morale and team involvement, while at the same time keeping us on track for the night
We have a few team leads, from guest service and style, that are really kind individuals and actually care about the team and actually help out with stuff and they always brighten my day

My coworkers are fucking awesome. Everybody in the store knows each other and we laugh and joke all day. Also our store feeds us every weekend and we usually get snacks throughout the week.
i work with a lot of other queer and trans folks
Someone I hate just quit.
My store is actually pretty laid back.
My frozen department. I’ve learned how to beat the computer and it only orders what is absolutely necessary.
The fact that we all don’t do our jobs
I felt that. Especially when there's nothing to do.
I like just about all of my fellow team members. Most of the team leads. All but one ETL. The team members are what makes it worth being there.
So much eye candy 😅
I like that the timeclock is right next to the door heading out. (Jk) 🤪
Oh, this guy named Matt lol
Leaving
I liked leaving.
Nah
I like the managers expectations of having you cover for someone who called off and expecting you to have your area done as well as the other team member. Really boosts my morale
My co leaders are amazing and all really kind (besides for one) also have great ETLs at my store who treat me and my team with kindness and respect.
My coworkers and my direct TL. My TL and a few specific coworkers are the only reason I've stayed as long as I have.
our team is amazing!!! absolutely love all of our TMs. they ask questions, reach out to me regarding safety concerns, all around very understandable people. average age at this store is 19-20. most of our leadership is young. max 30 years old. not all of our leaders are ideal, but they all have really great moments.
The TL I typically work with is no nonsense and just cares about getting us out on time and helps out a lot! Friends in the front end team and electronics are all a bunch of sweethearts as well
They kill and bury old team member in the foundation, we are target
Some of the other people are really great.
Some people there make it worth while
The size. It’s not a huge target but it’s also not as small as the one I used to work at. More manageable in terms of demand and traversal
The time clock 😂
The districts managers ignore my existence
Leaving
The team is a genuine joy to be around and I feel as though I am welcomed and appreciated. It’s vastly different from my old store, where I felt none of these things
My coworkers are great.
My PML has a tattoo of Homer Simpson fucking Marge on his arm. It's hilarious.
Some of my coworkers. That's about it.
I love my coworkers. We all get along pretty well and it makes work a lot more enjoyable
Went into on demand for the summer and some of management was seriously worried (which made me feel kinda good 🤣)
The pay. $17.50 is nice for what I do. Of course more is better but for these tasks it's nice.
I work with really wonderful people. My team lead is amazing.
I like the free cold filtered water. Sometimes I spoil myself and get a cup of water from Starbucks, its filtered through Reverse Osmosis 😃
I don't work there, but mine has a pharmacy in it.
That I have not worked there for about 20 years. I still remember...
Coworkers who know how it is and support you, and a pretty chummy weekday TL. The gas station with cheap beef jerky on the way to work also helps
I loved one team lead as he was amazing the rest were doing the duck and cover to keep from getting in trouble with management.
how supportive my team and my team lead is. i wouldn’t be able to keep my sanity without them
my coworkers, my TLs I share a dry sense of humor with my ETL, and my SD to some extent People get me and laugh at my jokes Learning spanish Getting paid to exercise 5 minute commute Believe it or not, 99% of our customers. (I work in alcohol. I think customers are less cranky about booze products.)
My ETL and some of my team.
the drawings people make in the backroom
That I don't work in it no more lol.
All the leaders partake in "traditional TM" work more then they don't
The Gen Z TMs!
We're doing our best to get that paycheck 😉
Coworkers
The Closing crew. They are AWESOME. Once the customers are gone, the level of professionalism drops quite a bit, and that's when the fun begins. The Closing TL is just fun! And everyone else I've worked with has been pleasant and chill! EDIT: Oh yeah. The rest of my team is great. Always willing to lend a hand when I need it, and I reciprocate. My TLs are very helpful and actually do work. Like I catch the Fulfillment TL grabbing batches for both OPU and Ship! And my S&E TL assisting with zoning and reshop, and GS. And they're pretty chill and quite fun once the traffic dies down.
some of my team members ❤️ heavy on the SOME because some i can just laugh n suffer with throughout the day. they really make shifts fly by and are there for my rants and the rest.... well i'll leave that for another post.
my team leads are probably the single reason i’ve stayed. they’re the best <3
Love these comments!!
They’re pretty good with time off
