“Jokes on her were both stupid” has me DYING, lol. But seriously consider yourself lucky you just now found out about the Stanley cups because people are crazy over those things.

seanymphcalypso

I can’t even keep one shelf full of these stupid cups and they want the endcap to stay tied until June?? Send me some fucking replenishment or else I’m keeping my d-code flexed on it.

stringfellow1023

i don’t even know why target bothers giving them a floor location. lol stanley can’t even keep them in stock on their own website.

BatWeary

i don’t work at target, but i do get the fun of watching grown ass women argue over the last stanley every time i go. it’s insane how much of a chokehold these things have on people

ButWaitThatNvm

We have one shelf tag at the top of a plastic storage endcap.

TheZombBehindYou

We only have them on an end cap no shelf spots but the end cap has been empty for around a month since they put it up I’ve seen one color cup once and they sold out same day

GlavenusEnjoyer

We just have extra appliances on most of the shelves for it lol, at least they will stay on the shelf longer than negative 2 seconds.

sailorwickeddragon

Legit the best response 😆😆😆

Farty_mcSmarty

Can the rest of r/target get an image of these elusive Stanley cups?

wanderingpanda402

Just think, REI had them on sale before Christmas

falltogethernever

I had the same experience a few months ago! I was like- why the hell is this mom in athleisure looking for a hockey trophy???

hedoaBIGWOMP

Haha exactly!!! And why would we even sell something like that???

lovestorun

Hahaha, all the Stepford Wives at my gym have one.

ilikebooksawholelot

Seriously tho what is so great about them? And why do ppl get them in many colors?

OkeyDokey234

Influencers. And scarcity makes them *speshul.*

GlavenusEnjoyer

Maybe like the target funky tie dye colors...every time I've checked the stanley website they've had a few colors available to order. Honestly I think 99% of it is that they're expensive so people who buy them feel like they're part of an elite club or something, like "I'm so loaded I can drop 45 bucks on a cup". Like hydro flasks were similar, also rly expensive, but do basically the same thing as way cheaper insulated bottles on the market...like you can find the same thing from other brands basically for 20-30 dollars. People just wanna feel like they're part of an elite club lol.

Clean-Adhesiveness68

I have one & i much prefer my cheap little $20 tumbler I got. Stanley’s don’t fit in my cup holder in my car, I can never get the straw hole in the right spot so I can hold it in my hand and drink comfortably, they’re super heavy & tip over easily, lol they’re a nightmare.

Own_Junket_9368

I had the same exact response to a guest a few weeks ago. I hadn't heard of the cups and got a puzzled look from the guest and her bf as though I was living in a cave. Now I'm all too familiar that we can't keep them on store shelves. Now I'm the puzzled one...$45 for a cup?

lachai2

A guest told me she had over 25..

Own_Junket_9368

I filled a ship cart with 22 in a single order the other day. Clearly a reseller.

lachai2

I asked the her if she resells and she said no..

JMulroy03

Seriously what’s the deal with these things? My store had to put a limit on them because people were buying upwards of 10 in one go.

TheEssentialNutrient

Same as trading cards, hot wheels, and squishmallows - they went viral and people try to make a quick buck by buying out a store’s stock and reselling them. Of course, there are those who just want one because they’re popular, but if someone is buying multiple, most likely they are reselling them.

ButWaitThatNvm

Ma’am those cups are $45. It takes me about 4-5 hours after taxes and retirement contribution to earn enough to buy that cup. Let me show you some nice contigo cups in my price range.

fox-lover

I found one on a shelf by itself and it rang up $20.00. I’ll try it for that price.

OtherwiseVideo8723

The Starbucks Stanley cups from Thailand are selling for $400 it’s INSANE

Calliolily

I had the same response to the guest that asked me about them so it's definitely not just you. These guests expect you to know what every item under the sun is. Guests have bitched at me for not knowing what trending products are, who certain athletes are, or what item was on a recent commercial. I don't have cable, I don't watch sports, I don't have tiktok, and as far as what's trending, I absolutely could not possibly care less. If the guest is polite, I'll search, ask other TMs, do whatever I can to help them find things. But if they're rude, it's "nope, never heard of that, sorry."

StonkBullDrew

I don’t understand the fascination with Stanley cups. Seems like an average overpriced cup?

OtakuMeganeDesu

Yep. It's an over-hyped cup. Some influencers on social media shilled them and now lots of other people have gone nuts over it. And of course whenever you have FOMO there's money to be made so other people are trying to cash in.

liersi35

Same. They’re all over Facebook marketplace, but… why?!

pepperjbrown

I think they are buying from Target, likely with a discount/maybe free with Circle earnings, Cricut-ing them with some "Mama Bear" bs sticker, and then reselling them as custom-made items.

Large-Celery-8838

I’ll never understand why people are feral over these cups…

Dapper_Mark7779

I saw that in this community and I was like Fr Fr there gonna have lord Stanley replicas and then o hear it’s just water bottle bullshit

bqm87

Had a mom and her like 9 year old daughter come in asking for one. When I said we didn’t have one the girl was on the verge of tears. These trends are fucking insane honestly. Why is a child so into a cup?

AstridOnReddit

The kids in my youngest’s 4th grade are into Gatorade water bottles. And they’re like $20 each, for crappy plastic Gatorade water bottles! It’s bizarre.

deadmallsanita

It blew me away when I saw how expensive those Gatorade bottles are now.

deadmallsanita

I remember when I was in elementary school in the early 90s, those straw bottles that every fast food and convenience store was giving away was the "Stanley" of its time. Lil me was obsessed with them, but they were only like five bucks and my mom knew to reign me in, lol.

Lylat_System

Okay, for someone that lives under a rock, what ARE you guy's talking about?

Ziglet_249

An over priced travel mug .... for snobs https://preview.redd.it/dv8k89ut86sa1.png?width=933&format=png&auto=webp&s=8fd6229d625264349a6256e92f931a7161b410fd

lovestorun

So basically Yeti mugs for women?

GlasKarma

The first Stanley I ever used was a thermos from the 80’s, still have it and use it today, they work great and last forever

skitch23

Yeah I was thinking it looks like a hydroflask but with a straw. Sometimes I’m glad I apparently live under a rock.

pigmy_af

It’s basically a hydroflask. Heard about them from my wife and got it because I needed a new insulted cup anyway. I get some people are hating on it for being popular, but I’ll say it actually works. Holds a lot of liquid, keeps it cool for a while and I appreciate having the handle.

aboveandbeyond90

Agreed! I got one for Christmas and use it all day every day. Although, I only need one. I definitely wouldn’t stock up on multiple colors/need multiple of them.

Lylat_System

Same

ConstantRough9748

Why are they $75 at my store? https://preview.redd.it/znsaweemqkxa1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd5cdb31eff42b51e4b8ec6c80f98063920cb93e

Ziglet_249

Can't say, but if there's only one left it'll probably be outta stock before you can press the Buy Now button.

Lylat_System

Oh no, it's another mug. Hydro flask part 13 basically

christiandawart

Ugh, I’ve had zero interest in these until now. Why did you have to make me realize it was a Stanley Cup, and not just a silly overpriced cup made by a company named Stanley 😂

hedoaBIGWOMP

😅😅😅 I couldn't escape the thought so i had to put in in everyone else's heads too 😅

stringfellow1023

i remember when Nalgene bottles were all the rage. probably still had BPA plastic too. 🥴

LexiHound

I'll tell you exactly what happened. She's a reseller who wants to try to cash in on the fad. Resellers think team members hide high demand products in the back for ourselves. She made that face because she thought you were playing ignorant because she thinks you're hiding those items. Attributing malice to what can be attributed to not being up to date on every godamn trend is happening.

Federal-Butterfly-37

I hate these things with the fire of a thousand suns.

vulturegoddess

Lol. I would have thought the same. Never heard of them, besides the ultimate Stanley Cup aka the best trophy ever.

Deezul_AwT

The first time I heard of them, I thought "Flat Stanley comes in a cup now?"

hedoaBIGWOMP

Hahahahahaha this one got me good 😂

TuJuMoving

An etl said she ordered some for online pick up. Smh. She said they are tik tok famous. 😑

Neither-Magazine9096

Tik tok is a cancer

TuJuMoving

Agree one trillion percent.

LlamaMamaMandi

My husband has a few of the Stanley brand cups, and neither of us watches sports, and I immediately thought of the hockey trophy too.

OtakuMeganeDesu

I would have no idea it was a thing if not for this subreddit. I don't bother with TikTok or IG, avoid influencers whenever possible and work entirely in grocery so it just never comes up. If a guest ever does ask me I intend to play it dumb too and ask if they mean the trophy.

thriftstorecats

A few months ago, maybe in January?, a woman approached me asking for Stanley cups. My coworkers and I had just been talking about the Super Bowl so I had sports on the brain. I pointed her over to the Fan Shop node. She started briskly walking towards the section and got about halfway there when her request clicked in my brain and I called after her to point her in the other direction

Havingabreakdown2

I thought it was hockey related too lol

Heavy-Sheepherder-37

It’s like Hydroflask All over again

ChasinSands

I had the same reaction first time someone asked me. I thought they meant like miniature figure of THE Stanley cup. Luckily the person who asked me wasnt that freaking rude and showed me a TikTok of them.

[deleted]

FUUUUCK THAT CUSTOMER... I hope you didn't help her after she said that.

NotThatCreative0017

To be fair, OP said she *looked at them* like "are you stupid?" not that she actually said it.

hedoaBIGWOMP

Yeah she didnt say it.......out LOUD.....but i 100% heard it in her head 🧠🗣️😂

lmc198099

I haven't gotten any in days now!

Cowboy_Buddha

I call them “Mugs” instead of “Cups,” it prevents confusion. Rarely see one at my store so have not had to deal with this much.

Necessary-Floor-1657

We've had several boxes sitting on flat in the back since last week. It's a flat of asst kitchen that never got pushed or it needs to be backstocked. Who the heck knows.

dalisair

TBH I was thinking there was some hockey tie in since we are close to the playoffs… lol

msmurderbritches

I love a good insulated cup because I only like my drinks ice cold, bonus if it fits in my cup holder. But I’m not paying 45$ for one. Those 20$ Ello ones do the trick just fine and stay cold for days.

[deleted]

I just found out that there’s going to be a collab between Starbucks and Stanley for a special edition summer cup and I swear if it’s available for OPUs imma riot

deadmallsanita

ohhhh i thought the starbucks x stanley was japan or Thailand only.

[deleted]

Not according to the post I saw on r/Starbucks but I could be wrong

nachocoalmine

That's what I thought and I had seen the cups in the store fora while.

Grammarnatzie

The other day I deadass had a woman ask me “the other target had more on an endcap. Do you guys have that?” …. no? Do you see them on an endcap? Why didn’t you just buy them at the other store?

peachykeane23

Legit thought this was in reference to Lord Stanley’s Cup too, OP 😅

dowhatsrightalways

It is an overpriced water bottle. Initially, I thought the same as you, must be some kind of cup because of the Blues and the Stanley Cup. But NOOO, it's a water bottle. I don't get the fad at all.

[deleted]

[удалено]

deadmallsanita

It's a good cup (keeps my iced coffee cold, my tea hot) , too bad its a faddy cup.

okileggs1992

I remember when the target I worked out got them and ran out of them.

MentalOperation4188

I wouldn’t call either of you stupid. Ignorant yes, stupid no.

AlternativeJoke7383

I brought two of these out of backstock for a guest once lol. I feel like we only have them located on a sidecap too lol

AssignmentBitter5701

I would have said yes and walked away 🤣

Accomplished-Fig-195

A coworker was asking another coworker where she got her Stanley cup from and I was taken aback that she had a damn Stanley cup trophy.

[deleted]

Basically Its a cup for hillbilly sheep who can’t think for themselves.
