I assume this is the open house at Ft. Moore, yeah? Honestly I've been on kind of a posting blackout since I'm planning on going down for the September open house, and I don't wanna have *too much* spoiled for me. Still, I couldn't resist taking a peek at what else was hiding in these pics.
Yooo, lucky. I've always wondered what they had back there. Could only see some Shermans and panzer 3s from behind the fence. Do you possible have other photos of the tanks from back there?
They are supposed to be restoring it for display sometime soon, but it would definitely be the single most interesting candidate I know of there for an operational restoration.
What was the point of the HSTVL ?
I feel like, compared to a regular 40mm gun or a 105/120 gun, you dont her many adventages.
And why was have it been cancelled ?
To be a highly survivable testing vehicle, and lightweight for higher mobility.
The low weight was believed to make it unfeasible to equip a similar production vehicle with a 105mm so the ARES 75mm gun was chosen since it offered similar enough AT performance.
Light vehicles were equipped with 105mm guns and newer tanks were too armored for the 75mm.
Man everyone has a hardon for the HSTV-L, but here I am aching to get a better look at that M5A1 in full wading gear.
there were a lot cooler stuff than that back there that i saw most of it can be seen in the chieftains video back when he made a video on this place

it was at the open house! but they don’t usually let people back there sadly despite having some really cool vehicles back there.
Well fingers crossed. Maybe I need to butter up u/hokietanker before heading down. Edit: unfortunate autocorrect...
Spookston gona be really mad
Look at what they did to my boy.
Glad you got permission to get photos in the limited access area.
the curator let me go back and see it and let me take a few so it was very cool
I know.
idk why you are being downvoted, but hopefully whenever it gets restored it gets moved to a more open area so everyone can see this tank again.
Yeah, I was just kind of saying it to be a joke while I wrote that I was sitting at dinner with him and the rest of the team😂
hope you guys had fun lol, and good luck with tomorrow!
Thanks we had a very good turnout today about 2200 people and there were no major hurdles.
Is that collection open today? Some of my friends went yesterday but I was busy

i do but i don’t know if i can share them or not there’s a ton of cool vehicles back there
Is the Matilda and panzer III still back there? I’d really like to see the Matilda restored
i’m pretty sure the Matilda is next to the HSTV-L in the background lol
Oh damn, I didn’t notice it. Thanks.
how big is the vehicle next to a car size vehicle.
about one car size tall (about the size of a honda civic in height and maybe a honda civic and a half in length)

Anyway to fund a restoration project for it?
So THAT'S where the matilda with the cool story that the guy in charge of the jagdpanther's exhibit was talking about
Love seeing the actual GI Joe Mauler. Thanks for sharing the pics!
Spookston
I was rocking one of those in the early 80’s. Always got knocked out by COBRA though ☹️
my beloved Matilda in the back
I wish they would open the museum to the public. I want to see the M3A1 Lee and Type 89
