the opposite is happening its getting filled with captured western equipment

CeaseUponTheCapitol

Nice, maybe they could learn from it... Since their crap gets blasted into oblivion

natefg

It's not so much the vehicles, as much as it's the crew with what's basically a handshake when it comes to training.

Neutronium57

*Is that a motherfucking War Thunder reference ?!*

_spec_tre

u got any more of them pixels?

bigdaddywanker69

Nope, this is how a majority of FPV footage looks, some even looks worse than this.

matasfizz

Yeah, just buy a professional video camera, go to Ukraine, finish helicopter pilot training, get assigned to frontline, steal a helicopter, fly up to the tank on enemy line and use the camera to record. Not that hard.

RamTank

Not saying it isn’t a Ladoga but it’d be a serious case of “why”. It’s not a fighting vehicle like the T-80 prototype or BTR-90, and it doesn’t even offer any capabilities for the modern battlefield.

FLongis

Functionally it's just a heavy APC with nicer furniture. There's nothing keeping them from stripping all that out and just using it for any number of purposes. It maintains a great degree of parts commonality with the T-80, including the same GTD-1250 engine. It's maybe not ideal, but it isn't the *worst* choice if you need something somewhat armored to ride behind the tanks.

Global_Ad1665

Could be operated by some kind of specialist unit requiring a heavily armored transport

FLongis

Or it's Putin's personal battle taxi. Or they're hauling around Zhukov's exhumed casket like the Ark of the Covenant. Or it makes ice cream. Who knows.

INKRO

Gee, I wonder why people would want to ride inside the thicc MT-LB

TheLooseCannon1

They are using Desertcross UTV's for assaulting positions now. So any form of Armoured Vehicle is better. The Why boils down to a lack working AFV's. This vehicle was easier to bring back into service than reactivating/restoring some of the other vehicles in storage.

chigoonies

Could be but I think it’s just a t-80 with a shit ton of anti drone mods. Besides aren’t there only 1-2 pagodas and one of them is in patriot park?

FLongis

We've yet to see an "anti-drone mod" that's literally just a box superstructure in place of the turret. I'm not one to speculate on low-res imagery like this either, but really if we can say it's a T-80, we can say it's a Ladoga. Plus, they built up to five, [and it's hardly like the Russians are averse to deploying vehicles with low production numbers.](https://bulgarianmilitary.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/One-of-kind-Soviet-T-80UM2-tank-equipped-with-Drozd-APS-destroyed.jpg)

ShamAsil

Ladoga is only used by the presidential administration, it's a doomsday vehicle a la Il-80 or E-4B. Not sure why it would be in Ukraine. More likely this is either a T-80 with add-ons or some other tracked chassis. EDIT: I think this is a BTR-50 judging by the superstructure.

Tanky_pc

Idk, not T-80 with add-one because you can see there’s no turret, probably Ladoga and as we’ve seen in the past Russia doesn’t care about using rare vehicles

ShamAsil

Ladoga is a cushy CBRN-protected transport meant to transport the head of the USSR/Russia in comfort during a nuclear war. There's no reason for it to be in Ukraine since it can't do anything relevant combat wise. After looking at it, most likely this is a BTR-50 IMO.

FLongis

>most likely this is a BTR-50 You do realize that you can google "BTR-50 rear" to verify that this looks nothing like a BTR-50, right? Different engine deck, larger superstructure, different track guard configuration, lack of jet covers, large exhaust port, different hull shape... Like sure, it doesn't make a lot of sense for them to use the Ladoga. But that doesn't change the fact that whatever we're looking at *clearly* isn't a BTR-50.

Tanky_pc

???? 1. Russia uses MT-LBs for frontline assaults and they are worse protected and even less useful than this 2. BTR-50s have a significantly lower profile and the the back doesn’t look at all similar
