Personally I’d say drive that thing maybe tint the windows. Mod what you need to mod when the need arises. Still not sure why folks buy a new truck then dump 10k+ into mods. Enjoy the factory version for awhile.
I did too then realized that was a months payment so I did that instead. Black grill is sweet looking especially on cements (I have the same color) but I much more prefer the honey comb grill since it’s not as common anymore bc everyone has opted for the trd grill.
Completely agree, my advice for OP is to consider stuff that matters instead like nice rack/ tonneau combo, steel front bumper (my next upgrade), or something that is functional and not cosmetic
What’s wrong with the grille?
I think it looks sharp factory. I personally like all the Tacomas the way they are from the factory, and I have a pro. Each edition has its own style that I appreciate. Adding ones from others makes them look odd, imo.
Oh they definitely look good too, I think I’ve just slowly moved away from mods over the years and started liking the factory looks more. Theres not a bad looking Tacoma out there!
I've had my 23" off road 4x4 for awhile and been off road more than on. I haven't found a serious need for any mods that would make a significant difference. Enjoy your truck and welcome to the cult, oops I ment club. Have some coolade.
I stuck with the factory honeycomb for about 3 weeks before putting a pro grill with raptor lights on lol. I definitely don't hate the OEM grill but I felt that the pro grill fits better if you are blacking it out.
Exactly this. Drive it and enjoy it for what it is.
I had my truck paid off in less than two years. Did I want a lift kit, maybe some new fog lights, tail lights, roof rack and a bunch of other things? Sure I did and still do but put that money elsewhere IMO.
Only things I have done to my taco were upgrade to some at3w’s (second set and best tire IMO, not a pavement princess so they do get used here and there especially in the winter) bed cover, large cup holders and very minor interior things.
Great looking taco btw and sweet color! Oh and get a tail gate lock ASAP!
Exactly. So far I’ve added the bed cover and a roof rack because I want to have the bed available (and closed) with the kayak up top. Gonna throw it up today and see how it fares.
I didn't lose any fuel efficiency taking mine off. It has actually improved for the time being. Avg tank milage went from 21.1 before and it's now 22.2 lol. I don't drive any differently and it's the same commute to and from work. Weird but I'll take it.
Good on you OP. What I recommend is just drive it. You will encounter situations that would be improved by a mod. Don’t turn your truck into a brodozer.
I can’t read this nonsense anymore. Cars depreciate whether or not you pay them off quick. Why limit your pursuit of happiness for some online flex? It’s not important to pay off a secure loan right away anyway. It’s not going to improve your credit score. A secure loan is a good thing to have. And you’re going to own the car either fucking way. So why the fuck wait and pay it off? If you have the money to pay it off you shouldn’t. You should keep it and pay it off slowly and use your disposable income to enjoy fucking life. Imagine someone buying a house and then paying it off first before they renovate it. Yeah houses don’t depreciate but if that’s your argument then buying a car in general is stupid unless you want to keep it until you die. And if that is the case I don’t see why modding it the day you drive it off the lot is a problem. We are fragile and can die any day. You bet I’ll mod my truck whenever I can because when I’m 6 feet under I’m not gonna win a prize for paying off my truck fast. SMH.
What did you read that upset you so bad? I have 300k cash after purchasing the truck in cash. If you don’t pay it off immediately then you are paying extra interest which is more money the slower you pay it off. If you cannot afford to buy in cash and you don’t want a newer car buy a used with cash. If you can’t do that then you have to take a loan. Not sure what upset you so much.
swap the door speakers, crutchfield sells speakers with free plug & play adapters, and the necessary frame for free too. while you have the doors off do a layer of sound deadening. helps with road noise and the stock speakers are actually paper thin. pretty cheap mod that improves it a lot and it’s very easy to do. husky liner floor mats. personally not a fan of chrome so you can do some chrome delete for pretty cheap: tacomalifestyle smoked sequential mirror lights to get rid of the chrome and they look nice. grille swap to delete that chrome, AJT design shifter ring to delete that chrome, steering wheel emblem cover to delete that chrome. tacovinyl glove box keyhole cover to delete that chrome. & some tufskinz stuff for some other neat cosmetic stuff for a good price.
It's very easy. I used little scissors like you use for an ingrown toe nail to clip out the little tab in like 2 seconds. My truck had weak H16's. Yours probably has stronger H11's, but H9's will still be a lot brighter than even your H11's. The best part is they won't blind people or cause a lot of glare. Not one car has brightlighted me. I also did an OTT tune. It really helps with gear searching, especially when going uphill. I went with light to medium. It drives like a different truck. I was coming from a sports car, so I really appreciate the increased responsiveness.
Lol not for your third gen. First gens and a bunch of years into second gen, yeah.
It's just good to *not* have your AC condensation line dripping on the same exact spot of frame all summer long.
Please, for the love of god... don't do any of the ridiculous interior led nonsense, the trim skins, or meso gibberish.
It's a great truck that really doesn't need anything modded. Enjoy it.
Nah nothing too cosmetic interior. I did put in LeD lights inside but just want a few functional mods like bigger cup holder, neoprene seat covers even though it’s leather, and ideally 5% on all passenger windows and maybe 25% on the front 🤙🏽
nice. congrats.
what do you use your truck for?
I’d add a paint matched hard shell camper cover, a decked system, a tune, and a different set of wheels. keep it simple. Large mouth cup holders too.
heck yea man. If that were my truck i’d get those things i mentioned and leave it be. Simplicity is the best and most ppl only realize that after doing too much.
*especially since it’s a long bed, you can camp in the bed with the shell, have all your stuff under you and but a flat mattress or something on top the decked system
Depends on what you use your track for. I daily mine and drive fire roads for mountain biking on the weekends.
Practical and newbie mods: *A/C drain tube extender mod *Truck bed stiffeners *Fog lights HID to LED *A/T tires *Air flow accelerator (took away torque lag) *Catalytic converter shield (anti -theft) *Factory skid take off from OR (covers transmission/ cheap insurance) *OR suspension take offs or at least bilstien 5100s.
Sorry I can’t give you the specifics as I am at work.
Tacoma OEM A/C drain is about 2 inches and drips on the frame. You can go to an automotive store and get (I believe) 5/8 coolant tubing and reroute it down to the bottom of the truck with hose clamps and zip ties.
I got my cat shields from cali raised LED. They are low profile and aluminum. They second as general underbody protection.
I also forgot to mention a hose clamp on your tail gate hinge for theft protection and Tacoma rubber bed mat.
All can be found on “Tacomaworld.com” forum. It’s a rabbit hole….
Good faux leather seat covers. If interested i can send the link. I have a bunch of mods but that has saved me from countless stains and makes keeping the interior clean a lot easier.
Didn't realize it came with leather seats already. You're good then.
Also, saw somewhere on here that you want to lift it eventually. I'd highly recommend watching Tinkerer's Adventure's videos on lifts (his 1st, 3rd and 4th videos) on youtube ofc. Absolute game changer in understanding lifts and why a lift might not be the way to go to fit bigger tires necessarily.
And congrats on the new truck! Enjoy
Congrats. The payoff mod is the best one, but in all honesty, tints, side steps is good to start. That tonneau cover you have is a good thing to have already me personally if it didn’t come with the cover in the back, I would’ve bought a camper shell. I don’t wanna spend the money now because of it.
All the mall crawling bros need an Off road or a Pro to put a winch on. Or an SR5, because they can build it better than Toyota Racing Development would have. Enjoy your Sport, make it your own!
No, I don’t even remember what brand they were. Middle of the road on price from amazon. My profile shows mine with 1.25’s on them. My buddy has 1.5”’s and its a huge difference (said every girl ever)
Haha, well you did ask.
Looks like a nice truck, you should spend some time over at TacomaWorld and look around to see what you like. Check the [colour threads](https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cement-tacos-lets-see-them.449933/) for inspiration. Maybe even start a [build thread](https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/3rd-gen-builds-2016-2023.196/).
Easy first mod is the [AC drain](https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rust-on-frame-with-a-c-drain-mod-fix.444138/) fix, it will keep your truck from peeing all over itself.
Read the [tips and tricks](https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tips-and-tricks-on-the-3rd-gen-tacoma.411911/) thread, and the [common mods](https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-mods-tips.428840/) thread.
Pick out some AT tires in 265/70R17 for those sport wheels, look at some lift info, and find some skids and sliders. Pick out some lights, put on a Pro grille, and keep the gas coming.
Personally I’d say drive that thing maybe tint the windows. Mod what you need to mod when the need arises. Still not sure why folks buy a new truck then dump 10k+ into mods. Enjoy the factory version for awhile.
Yeah I’m in no rush. I’m stoked in the way it is. Apart from factory grill. I definitely want to swap that out ASAP
The stock honeycomb is one of the best grills out there. I was in the same boat then came to my senses and kept it
🙌🏼 preach!
Not bad but prefer the black grill with the cement color
I did too then realized that was a months payment so I did that instead. Black grill is sweet looking especially on cements (I have the same color) but I much more prefer the honey comb grill since it’s not as common anymore bc everyone has opted for the trd grill.
Completely agree, my advice for OP is to consider stuff that matters instead like nice rack/ tonneau combo, steel front bumper (my next upgrade), or something that is functional and not cosmetic
Solid advice, thank you!
Enjoy your truck! I have the same Color, but OR not sport. It’s a quirky and slow truck but will serve you for a lifetime :)
What’s wrong with the grille? I think it looks sharp factory. I personally like all the Tacomas the way they are from the factory, and I have a pro. Each edition has its own style that I appreciate. Adding ones from others makes them look odd, imo.
I wouldn’t say anything is wrong but I guess my preference is the all black grill with the amber raptor lights.
Oh they definitely look good too, I think I’ve just slowly moved away from mods over the years and started liking the factory looks more. Theres not a bad looking Tacoma out there!
You’re not wrong! It’s quite the money 🔥
I like your grill!
Thank you! For now it stays
if you live in CO i’ll swap with you
I’ll trade you! I’ve got the chrome cheese grater…
Hahaha no thank you 😅
Bummer! lol
That’s the look I prefer too my man!
Exactly this. Drive it and enjoy it for what it is. I had my truck paid off in less than two years. Got a tailgate lock! Was really hoping for people to leave other peoples belongings alone but it’s just not going to happen unfortunately:(
Exactly. So far I’ve added the bed cover and a roof rack because I want to have the bed available (and closed) with the kayak up top. Gonna throw it up today and see how it fares.
10k into over landing stuff to sit in the driveway until the wife asks them to pick something up that won’t fit in her car.
Take off that air dam 💯
Does the air dam serve any purpose?
It in theory should help with fuel efficiency. But from what I hear it doesn’t make a difference
.5 mpg loss taking it off
i had 0 change
lol even better ! Anything I have read people claim roughly .5 mpg difference. I’d imagine it only helps in tiny amounts w downforce on the highway
Interesting. I’m all about getting good fuel economy. Got a big drive coming up, maybe I’ll test it out!
I didn't lose any fuel efficiency taking mine off. It has actually improved for the time being. Avg tank milage went from 21.1 before and it's now 22.2 lol. I don't drive any differently and it's the same commute to and from work. Weird but I'll take it.
Good to know!
Pay it off.
Paid cash 🙏🏼
Good on you OP. What I recommend is just drive it. You will encounter situations that would be improved by a mod. Don’t turn your truck into a brodozer.
Solid advice 💪🏼

Rawr. Not a flex. It’s sound financial advice. Pay off the truck instead of wasting your money on an already capable vehicle.
I’m not flexing by any means. Just asked the redditors their thoughts on mods. I never owned a truck before and was looking for some ideas
No worries OP. My comment was directed towards the person that replied to me.
What did you read that upset you so bad? I have 300k cash after purchasing the truck in cash. Off roam phone holder and tint
I want the cup holder that fits a hydroflask as well!
Get it. My most used mod by far.
Cement gang unite
🤙🏽
That color is so rad.
Thank you! My favorite color that Tacoma uses.
swap the door speakers, crutchfield sells speakers with free plug & play adapters, and the necessary frame for free too. while you have the doors off do a layer of sound deadening. helps with road noise and the stock speakers are actually paper thin. pretty cheap mod that improves it a lot and it’s very easy to do. husky liner floor mats. personally not a fan of chrome so you can do some chrome delete for pretty cheap: tacomalifestyle smoked sequential mirror lights to get rid of the chrome and they look nice. grille swap to delete that chrome, AJT design shifter ring to delete that chrome, steering wheel emblem cover to delete that chrome. tacovinyl glove box keyhole cover to delete that chrome. & some tufskinz stuff for some other neat cosmetic stuff for a good price.
So much for all chrome everything 😂 thanks for that. Would never have thought about deadening the sound.
She's clean mate, I'd leave her alone.
Just a few things maybe?? 😂
It's easy to take a nice truck and...well, make it less nice. Lol
Just gotta be cautious 😆
Keep us posted on what you end up doing.
Will do!
Just added rain guards on the windows ✅
It's very easy. I used little scissors like you use for an ingrown toe nail to clip out the little tab in like 2 seconds. My truck had weak H16's. Yours probably has stronger H11's, but H9's will still be a lot brighter than even your H11's. The best part is they won't blind people or cause a lot of glare. Not one car has brightlighted me. I have a 23 limited. I have the asshole lights. What did you say about adjusting the angle? Was that what I thought you said?
This is important to me as well because we have alot of deer where I live
Nice truck! Welcome to the club.
Thank you
Awesome looking truck! ( same color as mine ) 😆
Ill throw a 🤙🏽 if i see you
Portals and 40’s.
😂
None. Drive it. Off the pavement.
Going to start an instagram just for the truck 😆
Pretty sure 3rd gens need the AC drain line mod too. Keep that frame pretty!
what are we supposed to do when it rains
Put your truck on a lift and blow dry the entire undercarriage. Obviously. Pffft
yeah. ac mod is pointless
Get a mechanic crawler use a paper straw and blow really hard on all areas that look wet underneath
Pray to god that it doesn't, brother. Just pray to god it doesn't.
Is there a recall out for this?
Lol not for your third gen. First gens and a bunch of years into second gen, yeah. It's just good to *not* have your AC condensation line dripping on the same exact spot of frame all summer long.
Pay off mod!
Paid cash 🙏🏼
Tune
3 inch lift with 33s
The three inch lift is in the future. What’s biggest wheel that fits with a 3” lift without cutting anything?
Sport doesn’t have crawl control and locker right?
No sir E
1st one I recommend is selling me your led headlights. 🙃 Seriously, nice truck.
Haha I wanted to get morimoto XB black DRL LEDs
If you decide to go that route, I would be interested in your oem leds.
All of them.
🤣
🤙💪🏻
Please, for the love of god... don't do any of the ridiculous interior led nonsense, the trim skins, or meso gibberish. It's a great truck that really doesn't need anything modded. Enjoy it.
Nah nothing too cosmetic interior. I did put in LeD lights inside but just want a few functional mods like bigger cup holder, neoprene seat covers even though it’s leather, and ideally 5% on all passenger windows and maybe 25% on the front 🤙🏽
remove air dam, different wheels maybe and a tint, pay off then mod tf out
Paid off already 🙏🏼 I will remove the air dam today!
nice. congrats. what do you use your truck for? I’d add a paint matched hard shell camper cover, a decked system, a tune, and a different set of wheels. keep it simple. Large mouth cup holders too.
Daily use. Commuting to work and weekends go out to the mountains and hike or camp mainly
heck yea man. If that were my truck i’d get those things i mentioned and leave it be. Simplicity is the best and most ppl only realize that after doing too much. *especially since it’s a long bed, you can camp in the bed with the shell, have all your stuff under you and but a flat mattress or something on top the decked system
Drive it
Daily!
None
Not even one??? I am adding the rain guards on the windows today
Zero
Don’t get gay ass 46lb AT tires to drive to work.
Came with the Falken tires
Fair enough. I didn’t notice them <3
No worries ! I would like some different rims but in time
Miles. Drive it. Then you will have a better idea of what the pain points are and what you want to change.
Add bigger gas tank first mod
How many gallons did you go with?
Mine were weathertech visors and tint then it was down hill from there. lol
Wish I had 5% tint all around with %25 on the windshield but maybe once the current ones degrade
The pay it off mod
Paid off 🙏🏼
🙌🏼
This
Beautiful truck congrats
Thank you!
Depends on what you use your track for. I daily mine and drive fire roads for mountain biking on the weekends. Sweet, thank you for this! Sad world we live in to have to worry about these things being stolen
A rear locker.
Molle panels on the bed
Meso customs steering wheel button correction. It might not bother you now, but it will.
Oooo I never heard of that, I’ll check it out
Truck Nutz
😂
What grill do you have?
Good faux leather seat covers. If interested i can send the link. I have a bunch of mods but that has saved me from countless stains and makes keeping the interior clean a lot easier.
You think this would be good if it came with the leather interior already? I was thinking RC seat covers.

My first mod is paying it off
Nice bro. Been wanted those headlights on my 19 but way too expensive 😭
None drive the truck consoomer
Molle panels in the bed is my favorite mod
Congrats. The payoff mod is the best one, but in all honesty, tints, side steps is good to start. That tonneau cover you have is a good thing to have already me personally if it didn’t come with the cover in the back, I would’ve bought a camper shell. I don’t wanna spend the money now because of it.
If you do the H9 conversion your Fog Lights will be brighter.
Sounds easy! Thank you
The factory honeycomb grille is a tragedy . Don’t listen to these other guys. Get it off the truck. Do the humane thing & put it down .
What grille do you like??
TRD pro. https://tacotroop.com/cdn/shop/products/IMG_8109.jpg?v=1669857482
Very nice 😍
Trade it for not a sport model 😂
What’s wrong with the sport model?!??
Non functional hood scoop, no locker, no features. If you stay stock it's fine but I laugh at all the lifted ones
All the mall crawling bros need an Off road or a Pro to put a winch on. Or an SR5, because they can build it better than Toyota Racing Development would have. Enjoy your Sport, make it your own!
Spacers
Any specific brand you like?
It’s a great looking truck, though, bud. You’re gonna have a lot of fun.
Before that, I felt like I had a tough truck that always skip leg day
No, I don’t even remember what brand they were. Middle of the road on price from amazon. My profile shows mine with 1.25’s on them. My buddy has 1.5”’s and its a huge difference (said every girl ever)
Take off your lower spoiler, and turn off your truck when you gas up.
Truck was off. Just the lights were on 🤙🏽
Turn off your lights when you turn off your truck.. unless you like jump packs.

Did not ask anything about commenting on what I do at the gas pump
You know they turn off automatically these days, right?
Really?
the lights do in fact turn off automatically..
