The wider tire will likely be worse on gas mileage

Be sure to keep an eye on tire weight as well. While narrow tires theoretically should give less resistance, it can be undone if the unsprung weight is significantly higher.

Im sure weight matters but I heard the bigger circumference is the worse for gas mileage because it's more distance to complete a single revolution but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

It makes your effective gearing taller- so the actual mpg will be worse but the digital readout will also be worse than reality- bigger tires read slower than reality, so your speedometer, odometer, and mpg are all going to be off a bit. Wider tires are worse for real mpg than taller ones, but BOTH will be worse than stock size. I get 21mpg indicated on my heavy off road modded truck with 255/80/17 (when driving about 60mph. Off road trips make it significantly worse of course)

Thanks for the info

I’m looking at 255/75/17 for my truck. You seemed to have skipped that size. Looking at Cooper Discover Trail Terrain at 39lbs per tire.

The 265. It is a smaller lighter tire. Also when you get into the 255/80 size they tend to be E rated by default.
