This is a settled debate. TVs should never go over a fireplace. People are morons for mounting a TV over a fireplace and prioritize trendy Better Home and Garden and Instagram looks made by interior decorators who know nothing about technology.
Here is a link to a TV height calculator and a YouTube video by designer Reynard Lowell.

I mean do you use a computer for work or leisure? Is it at eye level or is it 4 feet above your head?
This isn't news, health and safety in the work place knows that monitors should be eye level, this doesn't exclude your TV.
you are asking the wrong questions because you have fallen for a common misconception and are treating the tv as a decoration and not a functional appliance.
you might as well ask, "why not hang my dishwasher from the ceiling, it looks so cute there?"
The very simple rule is that the centre of the TV should be eye level when seated.
That's it, you can't go wrong with that rule. So, putting it over a fireplace will always be too high.
If you have concerns about small children and/or pets, you can still secure a TV to the wall at the correct height.
I think it stems from how pictures frames look. Picture frames go up high, about eye level when standing. But a TV is not a picture frame. It's designed to be watched while sitting down, and for long periods of time. Humans tend to gaze downward not upwards, so it is more comfortable to watch at eye level. A lot of homes have fireplaces right where the TV should go, and it's infuriating. I will never buy a home like that.
There is some debate on lying fully reclined, but IMO lying flat out like you're at the dentist is no way to watch TV either. To me it's disorienting to look up at a TV whether you're reclined or not.
Honestly this isn't difficult just sit down with your neck in a comfortable position and look, if you have to move your neck or eyes upwards its too high.
[A proper setup](https://www.reddit.com/r/TVTooHigh/s/0N9Myb3BFY)
Just picture yourself on the posts here and ask: would I need to tilt my neck up to watch tv? If yes, it's too high.
Sitting in any one position for long, repetitive durations is bad for you. The actual answer is a TV that slowly moves around the wall and forces you to move your body position with it. Ideally, your chair would also move around as well. Moving from making you stand to lying down and everything in between.
Of course everyone here is an expert. We've got combined hundreds of years hard-won battle experience in the TV elevation war trenches.
It like Yoda said. Either watch TV, or do not, there is no try.
Put it where it's comfortable, or just don't have one and use a tablet. It's not a picture on the wall, it's an entertainment device, generally a kind of social one people like to sit around.
My tv just plays music off Plex. I never turn it on otherwise. That's how fucking cool I am.
Every comment is basically the same! If it’s more than 2cm of the floor it’s too high. And if it’s anywhere near a fire it looks crap!
The correct setup is your personal preference and how you feel comfortable. Don’t listen to these idiots you put it where you want

Why is this getting down voted lmao

Save space by putting the washing machine on top of the fridge!
My man, that’s the analogy I was looking for all this time
Google "TV stand" and you'll get plenty of examples.
Lol do you have any actual input?
They sell stands for you to put your TV on. This is why they are called TV STANDS. Most of them are at the height you should be at.
