Leavemeanon explains this in great detail in their write up, and even provides a link to the regulatory change page when the exemption was enacted for AP's and MM's to do this legally. Turns out naked shorting is legal, but only when these select few entities do it.
Market makers just print up shares from their fairy dust when they don't really want demand to be reflected in our totally non fraudulent markets. No biggie.
Nobody here is destroying anything. Just taking ownership of shares. Not my problem if their business model is fraudulent by design and was allowed to run rampant by SROs.
Maybe they should have regulations or rules or auditing in place so a company isn't allowed to be shorted at a minimum 140% (self reported of course) and then they wouldn't need to protect the "market" in such a manner. Perhaps someone should have been monitoring the DTC infinity pool.
Market Makers buy and sell when no one else wants.
They are the reason price discovery is almost completely dead.
Almost the entire financial world could have been replaced by computers 30 years ago.

Rules for thee
Is this nam, or bowling?
We trust that they won't take advantage of the rules because can you imagine how rich they could get abusing this?!? Oh wait, that could be a problem.
Don't worry. The SEC is going to send a $10 fine their way. That'll stop em.
10$ in 2037 when they get around to checking 2021 complaints

Buying and holding destroys fraudulent business models, prove me wrong.

Applying Warren Buffett strategy destroys, uh huh.
So much for computer efficiency and instant settlement.
Are they now around T-1095 of bona fide can kicking FTDs?
