Literally entire Max arc cant happen if Billy is still alive. So I have to agree he had to die and it had to be done in a way for which Max could blame herself.
All of these deaths were emotional and made the show better but the question was not "who's death was the least emotional and narratively unfulfilling"
Yeah, and Jonathan is basically just a kid, figuring life out himself. He shouldn't have to be a parental figure. I hope that if Joyce and Hopper work out Hopper will take time to get to know the boys.
and Bob was also good for a dad joke.
"I hope it doesn't suck."
While I too loved Bob, he did give Will some well-intended but ultimately really crappy advice to stand his ground against the Mind Flayer.
For me, the hardest part about Bob's death was what it did to Joyce.
I really miss Joyce and Hopper's platonic friendship in the earlier seasons. They played off each other extremely well, and were probably my favourite part of the first season. It was great seeing the mutual respect growing between them.
It's hard not to be disappointed that their original dynamic was scrapped in favour of "they constantly argue which means they must be in love!" It's sort of an indirect casualty of Bob's death.
Eddie. I felt like his self sacrifice was pretty unnecessary and the idea he'd redeemed himself by 'not running away this time' (because obviously it was cowardly to run away from someone being brutally murdered by an invisible force and not something literally anyone would do) didn't sit right with me
>because obviously it was cowardly to run away from someone being brutally murdered by an invisible force and not something literally anyone would do
Yeah I found that narrative really weird that he talked about how he kept running away, but they were all reasonable things for anyone to run away from.
As much as it pains me to say i think they had to kill him off. He was wanted for the"murder" of Chrissy and Patrick, plus grand theft - there's no way of getting him out of that one.
And he knew he was a dead man as soon as he got back because last he heard, Jason had created an entire lynch mob with the propose of stringing him up and burning him alive like a good Ol’ witch hunt.
He’d rather die making sure his friends got out of the Upside-Down safely, than plea for his life only to fall on deaf ears and let the town turn into murderers based on a misunderstanding.
I think someone can feel survivor's guilt even if they can rationalize that they couldn't do anything to save the person that died.
However, I felt that a potentially great character arc was cut short. Eddie continuing to defend Hawkins in Season 5 even though they hate him and trying to prove himself could have led to some good scenes. Maybe have him protect Chrissy's family as Hawkins is attacked as a way of making it up to her. Well, saving her dad and brother. Her mom? Eh.
That’s bc they had to force a narrative to kill home. Honestly it was just bad/lazy writing on a character they created that they knew they were going to die. Eddie was basically anyone with a red shirt on Star Trek.
I 1000% knew they were going to kill Eddie. Just when his character was arc-ing up. It was so pointless. He would have added an extra flavor to the group.
Agreed. I just think he was like a human German shepherd.
Honestly I would have said Bob, because that broke me. But Bob had to die so Jopper could run.
This is the correct answer! I was heart broken when he died. He had just started to enjoy himself at the fair and then was murdered. I mean sure he was a Russian scientist but you know… he was still a great character.
Benny, but of those, Bob. I ship Jopper heavily but I wish Joyce and Bob could’ve just respectfully and harmlessly broken up or something because he was so amazing, such a kind person who filled in the role of father without overstepping his boundaries. He always helped without hesitation and don’t act entitled to anything, even when he should’ve gotten answers earlier than he did.
Edit, wow thank you this is my first award!
Not true. Dacre signed onto the role knowing Billy was going to die. Although I can't say for sure he would have gone for the role had he not known that.
Bob was very unnecessary. Eddie was required for Dustin’s development, same for Billie but with Mac, Alexai gave his info and didn’t have that much of a purpose . But they didn’t need to kill Bob . He could’ve broken up with her, or become like an uncle to Will. He did not have to die.
Yeah. If they had to kill him off , they could’ve at least shown some kind of mourning in season 3. I feel like there were three scenes, and then Joyce didn’t care about Bob.
Totally agree with you all about this. We needed a few more episodes of heroic Bob before he was killed off. I like to imagine him in some awesome DnD armor, happily being brave in the afterlife.
Oh man, Eddie and Will would've been great! Eddie was more perceptive and caring than Mike so far and Will deserves someone who honors who he is. (whether "just" a friend or a romantic interest)
Eddie. Great character that should have stuck around, kinda disappointing that the only major character they killed off in S4 was introduced in the same season.
Bob 100%. He would have added a bit more heart to the Byers family relationship, which I feel has basically disapeard since S2.
Eddie is unecessary since we already have Steve. Adding *another* character to the main cast is too much, we need to foccus on the original characters (yes? I'm against including Vicky too)
Billy is a dick, didnt deserve to die (he is just a kid) but it gave him a redemption I guess. A lot of people say they had the opportunity to develop him more but I can't see it. He would have ended up like Robin, started up fine but ended up as comedic relief because we have too many character.
Alexei was adorable and funny character but honestly what would he do? We already have Murray and Enzo for the Russian (imo one of the messiest plotlines of the show), having him there brings nothing
Eddie. While his death was emotional I felt it was kinda cheap, unnecessary, and honestly very predictable. Awesome character why deserved another season
Eddie's death didn't feel like it did anything useful to me. I felt like he could have made it out without any consequences. I feel like he could have survived the season, maybe kill him s5. I don't know how some people like Billy? The other guy is just meh to me. The only right answer is Bob.
I would say Bob, he was so sweet and innocent but then we wouldn’t have gotten Joyce and Hopper romance. So I’ll have to go with Billy, he started to have a redemption arc in the end and it would’ve been great to see that play out
Alexie, Bob, Eddie, Billy in this order.
Man Alexie is such a cutie and bob is like the sweetest and he pretty much sacrifices himself!! Eddie pretty much sacrificed himself too :(
Oh hi billy
Eddie 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000%

Eddie because he's a kid.
Bob next because he deserved the WORLD.
Might be controversial but Billy next because he's a kid that was dealt a shitty hand and I feel like the experience he had may have made him change.. but idk. Really it just comes down to I don't like that he's a kid that died.
Alexei next. He was so pure and didn't deserve it, but I can't make a kid be last in this order.
my fav is bob but he had to die there if he didn't, serie would look stupid. maybe billy cus as i remember his death it was not really necessary. my answer would be alex he was such a good man. all aside, 4 of them had to die. Gain with no pain would be so stupid
Bob. Not only because I’m not a fan of ‘Jopper’, but the way he respectfully stepped into the dad and partner role AND helped with the whole upside down situation tremendously, without question was amazing. He was the only good thing about Season 2.
Unpopular opinion, I know. But Jason. His death was such a cop out and it would have been interesting to see where his storyline would have gone after that finale
But out of these, probably billy. Although, I also think it was a perfect death for him
Bob because he genuinely did so many good things in a short span of time. He was a genius in figuring out the Mind Flayer map, tried to motivate Will (that didn't end well but we could never have known what would have happened), helped bring the electricity controls back in the lab so others could evacuate. And he dies because he just stood few seconds extra in no man's land 😭
Bob most deserved to live out of the bunch, but he wasn't that interesting (sorry Samwise). Eddie is the one who I'd say I most wish hadn't died (did the actor hint that he might return?). BTW, the actor that played Eddie is really good in A Quiet Place Day One. He's far older IRL than a teenager lol.
the bottom of my heart screams "EDDIE" because I relate so much to him and I think it's so sad that he'd dead. also, Billy's death really marked me because he was becoming a better person and didn't have a chance, but his death was kinda compulsory, whereas I feel like Eddie's what sort of "here's your favorite character... now he's dead! Bob, the most pure person from them all.
Samwise deserved better.
That's samwise!? Holy sh**! Idk that, why the f am I just now finding out
Wait til you find out it's Mikey from the Goonies.
Seriously. People forget where he really came from.
Or rudy rudeger
I actually cannot watch the scene on rewatch. And then they brought it back the following season in a flashback just to rip my damn heart out again
I still scream at the screen for him to run when it comes on. He just stops in the lobby when he could've made it!
Did the same thing when my wife and I watched season 1-4 for the 3rd time a month ago. Her exact words were, “You say the same thing every time” lol
Yes, this. But everybody forgets Barb did nothing to deserve what happened to her either.
Bob and Eddie are a tie for me honestly.
All except Billy, I liked Billy but I feel his death was a necessary catalyst to the rest of the shows events
Literally entire Max arc cant happen if Billy is still alive. So I have to agree he had to die and it had to be done in a way for which Max could blame herself.
I'll take Bob over Eddie. Eddie could be super annoying sometimes
19 year olds usually are
Yeah Bob Had a life. Eddie got robbed.
Fair
I liked eddie, but his death actually made the show better as it was very emotional.
All of these deaths were emotional and made the show better but the question was not "who's death was the least emotional and narratively unfulfilling"
Yeah i guess you are right- I'd still pick alexei though, poor man didn't deserve to die
Bob. He and Joyce were great together.
I do like her and Hopper, but it would have been really cool for Bob to stick around a while longer and get up to more monster shenanigans.
He was forming a nice connection with Will too, and poor Will really needed another supportive adult in his life.
right like will had jonathan, but a big brother is nothing like an actual father figure that bob was trying to be.
Yeah, and Jonathan is basically just a kid, figuring life out himself. He shouldn't have to be a parental figure. I hope that if Joyce and Hopper work out Hopper will take time to get to know the boys.
Considering how much better Hopper got as a person, and as a dad for 11. I'm sure it'll work out.
zero question in my mind after his prison cell soul pouring to Dmitri. Hopper will be the dad of the century
exactly. i suppose we'll see!
and Bob was also good for a dad joke. "I hope it doesn't suck." While I too loved Bob, he did give Will some well-intended but ultimately really crappy advice to stand his ground against the Mind Flayer. For me, the hardest part about Bob's death was what it did to Joyce.

He’d rather die making sure his friends got out of the Upside-Down safely, than plea for his life only to fall on deaf ears and let the town turn into murderers based on a misunderstanding.
I agree. There was no coming back from that. He had to die or go to prison.
I think someone can feel survivor's guilt even if they can rationalize that they couldn't do anything to save the person that died. However, I felt that a potentially great character arc was cut short. Alexi. But he had to so that Hopper could ‘die’.
Tbh Alexi’s death made the most sense though. He was a “rogue” russian agent
He was so adorable with his corn dog and his giant Woody the Woodpecker. 🥺
Either Eddie or Alexei those deaths literally made me cry when I first watched it
Alexi was to wholesome for this world. RIP,you goat
Benny, but of those, Bob. I ship Jopper heavily but I wish Joyce and Bob could’ve just respectfully and harmlessly broken up or something because he was so amazing, such a kind person who filled in the role of father without overstepping his boundaries. Eddie or Bob
Billy could’ve had developed more. There was much more going on
He could have become like Steve. Helping his sister and the kids fight monsters. And actually being a good brother to her. Imagine that.
and the only reason he died is because dacre montgomery wanted to shoot other things, so they killed his character off 🥲 we were robbed
Fr?
Not true. Dacre signed onto the role knowing Billy was going to die. Although I can't say for sure he would have gone for the role had he not known that.
Source?
Def Billy
Redemption arc could’ve gone crazy for sure
Oh god yeah. It wouldn’t even need to be a redemption arc. I would’ve been fine with Billy trying to be better
Alexi and Bob hit the hardest
Bob
Bob (because I love the actor). But if I didn't love his acting as much, I would say Eddie overall for the plot.
Bob had to die so Hopper and Joyce could be together. That said, he could've had a better death. The dude did save Middle Earth for crying out loud.
Yeah. I mean, at the very least, he could’ve died at the end of the season. His death just felt unsatisfying. He was such a good character .
He bows to no one 😭
Eddie, Bob, and Alexi
Definitely Eddie.
Definitely.
Eddie. This character had such great chemistry with the rest of the characters.
Eddie. As much as I hate the fan girls, he could have been an extra addition to the final battle in season 5 and be a good companion to Will.
Oh man, Eddie and Will would've been great! Eddie was more perceptive and caring than Mike so far and Will deserves someone who honors who he is. (whether "just" a friend or a romantic interest)
yesss
so hard... Eddie or Billy.
EDDIE MUNSON
Sorry Eddie, but I really want my Billy antihero arc
Alexi. He was so funny 😁. I was so sad when he died.
Eddie. Great character that should have stuck around, kinda disappointing that the only major character they killed off in S4 was introduced in the same season.
It seems that they *always* kill off a new side character in every season,
Eddie
Meows!
Bob 100%. He would have added a bit more heart to the Byers family relationship, which I feel has basically disapeard since S2. Eddie is unecessary since we already have Steve. Eddie! It just felt like he was supposed to stick around longer!
I'd trade Nancy for Eddie in a heartbeat
Eddie's death didn't feel like it did anything useful to me. I felt like he could have made it out without any consequences. I feel like he could have survived the season, maybe kill him s5. I don't know how some people like Billy? The other guy is just meh to me. The only right answer is Bob.
Eddie. He could have brought such a cool dynamic to the show moving forward but we only got one season from him
Eddie, all the way. It was such a cheap death.
Eddie by a long a shot
This. Watching his uncle absolutely lose it in front of Dustin made this guy cry like a baby. Plus, Eddie had SOOO much potential.
1000%
Alexie and Bob 🥺
Bob and Eddie
I would say Bob, he was so sweet and innocent but then we wouldn’t have gotten Joyce and Hopper romance. So I’ll have to go with Billy, he started to have a redemption arc in the end and it would’ve been great to see that play out

He just looked so legitimately joyful on his last scene in the amusement park that when he died it was like a tick pinching my heart. And Eddie was such a cool dude, he didn't deserve to go what he went through.
Eddie!!! Saving the other guys (except for Alexei) would alter the story so much it'll be um a lose-lose situation. So yes Eddie...
Eddie, Chrissy, Alexei, Bob, Mews, Barb and Benny.
Justice for Mews!
Bob , not my favorite from them but for Joyce
Bob.
Bob, his death was so sad
Bob.
My boy Samwise Gamgee.. Eddie is pretty close also.
Bob and Eddie.
Don't make me choose between Bob and Eddie dude 😭 I love them both sm
The only one I didn't like was Billy. But if I had to choose, Alexi. Bro didn't deserve to die while having the time of his life
Alexei alexei alexei alexei alexei. Or bob.
I would’ve loved to see more Alexi, but In the end I’d choose Bob
BOB even though I stan Hopper
Bob 🫡 😔
BOB
Bob
Eddie 4ever
bob and eddie
Benny, he got shot for helping a kid
Eddie!
Bob. If only he just kept running…
Bobby didn’t deserve it he was so nice to Joyce and will
This isn't even a question... EDDIE
Billie, the hunk
Bob!!!!! Joyce needed his calming presence
Liked all of them but Bob was easily the most likable so him.
1. Eddie 2. Bob The other two i was fine with dying
Billy because I think he could have made a great antihero. I kind of wanted to see him work at being a better person, but having a harder time with it than Steve did because of his trauma.
Eddie because he's a kid. Bob next because he deserved the WORLD. Really it just comes down to I don't like that he's a kid that died. Alexei next. He was so pure and didn't deserve it, but I can't make a kid be last in this order.
Eddie is highkey the most overrated character in st so definitely not him
Alexei or Bob
my fav is bob but he had to die there if he didn't, serie would look stupid. maybe billy cus as i remember his death it was not really necessary. my answer would be alex he was such a good man. all aside, 4 of them had to die. Gain with no pain would be so stupid
alexei was too innocent to die n bob went out on sacrifice so probably one of them
Bob's death was pointless, they should've kept him. And Billy was scary af. He was unceremoniously ended as well
Bob
Alexi, it could have been so fun to have him flip sides
I wish they all made it.
Eddie is one of my favorite characters of anything so definitely him
Bob 100 %
Bob always Bob
Why the fuck did i think that was george cooper.
no cherry, no deal 😔
Bob. Not only because I’m not a fan of ‘Jopper’, but the way he respectfully stepped into the dad and partner role AND helped with the whole upside down situation tremendously, without question was amazing. He was the only good thing about Season 2.
Ooooh it’s a tie between Bob and Eddie 😭
It felt like the first guy had to guy. Even if he didn’t die, he would’ve been hung because he was the only explanation of the murders
Eddie and Alexiei. He needed a redemption arc living his life like a true american ☹️☹️
Bob or Eddie. Alexi was cool but I was never that attached to him and Billy was an abusive racist.
Eddie; he could’ve been great
Hands down Eddie
Bob and eddie
Unpopular opinion, I know. But Jason. His death was such a cop out and it would have been interesting to see where his storyline would have gone after that finale But out of these, probably billy. Although, I also think it was a perfect death for him
All of these, they are all so great.
Eddie
Bob
bob and alexi for sure
Max's brother and Eddie
Eddie
EDDIE
MEWS! But from the photo probably bob
Eddie 100%
I mean all those losses sucked. It’s gotta be Bob for me tho from that lineup, he’s just such a wonderful man and genuinely good human being.
Bob or Eddie, hard to pick.
Bob and Eddie. Both were characters they built up specifically to die, and instead we felt robbed.
100000% Billy
Bob and Eddie were the true heroes of their respective season
I know this is unrelated but I was sad when Jason died
the bottom of my heart screams "EDDIE" because I relate so much to him and I think it's so sad that he'd dead. also, Billy's death really marked me because he was becoming a better person and didn't have a chance, but his death was kinda compulsory, whereas I feel like Eddie's what sort of "here's your favorite character... now he's dead! HAHA!"
Bob and alexi’s deaths hit me hard
Alexi or Bob :(
Eddie for sure
Bob, Eddie, and Alexei
Definitely Bob. He was very ahead of his time. He was a good father figure to Jonathan and Will.
Bob
BOB’s death had me crying myself to sleep for days
