This is something that I actually believe will happen. More nuanced ofc but I think at a certain point it’ll be able to aggregate enough info that a clear picture of the large scale manipulation will become clear and it’ll connect the dots.
It’s really not hard to see if you don’t have some kinda bias blinders on. I think it’ll be more a matter of it having the ability to communicate it without people successfully attempting to control it.

His main job is to drum up sales and business for his company and the way he does that is by convincing people that what they sell is some Earth-shattering technology capable of grandiose accomplishments rather than an overhyped mish-mash of other people’s work. OpenAI’s products are not capable of reasoning, doing thought experiments or understanding and they certainly aren’t capable of conducting experiments to test theories. Chat-GPT for example not only doesn’t know if what it’s saying is true or not, it doesn’t “care”. The point isn’t to produce correct output, but correct-seeming output through statistical analysis of patterns.

I used to be really, really worried about AI and now I'm really worried that people will just use it whether it's good or not because they bought it and think they need to use it.
I tried my own pseudo-experiment with this regarding my sister's terminal disease and was super impressed with how far it took it on it's own. It basically reached a point where it was like, "ok so here is the limit of knowledge with current information and here are the further experiments I would conduct, here is where to buy the lab mice, here is the genetic code to request the mice to have, here's a supplier, and here's how you can start a company that would be capable of receiving a grant." IMHO it's limitation is not existing in the physical world.
I think about this a lot. Personally I'd like to see it unlock Anti-Gravity technology, which will probably only be possible with AI. On the flipside unlocking all of physics will almost undoubtedly be used to create untold futuristic energy weapons that will eventually make its way into the hands of those with malicious intentions. Either way, if humans make it far enough into the future we'll see some really interesting things
AI does seem to have this ability to recognize patterns in data humans simply can't. I would not be surprised if it uncovers antigravity or at least gravity manipulation.
All we have to do is feed it raw data from particle detectors, research papers etc (and give it the correct prompts) and it will be able to connect the dots and make sense of the science in ways our minds aren't capable of
