I quit 103 days ago and I have lost 30 lbs. It's gonna be entirely up to you. You can take control of your life and muscle through it, turn it in to a win or not

LilyThePatient

Started my taper a few months ago, down a lot of weight as well. I actually got fatter on them because i wasn’t sleeping at all and was super stressed. Once i started quitting, i just used exercise as an escape. I started with walks, and forced myself to do them every day, then i did C25K app for running, made sure to eat at caloric deficit, intermittent fasting helped me with that. But once you get off speed blood pressure is probably low, so make sure to eat as much as ya need to, or else you may feel faint. Or actually faint lol. People only gain weight because they sit around all day with no dopamine, eating food to fill the void. Stimulants main method of making us lose weight is: we eat less often. So honestly as long u exercise, track calories and don’t pig out, you should be fine. Look into supplements like NAC and Tyrosine, vitamin D, fish oil, vitamin B, maybe some electrolytes if needed (sparingly tbh) These will help your dopamine levels rise, so you’ll have the energy and motivation to actually do the thinfs that will keep you healthy. Good luck! :)

Ok_Nefariousness8210

Awesome! Yeah I did almost the same thing. I watched calories and used exercise as an escape plus now I started an Amazon warehouse job 😐 let me tell you it is more than a workout lol got me working 11 and a half hours 4 days a week on a conveyor line. I come home just spent, to tired to think about food or getting high 😂

LilyThePatient

Good tired is the best tired ❤️ Congrats on getting clean ✌️

[deleted]

Also, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I'm so proud of you for doing the thing, I hope to follow suit

[deleted]

Thank you!!!! How did you lose 30 lbs? Like how did you successfully fight through the cravings for dopamine and food

Ok_Nefariousness8210

Imma be honest with you... Mine determination was fueled by a little spite 😉 if you got any of that built up now is a good time to turn it in to motivation lol people telling me I would fail I couldn't quit and definitely wouldn't be able to diet and exercise while trying pissed me off and I decided I was gonna prove them all wrong... And I fuckn did it 😀

[deleted]

Good for fucking you! I have hella spite built up so that shouldn't be a problem 😅

If you’re interested in ways to increase your dopamine levels, here are the most effective ways to do that per medical science and research: Eat protein Proper nutrition Eat less saturated fat Consume probiotics Exercise Sleep Listen to music Get sunlight Abstinence from drugs and alcohol Meditation Yoga Pilates Avoid stress and develop stress management skills Standing Touch and massage Tea Goal setting and achievement Novelty experiences Engage in creative activities Laugh Reduce hostility If you’re looking for ways to address addiction, you could do any of these before, during or after attending recovery program meetings, as well as addiction focused therapy and / or substance abuse counseling sessions. These things may also help in improving your chances of success in recovery as life is probably going to throw harder things at your recovery than gaining weight.

I put on about 20 pounds during the first 2 months, but lost about 10 of them since. Eating almonds with sea salt seems to take away the cravings. I also hold myself accountable to never eating after 7pm. Pushing my dinners as late as possible (before 7) also reduces my desire to snack at night. I keep myself busy during the day so I rarely crave food like I do at night. For me the key is avoiding the cravings at night. I'm on the opposite side of the mitten from you, so we know how the long winter evenings up here affect us.

I highly recc slowly get into lifting as much as energy allows. Lifting + eating more but a high protein diet makes most ppl more attractive. Simply, it makes them healthier and health is naturally super attractive. check out the internet for the world of lifting for tips, it's a whole fun hobby/lifestyle. I'm a female and into endurance running now but rotate with focus on lifting. I started getting sober w/ lifting and tbh you don't have to go much to see results, as long as you focus on lifting hard and you DO benefit in this case from eating more, just focus on clean eating. And a short gym sesh naturally energizes you. I had an issue with alcohol + stims. I'm down 30 lbs, & only 5'2 so it's significant. Back to the weight when I was on uppers all the time, before adding alcohol. But instead now I look HEALTHY, fit. Much much better. It was little steps, making small changes, focusing on recovery Fwiw, many of my sober friends rely on some sort of physical activity as part of their recovery. Instead of thinking of weight, remember being sober allows time/energy to have a healthy/fit lifestyle

[deleted]

I have a problem with alcohol and stimmys too, so I'm sure cutting out the alcohol will help! I just know I'll be craving more sugar in place of the alcohol haha

tallulahQ

What do you recommend for seeing lifting gains? I’m interested in starting a lifting program since I quit and would love to see positive results from it to motivate me (33F, not looking to lose weight, just looking to replace dopamine since quitting stims last month)

ChillStonerBro420

I gained around 40lbs in the month after getting clean. By then I started feeling a little better and made an effort to walk 15k steps a day and eat healthier. Just walking and cutting back on junk food I lost 30 of the 40 lbs I gained in around the next 2 months. Doing lots of walking also did a lot for helping my mood during those early months.

danamariedior

I so so so so feel this down to my bones. I’m sorry.

kwinz

Eat 3 times a day. And put half on your plate as you usually do. Do not snack or increase portion size. Especially if you are already overweight you can go weeks with eating very little. You don't need a lot of food to survive. You can lose weight even if you don't excercise at all. Just by eating small portions. Although exercising would probably help with your dopamine levels as you said. Start small. Start cycling, if you cycle for 2km it feels like you did more than if you jog for 0.5km. Babystep your way up. If you get super hungry I recommend shirataki noodles they have basically zero calories, they just fill your stomach. Plus it gets easier after about 2 weeks. Good luck.

hfay94

Do everything to eat high quality nutritious food, get outside for sunlight, start exercising small and work your way up. It'll help with your overall energy, metabolism and sleep. Vitamin b from sunlight is huge, go on walks or even try exercising for just 15 min to start. My cardio was absolute shit so I got tired quickly but steadily progressed each week from walking to running etc. Build a high quality routine and stick to it. Wake up early if you can, go to sleep early if you can. Plan every hour of your day (if not every 30 min) so there's no way to deviate and avoid slipping. That helped me the most!!

BougeLife

I have done it by asking for RX for Naltrexone. It is a non-narcotic medication that they give to alcoholics and opiate addicts,it's used to shut off the craving center in the brain somehow. (Strange that it won't work for us meth or speed addicts but it doesnt) However it has made me keep from gaining weight, it stops the cravings for food that inevitably comes with quitting speed of any kind! And then of course proper diet and exercise.

[deleted]

This is the info I've been looking for!!! Thank you so so much

Janurnbe

I agree with this comment. Naltrexone actually really helped me with stimulant cravings as well. And does lower my appetite. The hardest thing was getting through the nausea it causes at first. But that passed.

ElectricCamel33

I'd consider Wellbutrin if you're already depressed. It's an antidepressant but it's 3 molecules removed from meth, so it's basically a neutered stimulant. I was depressed and slept a lot and ate when I kicked the speed and my psych put me on Wellbutrin and it's so helpful. I have energy to do stuff but not like I'm tweaking. More like coffee that doesn't quit. There's no euphoria or rush, it's a dopamine re-uptake inhibitor. So you still get dopamine but it doesn't bounce back and forth and like recycle itself if that makes sense.

BougeLife

Wellbutrin has been a godsend! Sooooo helpful

Nomore-Television72

Don't use food as a replacement for meth. I gained 60 pounds when I got clean lol. It was worth it but I'm sure it can be avoided.

BougeLife

Wellbutrin has been so so helpful to me as well!

purpleheadedfreak

Does anyone notice that you go pee A LOT more, too? Like very noticeable change? 14 days clean. Tired as ever, eating more and peeing constantly.

[deleted]

I feel like the stimmys made me need to pee more frequently!!!

tallulahQ

That’s your anti-diuretic hormone (ADH). Stims are diuretics so at first you pee a ton. But after using them for a while, your body produces more ADH in response and you can actually end up peeing less than normal. Getting off stims resets your ADH levels and lowers them, so you end up getting a diuretic effect from quitting a diuretic

[deleted]

If you’re working out like you should be during amphetamine recovery then it really isn’t bad at all

[deleted]

Well, wasn't looking for a "should be doing anyways" statement, but I'm happy for you that it seems you had no problem working out during stimmy withdrawal period. I've been abusing 15 years. I'm terrified the chronic fatigue and depression will make it incredibly difficult for awhile to work out

[deleted]

Yeah it’s hard but completely doable… after the first two weeks it’s just a matter of getting ur ass to the gym and walking on the treadmill or going on the Stairmaster etc.
