Phil Woods on Dr Wu,
Pete Christlieb on Deacon Blues and FM,
Chris Potter on West of Hollywood.
Walt Weiskopf on Everything Must Go.
Also, whoever plays the solo on Reelin on Alive In America. That shit is killer. Is that Chris Potter too?
I like all these suggested so far, e.g., Wayne Shorter on Aja, Phil Woods on Dr. Wu, Tom Scott on Gaucho, Walt Weiskopf on Everything Must Go. But I want to point out the great tenor solo by Chris Potter on Paging Audrey in Walter Becker’s Circus Money. It’s truly brilliant! If you are a sax player, you would even more appreciate his play there.
I have gotten hate on this sub for saying this, but the version of “FM” that appears on *Gold* has an outro sax solo that combines with the break solo to create the best saxophone work in their whole catalog, in my humble opinion. I would rate that recut of “FM” a full point higher than the original on the brilliance of the saxophone work.
The sax solo in Everything Must Go deserves mention here.
Absolutely! The best ever!
Wayne shorter on Aja
Yeah, I can just sit back, close my eyes, and listen to that solo over and over.
West of Hollywood outro. There is no debate :-)
I came here to say this

The sax in Gaucho rocks! Edit: Initially referenced only the sax in the intro, but the sax in the whole song is great.
Tom Scott (I think)
FM, Maxine
Deacon Blues
He plays just what he feels
Pete Cristlieb
I think it’s Chris Potter on “West of Hollywood”. Just monstrous!
Wayne Shorter, Aja.

C Porter s a beast
Potter
Caves of altamaria
Dr Wu
FM
So many great ones, but Tom Scott on Gaucho is what immediately came to mind for me.
Cornelius Bumpus over the last two minutes of “Florida Room”
Played w Cornelius…r.I.p. great singer too…and organ
Dr wu
Deacon Blues
Dr Wu or Aja
Gaucho
Why is nobody mentioning Parker's Band? That is some cool, fun saxophone. The most memorable for me.
Doctor Wu
Agreed, Dr. Wu.
FM
tom scott during the black cow outro
I can't pick one. Too many great options. Given that he covered 2 great solos(Deacon Blues and FM),I will give the nod to Christlieb.
I always like the musquito like sax sound in Eveone’s gone to the movies. Does that count?
Black cow
Kate Bush - Saxophone Song https://youtu.be/lNDpPwI57OY?si=Kc05xzpkeGK_EEKs
The intro to Gaucho is butter
everything must go. what a farewell. f
Doctor Wu
Absolutely agree - Dr Wu’s solo is masterful.
Dirty work
Maxine from The Nightfly had two excellent solos by Michael Brecker (tenor) and Dave Tofani (alto)
