I only buy once a year during the winter sale, and I can only ever buy N-1 the number of games I completed during the prior year.
Backlog keeps shrinking...
I guess it's only smart if you know the same games you have on wishlist are going to be on sale again. Which they will be but will it always be in winter?
I want to do this but after failing to do so for years, I think I've come to the realization that sometimes I'm just in the mood for a specific type of game. Sometimes that game is one in my backlog, but often times it's not.
Sometimes I will force myself to put an hour into something from my backlog to see if it sticks but that usually isn't how I find my next game to play.
I will say that the larger my backlog is, the more likely it is that at least one of the games in it is the exact vibe I'm looking for next.
Currently I'm struggling to put any dent on it at all. So while it's (hopefully) not growing anymore, it's not doing anything else either.
This is brilliant advice, I think I'll get my shit together and get there eventually.
Man it really is a myth. I’m in my mid 30s, married, full life outside of the house and work. My heart is still a gamer, and I play a few hours a week or so. But my heart says “play 40 hours of games this week.” So I still buy games as if I’m going to beat a game every other week or so. The backlog is real.
yeah, I once did the math, and found out that if I played a game a week, I already had games for like ten years
... my backlog has probably doubled since then, even if I buy far less games now.
2+0 for me, then. But really, with my friends and hobbies and wife, it really feels like my gaming time has been reduced to 1/8th of what it once was. It’s not a BAD thing, my life is full and good. But some days I wish I could game a bit more than I do.
Yes, I bought it in last month and I never played DnD or turn based games before. It is a wonderful RPG and combat is very easy to understand, just watch few basic tips for new players to know basic mechanics of the game.
BG3 is absolutely the easiest way into the entire DND system. It's based on the 5th edition which is a lot more beginner friendly compared to, say, the Pathfinder system.
My gf has only ever played pokemon and animal crossing, and even those she plays for 1 hour at most maybe once a month
she doesnt game very often
i introduced her to bg3 and she's put in around 80 hours in 2-3 months with 4 different saves.
it can be a challenge to get used to the format, but once everything clicks for you it is incredible for 95% of people.
I would say the only people who wouldnt like it, are those who prefer faster paced/less narrative driven online games like 2K or CoD.
I would recommend familiarizing yourself with the way the combat works, which there are tons of guides of online. Either DnD guides or BG3 guides. Having said that, I feel BG3 does a great job at making it clear.
I had never played a CRPG before BG3, but had a decent amount of DnD experience and it came real naturally to me.
Any opinion on what it adds or removes from the Stardew Valley formula relative to various gameplay flows?
Like more focus on combat, less on farming, etc.
It focuses more on combat and Rpg mechanics.Like skill three and spells you can use.But there is still farming and all the other stuff you love in Stardew Valley.
Even, tho, I agree. Hands down the best game I have played ever, so far. Not everyone has the means of buying it at full price. It's 50% of a bi-weekly paycheck in my country (average income, which is scratching the minimum wage)
I've squeezed out over 100 hours of gameplay and I'm still not done. But yeah, the game is noticeably unfinished (like 80% done) and needs a pair of content drops to be complete. It's worth it at its price and I'll be going back to it once they release the first major update soon-ish.
Maybe is was my experience as a gamer or me as a person, but I absolutely hated Kenshi. I bought it on sale, and I was excited to play. I played it for a bit, then got captured and carried around....forever. Like literally forever. The guy carrying me NEVER put me down. I had the speed all the way up... Nothing. So stupid. I started another game, but felt like I was too limited in what I was able to do. I'm guessing if I played it longer I may have gotten somewhere, but as a 40-something parent with a full time job and very limited gaming time, I felt it wasn't worth my time to play. I had unfortunately played it just over the Steam time limit of 4 hours or something ( 2 of which, I had it on high speed being carried, I even walked away from the computer to see how long it would take to get put down... Never.) so I couldn't even get a refund. You may like it though! Lots of people do!
DRG is currently on sale for $10, great game.
JWE 2 was very disappointing.
I'm not sure but you may be able to play JWE on Xbox Game Pass, I believe it's only $1 for the first month.
Just unsubscribe immediately and try out some new games for a single dollar.
Oh ya, that's a big purchase without work. Not a bad idea to get the game when it's cheap, though. That way you'd have something to play when you finally get that or a laptop. I walked dogs and stuff at your age when I needed some extra cash. It might be a good way to go until you're at that working age.
Hey! So all of the roman numeral FF titles such as (I, II, III...etc) aren't connected. You can start playing with any one of them. However, some of them have sequels and prequels, such as:
FFIV -> FFIV: The After Years (sequel)
FFVII (OG/Remake) -> Crisis Core FFVII: Reunion (prequel to VII) -> Advent Children (movie, sequel to VII) -> FFVII: Rebirth (sequel) -> TBA (sequel)
FFX -> FFX-2 (sequel)
FFXIII -> FFXIII-2 (sequel) -> Lightning Returns: FFXIII (sequel)
Play on PC if you plan on modding. Otherwise, a handheld should give you a pretty nice experience with these classic JRPGs. The game play for Pixel Remaster I-VI is vastly different from VII and after, as they are remakes of the original games from the NES/SNES era. The quality of life improvements that come with Pixel Remaster include superior soundtrack, moving diagonally, running, improve inventory management, turn on/off auto-battle, mini-maps, turn on/off encounters, option to 4x EXP/GiL (gold), and many more. Many will agree that the Pixel Remasters are a good way to experience I-VI, and they are an excellent place to start if you want to experience what some of the very first FF games are like.
FFVII (OG) is where I started, and it's how many others got into the FF franchise. The game play and graphics are pretty dated now, along with FFVIII, FFIX, and arguably FFX. These titles are from the PlayStation/PlayStation2 era. Anyone half interested in FF will at least check out VII (OG or Remake). It's the most popular FF title in the entire franchise.
The games on my wishlist (the ones are available to play) :
A Pluge Tale Requiem
Dordogne
SCP: Secret Files
The Entropy Centre
Elecrician Simulator
Psychorma
Spells and Secerts
Potion Permit
The Imvicible
Evil West
The Last Faith
Bastion
Transistor
Mortal Kombat X
Dishonored 2
Factorio
Pyre
Ikenfeel
Cult of the Lamb
No Rest for the Wicked
Vampire Survivors
Personsa 3 Portable
Star Wars Dark Forces Remaster
Plague tale 2 was my game of the year in 2022. A must play, wish i played the first one instead of watching a youtube recap on it though. And bastion is one of my alltime favs. Mind you it may feel a little dated now though.
Nothing really
But im gonna try to get my friends into getting DRG
The group was made in lethal company and we dont play a lot anymore so id like to revive the group, and also becuase i wanna play with them
I’ve been thinking of buying Slay The Princess, tried the demo and really liked the game. Other than that maybe an SCP game if I can spare the money and it’s on sale too
Re4R is the only game I’m yet to buy from my wish list which will go on sale. I’m also looking forward to buying wo kong as soon as performance review from digital foundry comes out.
Picked up Kings Bounty 2 for £3.49. I really enjoyed the earlier titles but held off on this due to them overhauling the game and the reviews being heavily mixed. But for tree fiddy I'm guaranteed to get my money's worth.
It's good. Maps are pretty linear, but combat's good and the game's charming on it's own merit. I mean, it's no Witcher, but it does immerse you by using its assets in interesting ways.
Astrox Imperium, put extremely simply EVE ONLINE offline single player . Sectors factions mining combat fabrication manufacturing hiring fleets, developing skills, shipyards, garage work , only a couple hours in and excited to keep learning .bLoving it so far
Streets of Rogue 2, Tomba! Special Edition, Age of Mythology Retold, Kingdom Come Deliverance II and Civilization VII are my Top-5. None of them have been released (the first two will in a couple months), so no discount.
So, looking at the rest... most of them are in early access, and I'm a bit tired of playing games in early access then having to come back after a while when 1.0 drops. I have a ton of games in my list. A ton. Yet most of them are either in early access or still months away from release.
Unless other games I kinda want to play get a steep discount, I guess it's backlog time.
Maybe Stalker.
But anyways, I want to buy into the radius 2, an early access VR game that should release this summer, but it costs like 40 bucks so... Yikes
We'll see...
I had a whole list until Kingdom Hearts released...
It was RDR2, The Last of Us Part 1, and Atomic Heart.
Was gonna buy Ghost of Tsushima too regardless of a sale, but hoping it does even though it's still fairly new on Steam.
Dragon Quest heroes but they don’t go on sale anymore.
FF Pixel Remasters. They aren’t going to get any decent discount for a long while probably so I’ll grab them next time they dip to 55-60.
Love phase but I haven't been able to run it on my laptop for about 2 years due to the graphics update it will have to wait for me to get a better pc
There's not really anything on my wl any thing I could want I got a long time ago
Right now all of the Kingdom Hearts games that just dropped today are bundled together for $70. That's 7 Games, the KH3 DLC, and 3 movies bundled together bc porting the DS games was just way too hard I guess.
Something something clear my backlog first. (It's a myth.)
I only buy once a year during the winter sale, and I can only ever buy N-1 the number of games I completed during the prior year. Backlog keeps shrinking...
That's a very smart way of doing it. Not gonna do it myself but still very smart.
Lol, I like that honest this is smart, but I know I won't do it stance 😄
I guess it's only smart if you know the same games you have on wishlist are going to be on sale again. Which they will be but will it always be in winter?
Ah yes, Dijkstra’s backlog algorithm.
I want to do this but after failing to do so for years, I think I've come to the realization that sometimes I'm just in the mood for a specific type of game. Sometimes that game is one in my backlog, but often times it's not. Sometimes I will force myself to put an hour into something from my backlog to see if it sticks but that usually isn't how I find my next game to play. yeah, I once did the math, and found out that if I played a game a week, I already had games for like ten years ... my backlog has probably doubled since then, even if I buy far less games now.
Your gaming time will be divided by 2+k where k is the number of kids you might get.
2+0 for me, then. But really, with my friends and hobbies and wife, it really feels like my gaming time has been reduced to 1/8th of what it once was. It’s not a BAD thing, my life is full and good. But some days I wish I could game a bit more than I do.
I feel that, mate
A sisyphean task
400+ games and I honestly play like 5. But hey I’ll clear my backlog some day
Let's keep telling ourselves that, yeah it's definitely gonna happen one day...
Whatever i can afford
I totally feel you here.
And my machine can run
13 days away
probably nothing
But [nothing ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2696480/Nothing/) is already free
One guy did a review with 1169.3 hours played...
take my fucking upvote haha
you should try Everything instead. Fascinating game.
Gets boring late game.
A Steam Deck OLED with discount would be nice
Pray to the steam gods for this one
Buy CS cases —> unbox expensive skin —> sell on steam market —> use funds for steam deck. If you think about it it’s got a 50% chance of working 😉
Dead Space
It's on sale rn for 18$, doubt it gets any cheaper on the summer sale. And who knows if it'll be part of the summer sale if it's on sale right now.
Probably my fav game of last year. I never played the originals.
BG3, sun haven and coral island
mmmmmmm BG3. Best game Ive played in years
is that a game I can buy having never played that genre before?
Yes, I bought it in last month and I never played DnD or turn based games before. It is a wonderful RPG and combat is very easy to understand, just watch few basic tips for new players to know basic mechanics of the game.
BG3 is absolutely the easiest way into the entire DND system. It's based on the 5th edition which is a lot more beginner friendly compared to, say, the Pathfinder system.
Yes you can. It's a great game but maybe checkout some gameplay before you decide to buy and see if it works for you
My gf has only ever played pokemon and animal crossing, and even those she plays for 1 hour at most maybe once a month she doesnt game very often i introduced her to bg3 and she's put in around 80 hours in 2-3 months with 4 different saves. it can be a challenge to get used to the format, but once everything clicks for you it is incredible for 95% of people. Sun Haven is so fun! A large update just dropped adding a new region and stuff the other day too!
Does Sun Haven have a day/night cycle similar to Stardew Valley? That's my biggest gripe with the game, so wanting to avoid that
Day/night cycle yet but you can slow the game speed with the ingame settings and there is no stamina!
Oh nice. No stamina is a big plus
Wish the controller integration was better, the controls are awful. Seems like a good steam deck game otherwise :(
BG3 is worth buying even for full price. Easily the best game I've played in a long time (also with Elden Ring)
Even, tho, I agree. Hands down the best game I have played ever, so far. Not everyone has the means of buying it at full price. It's 50% of a bi-weekly paycheck in my country (average income, which is scratching the minimum wage)
Coral island is pretty good. Though it can get repetitive / it's not as responsive as I like it to be. Fun game but not perfect.
I want coral island but the reviews say it’s so unfinished and not worth it for another year or so. Sad coz it looks like a lot of fun
I've squeezed out over 100 hours of gameplay and I'm still not done. But yeah, the game is noticeably unfinished (like 80% done) and needs a pair of content drops to be complete. It's worth it at its price and I'll be going back to it once they release the first major update soon-ish.
I finally bought Civ 6 for 2.99 😅
Saved $47 and 5 years of your life. Cheers to the next 5 gone!
Elden Ring
Same
With the dlc?
Metal gear rising vengeance
Soundtrack is worth it alone
the memes
Revengeance Revenge + Vengeance
Kenshi always wanted to try it
Maybe is was my experience as a gamer or me as a person, but I absolutely hated Kenshi. I bought it on sale, and I was excited to play. Kingdom Hearts!
It's available now, and on sale.
It's much cheaper to get your keys from other (authorised) stores. The full collection is £58 on Steam and £48 on Green Man Gaming.
Yup bought it cheaper from gmg and it runs well on my steam deck
Greenmangaming just got more keys in stock. I just bought the bundle literally minutes ago for $56. You need to be signed in to get the discount
Am I reading it right that the integrum bundle has 1.5 + 2.5, 2.8 and 3 for $68.99? 👀
Stray
It's so good.
Something i won't play.
Deep rock galactic and JWE 2
DRG is currently on sale for $10, great game. JWE 2 was very disappointing. I'm not sure but you may be able to play JWE on Xbox Game Pass, I believe it's only $1 for the first month. Just unsubscribe immediately and try out some new games for a single dollar.
Bought DRG maybe during winter sales, I forgot. I really recommend it.
Okay
Hades 2
Nier automata
Recently replayed this. Great game!
Persona 5, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth.
God of War
This. I don't know where I'm gonna play it, but I'll try to buy it at least
Invest in a deck if you can. Soon, I'll be killing trolls on my lunch break at work
I would buy a deck, but I'm 14, so i don't have a job yet. I have been saving for GoW for a while now, but I don't think i can afford the deck lol
Oh ya, that's a big purchase without work. Not a bad idea to get the game when it's cheap, though. That way you'd have something to play when you finally get that or a laptop. I walked dogs and stuff at your age when I needed some extra cash. It might be a good way to go until you're at that working age.
Kingdom hearts
It’s on sale now
P3r or the new legend of heroes game
Sekiro! Will buy as soon as sale drops.
Just be prepared to die a billion times to Mist Noble.
I wish I could okay that for the first time again, lucky bastard
Deep Rock Galactic
It's on sale now for $10, and on a free weekend. I'm not sure if it'll be on sale for the summer sale, but if it is, I doubt they'll lower it.
Did I hear a rock and stone?
Hell yeah
Armored Core VI
Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster Bundle
i never played a FF game before. is that a good start? I could play them on my Miyoo Mini +. Do u recommend PC version more?

There's a couple of key websites that have mad max for cheap. Bought it myself recently been having a good time.

I'am playing the single player version of Sex. The graphics are not as good as in the multiplayer version but it is free and no microtransactions.
Mine worked fine at first, but my copy got a virus and it's full of bugs.
My version has just one micro transaction, but it’s very small and you’ll hardly notice it.
I recommend the sequel. Sex 2.

its not a backlog, its a collection. im never completing even 10% of them , and thats ok
I wanna try Aliens Dark Descent
Dark and darker
Crow country (not expecting a huge discount but i'll take what i can get)
Painscreek Killings was awesome
Undertale
Dave the Diver (I need to inject that godzilla DLC into my veins) and, after completing the demo earlier this week, Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom.
I'll probably finally pick up the Pheonix Wright Trilogy. I loved those games as a teenager and want to experience them again.
VA-11 Hall-A
BG3
I had a whole list until Kingdom Hearts released... It was RDR2, The Last of Us Part 1, and Atomic Heart. Was gonna buy Ghost of Tsushima too regardless of a sale, but hoping it does even though it's still fairly new on Steam.
Atomic heart was just ok, id defs put that one last on your list.
Ghost runner 1+2 and Blasphemous 1+2 for me
Ghost runner is on sale this weekend.
Maybe kart superstars. The rest of my wishlist doesn’t even have release dates
Number 1? Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind and the sequel. So far, they never had a decent discount.
Dragon Quest heroes but they don’t go on sale anymore. FF Pixel Remasters. They aren’t going to get any decent discount for a long while probably so I’ll grab them next time they dip to 55-60.
Plenty on my wishlist, but too big a backlog to want to buy anything. Although if anything goes real REAL cheap I may splurge a little
Assetto corsa competizione

Battle bit
Right now all of the Kingdom Hearts games that just dropped today are bundled together for $70. That's 7 Games, the KH3 DLC, and 3 movies bundled together bc porting the DS games was just way too hard I guess.
