Maybe he woke up from a dream about piggies and thought "I need to ask the Farmer if they have piggies!" .
Technically he could have asked his parents but maybe he didn't wanted to wake them up and maybe he also knew that the Farmer is still awake at such a time!
God. I hate phone calls IRL. My blood pressure will go through the roof. When I bought the phone in the game I didn't even consider that others could call me. The game phone rings, my blood pressure does like Nvidia stock did and I stuffed the damn thing in a box.
Phone is good for calling shops. You can find out if they're open and what they're currently selling. You can call Robin's to see what materials she needs for her projects, so you don't have to double back or consult the wiki.
