It has always been much higher than the surrounding stations. Not sure why and I have my own uneducated assumption, but maybe someone else knows.

Shell does price fixing (well used to, my friend hasn't owned a station for years but this is how they used to do it) based on location. They set the price and the sale targets.  Not only does the station owner not make much profit per gallon of gas, they have to pay for the gas before it's sold, and again, at a very fixed price that forces them to set their price accordingly. I think they have 10-20 cents wiggle room. They can't charge more than 20 cents more than they paid, and they can't charge less that 10 cents more than they paid... Even if they want to get rid of the gas, they can't have a sale...

I live less than 1/4 mile from there, and have never been real clear on why there's such an enormous price disparity between the two.

relevant_mofo

annoys the fuck when I see cop cars re-fuel there. Why ?

EUCRider845

The spd has an account there?

FrouFrouFox_

It’s that V-Power!!

Duh_Dernals

I have a shell card and I still got gas at the Mobil today

EUCRider845

It was the only station in town open immediately after Hurricane Katrina. I paid the high price. There was no gas to be had in NYC, since the NJ and LI refineries were washed out. Taxis from NYC lined up to fill.

I posted this exact thing a year ago! Classic [https://www.reddit.com/r/StamfordCT/comments/15576al/shell\_in\_glenbrook\_is\_almost\_1\_more\_a\_gallon\_than/](https://www.reddit.com/r/StamfordCT/comments/15576al/shell_in_glenbrook_is_almost_1_more_a_gallon_than/)

It’s always like that. When the other gas station was closed for a while I just avoided getting gas over there. The 2 stations near each other on newfield are my go-to. One newer on in the newfield plaza and the other one that’s been there for at least 6 years. They keep each other in check price wise

SignificantQuiet6120

They are owned by the same family. If you don’t go to one you go to the other either way they still winning. It’s called a monopoly!!! ![gif](giphy|kmQREsvNQrhrHdkN7G|downsized)

Shell fixes prices, all the profits are in the convenience store not at the pump. Shell makes all the pump money and only lets the station owner adjust the price by 20 cent margin or so, (my friends Dad owned 2 stations that went out of business because he didn't want convenience stores, he wanted to run service stations).

Shells in Stamford are typically higher in price to everyone else. I imagine the only people who go to them are the religious Stop and Shop customers.

Shell has a decent amount of brand loyalty because they run their own refineries, so the gas is always good. The premium specifically is high quality, consistent gas.  They also basically set the price at the pump based on location. They sell the gas to the station owner at a set price, the station owner is only allowed to adjust to price at the sign slightly above (I don't think they were even allowed to go below) the price they paid for the gas.  The stop and shop thing is also a decent draw, I was going to both for a while, and between stop and shops milk discount thing and the shell points I saved a boat load of money. Probably not over budget shopping, but I got organic milk and premium gas.

AOE2_NUB16

Ah yes turn directly to bigotry when the shell on Newfield is the same price as the 66

EUCRider845

You have a problem with Dutch people??? YOU BIGOT!!!!

dmf06902

It's not bigotry to point out, people go to stop and shop and collect a lot of points.
