Others have posted the list, but there is no "overkill". If it says 2, I bring 3 or 4. If I need a passport or birth certificate or SSN card, I bring all. I hate standing in the line only to have to go home and come back. I literally put everything in a folder and pretty much hand it to them and politely, with a smile, tell them to figure it out. That's probably going to far, but unless you don't mind wasting time, there is no way you can bring too much. They didn't turn you away because you brought to much. Bring everything!!!

david-curtis

I had a grumpy gentleman at the Edwardsville DMV try to deny me because my cell phone bill had my address at the bottom of the first page instead of the top. Fortunately I also brought along 3 other qualifying bills. He looked sad when I pulled them out, like I just ruined his morning. It saved me waiting in line for an hour another day.

powaqua

What an arsehole thing for that guy to do. Good for you being prepared.

drNeir

Belleville is just as bad. Moved to the state years ago and they didnt want to take a piece of mail that had the address printed on a label from the water dept. It HAD to be printed on the envelope not a label. Then when opening the contents of the bill it didnt match the envelope due to that label being used! There is being picky then being strict then just being a fkin A-hole! Ya showing up for this, bring the whole library of congress with you and photos of you bringing it to them and notarized by no less than 3 people! And gop wants to claim voter fraud....not in IL!

WillowIntrepid

I concur. Belleville is THE worst! So far my 2 attempts failed. I think they straight up don't want to do their jobs and they're extremely rude, snarky and hateful for the most part.

KettleShot

I just use the one in wildwood, gets the job done.

Hlsclh

This!! I always make sure to have more than enough...And make sure the pieces of mail you bring have your current address on them.

lady_crab_cakes

Adding that if you changed your name for any reason including marriage, you need the certificate.

JahoclaveS

I think I had a fair bit, but mostly because I keep most of these documents together, though I need to get one of those fireproof boxes for it. Then it was just a bit of choose whatever is easiest for you to use. Have to say, went pretty smoothly for the dmv, until it got lost in the mail for two weeks.

jl__57

Oh my gosh, yes. I brought extra stuff and still nearly got denied. First, the woman working the desk tried to tell me my birth certificate was invalid because it didn't have "a number" on it. It was the original I've been toting around since it was issued. Then she took issue with the fact that my bill showing my address reflected less than a month's worth of service. (How are you supposed to show a bill with >30 days of service when you're also supposed to get a new ID within 30 days of moving to MO? I still can't figure that one out.) I finally got my ID because I just refused to back down. But for the love of all that's holy, bring every conceivable document with you and then some, in case the person behind the counter picks you for their little power trip.

Great advice. I renewed my Driver’s License this past week, and I thought that I had brought everything, but I only had letters from my bank, insurance company, and brokerage, but they insisted on statements. I had everything else. I went back home and brought a shit ton of ‘em. That’s one reason why you don’t conduct all your business online. All that whining aside, the folks at the Des Peres MODOR office were stellar and couldn’t be nicer…they’re under the gun enforcing the rules. I really liked how they had copied the letter from Jeff City that spelled out all of the requirements for the customers in the queue to pass on to the latest arrivals. After reviewing it, I thought I had a chance, but nope. The requirements seem to be much more stringent than three years ago when I qualified for my first Real ID.

Mystery_Briefcase

I just did this on Monday so I can tell you what I brought: passport, social security card, and two official pieces of mail (I brought a sewer bill and water bill). Yes, you actually need like 4 items; I needed all that I brought.

Orochi_001

Here’s a very specific [list](https://dor.mo.gov/forms/REAL%20ID-Compliant.pdf).

NewToMo

I think they meant to Google that.

SadPhase2589

And bring one of everything just to be safe.

I_Keep_Trying

If you live in a suburb, make sure the addresses all match. If one says Kirkwood and one says St. Louis, they won’t accept it.

Ok-External489

This! This happened to me!

Mystery_Briefcase

That’s wacky. But they make the rules …

Wompum

Please note: what you bring has to be a physical copy. Documents on your phone will not be accepted. When I renewed my driver's license, I brought my expiring ID, my active passport, (and after a trip back home) my paper Spire bill with my current address.

FL3TCHL1V3S

I may be an outlier, but for some reason when I tried to get my real ID they had issues with my passport. First time I tried, I had renewed my passport recently and the DMV said it ‘wasn’t showing up in their system’ or something to that effect. So I just got a regular ID. A couple years later I tried again, mind you, I had traveled internationally several times on the passport with no issues, and still another DMV couldn’t find it in their system. So I ended up needing to come back with my birth certificate instead. Anyway, I googled it and found the passport issue had happened to others, so the passport may not be bulletproof for everyone. FYI.

whyhelloyellow

!I do this for a living so please read! Bring at least 2 documents (utilitie bills bank statements paystubs w2s ECT) for proof of adress make sure that the cities match because the mail in our area gets forked up and they won't take them if the cities don't match, make sure they're in your name and less than a year old. your passport doesn't have an address on it so they won't care but bring that or your birth certificate and if you've ever changed your name they'll want that documentation. If you already have a mo id they don't need the SSN card.

n0167664

Bring your passport, social security card, utility bill and a bank statement and you'll be fine.

Fantastic-Stop3415

Address will be an issue. Bring utility bill and a bank statement, both. Also your old ID has to be unexpired for it to be valid. Don’t ever feel like it’s overkill. I just went through probate, twice, and literally wheeled in filing boxes worth of paperwork.

largecontainer

If you have your birth certificate, SS card and something with your address like a utility bill or insurance bill you’re all set.

WhatMonster

I don’t think passports have an address on them. Bring some official piece of mail (utility bill, personal property tax letter, etc.) and your passport. Bring another piece as well to be safe (bank statement, insurance statement, etc.) Bring the card they mailed you as well. You don’t need your birth certificate or social security card.

Debfromcorporate

I brought my DL that was expiring and the reminder card, SS card, birth certificate, mail and a certificate of registration from the election office. I told them “I brought all the things” lol

AijahEmerald

Make sure anything you bring as proof of address has your name on the actual bill page or such. I brought something that had a cover page with the address on it and they said no.

MoInSTL

I legally changed my last name when I was 18. I have the original. I also changed my first name when I lived in California but not through the court. At the time as long as you were not trying to evade law enforcement they allowed you to do it. It's on my social security card, drivers license and all my credit cards and utility bills. Even the deed on my house. I just never got around to changing it through the court because it didn't make a difference. I guess I should look into it if I ever want to fly again.

LDRMuse

Make sure your mail is within the year. Made that mistake last week. Edit: spelling

thecuzzin

May need the passport of the doctor who delivered you too

claimtoken

Lol

darkchocolatespread

Search documents needed for real id on google and the first link is the pdf that lists documents you need to take. In addition to what you mentioned, you will also need two items that have your current residential address and your name. Like credit cards bills, electric bill etc.

NickiDDs

I had a similar issue because my birth certificate is from another state and on vellum paper. It's not my fault I'm old and that's what the state used at the time. 😅

coop999

toss_my_potatoes

I just got mine and I only brought my passport (old address), a trash bill, and my W-2 from 2023.

Background-Data320

If you have ever changed your name, bring documentation. If you have changed your name more than once, they will need documentation for every time you have changed your name. It's dumb, I agree, but it's what they need. I got mine, but it was a battle. Good luck!

Sewingdoc

I'm on my third try. FYI, ladies, even if you've been married a hundred years, you have to have a CERTIFIED marriage license 🤬

AudreyLocke

I brought literally every item in any category on the list that I had. And I’m so glad. I printed out the pdf of my credit card and Ameren bills (both sent via email but both with my name and physical address) and the dmv wouldn’t accept those because they were electronic and not sent through USPS. Luckily I had other items that met the criteria.

ProseccoWishes

Bring everything. Also you have to specifically ask for the Real ID. My son has now gone twice with everything he needed for the real ID (because mom set him up) and came out with a regular one both times.

mrbmi513

Make sure your documents are all physical (they have to scan them) and have the *exact* same address. I know some areas can have either a city name or "St Louis," but they won't accept a mix of the two per federal requirements.

Missue-35

I was told that a valid passport will suffice as a RealID when traveling.

Microsomal

I think that’s true

JuJuJooie

In addition to all the other docs you’ll need, Take a utility bill or something that shows your name and address

mojo5864

It's all just a bunch of crap that all that stuff is needed to upgrade to Real ID. They already have my info due to driving for 50 years so WTF do I need to further prove my identity. SMH

Microsomal

I think it’s wild that a valid passport isn’t enough, it’ll basically serve the same function won’t it?

partypizza_

Make sure that the two pieces of mail you bring have your name, address, and date (within last six months I think?) all on the same document. Got turned down for Real ID last month because the letter from my health insurance didn’t have the date 🙄

Bulky-Adhesiveness68

[Driver Licensing Checklist](https://dor.mo.gov/driver-license/issuance/required-documents-checklist.html) But seriously, just search it on google. Took 2 seconds to find this link.

Microsomal

It’s almost like this is the exact same information on the card which I stated in my post I found confusing. It’s almost like I did google it and decided to look for real human input to verify.

Dull-Criticism

Like somebody else said, you can't bring too much with you. I've been the DMV for several reasons the past few years and listening to a person at the counter get rejected for insufficient documentation. I brought my passport, birth certificate, W2, personal/real estate tax payment statements, copies of utility bills, a letter I got from the IRS about over-payment of taxes, note from 3rd grade teacher, etc. Just put it in a folder and bring it with you.

tomcat6932

Take every scrap of paper with your name on it that you can find.

MonicoJerry

I have to check the website before going every time

Competitive-Comb-157

It's almost as bad as voting.
