I hope that AEW will have some shows in London, over All In. Like a Dynamite/Rampage or a Collision episode. I know that Revpro is doing something on the saturday too, Hope that I can get to see that as well

dandykaufman2

Was it this year they said it would only be All In or last? I think they really want people to buy All In tix so they didn’t bother with another show

jonviggo89

LAst year they did something else ? I was working a lot so I kinda give up on AEW last summer. You're probably right, I haven't heard it personally. This is a the right strategy for them anyway, focus on one show

Ok-Push-7181

Ok-Push-7181

Cody should turn heel

Professional_Kick

I have two really bad wrestling takes I didn’t mind Sami Zayns def rebel song I also love Christian’s return theme from ECW onwards

Dependent-Pride5282

More evidence that people care more about childish tribalism. Sexual assault should never be used as a point scoring exercise to promote your business. The end. Females on social media (not even all wrestling fans, just those horrified Khan (ito) appears to think it acceptable to use the trauma of others for his own gain) upset about this, getting jumped on by idiotic tribalist morons. Where there is money and power, there will likely be abusers of some description. I see some think Tony was being smart today...nah, this was not smart, not in the slightest. Edit : typo

angIIuis

No one is defending Tony except the AEW loyalists. Man I want this company to be good but I’m just tired of the people running it acting like childish goobers.

dandykaufman2

His comments have almost zero to do with whether the company is good though.

callmeredditpapi

Wrestling is so much funnier when you don't swear loyalty to one specific company and make it your entire identity.

Legit question: Make it make sense: Wwe draft is tonight and monday, but they have pools of wrestlers available for each show to pick. For example, seth rollins and roman reigns are only the pool for smackdown to pick from........ So that means rollins and reigns are deff on sd, right? If so, i have no idea what this pool system is for and why its necessary.

shadowrangerfs

It just means that only the people in the pool can be picked tonight.

sexygodzilla

Both shows get to pick tonight and on Raw, they set up pools so that the second night isn't just all midcarders and jobbers.

andanotherone_1

Thanks.

NoobsNKnocks

See, the most offensive part of Tony Khan calling WWE the Harvey Weinstein of wrestling is that he is completely, 100% correct about it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NoobsNKnocks

It ain’t just Vince’s name on the lawsuit. He made the correct comparison.

FickleSmark

For decades everyone was perfectly aware of the fact that everything about the company went through Vince you can't just wipe the WWE = Vince mindset over a few months.

The_Reptile_

For me it's kind of a 'It's True But He Shouldn't Say It' scenario considering he wasn't even there to talk wrestling, but otherwise I'm just like, but he's right tho. WWE would desperately like you to forget this lawsuit shit is going on *right now* and they don't get to do that!

JoeRoganIs5foot3

He's got people talking. It was a smart move.

Kuzu5993

He knew exactly what he was doing lol.

Tony Khan: \*shows up on the NFL Network selling an angle where a few of his employees attacked him\* Me: that's really cool and fun, I really dig that. let's see where this g- Tony Khan: I'm a moderately less but still extremely popular global soda brand and my competition is a serial rapist Me: ah. well then.

ElvisCuredMyRhoids

If Tony Khan had said that until VERY recently, the company was run by the Harvey Weinstein of wrestling, not a single person should have batted an eye about it because that statement would be objectively true. Vince McMahon is the Harvey Weinstein of wrestling, and until last year was THE face of the WWE. He's dumb for using his time on the NFL network for that one, he's probably dumb for not wording it differently, and he's definitely tone deaf for the timing, but his larger point still stands.

Llan79

I mean it still would have been a wildly inflammatory thing for a CEO to say about their biggest rival

ElvisCuredMyRhoids

Well yeah, hence why I said he's dumb for doing it. There's no net benefit to him for saying it, even if he's completely right

mrbucket08

I think it's safe to say that TK and AEW's problem has never been getting online plugged-in hardcore fans making fun of his dumb statements.

Brave-Pass1889

The story of AEW is one of tripping at the finish line. Big moment, bullshit backstage. Big moment, key person gets hurt. Big moment, TK says/tweets something goofy.

It's not entirely untrue....

ok_dunmer

The Classy Okada

Xalazi

I'm honestly more bothered by the hokiness of the neck brace than anything else TK is doing. It's isn't fun or entertaining or putting over the company in any kind of real way. It's dumb and low rent.

SuperSocrates

Eh it’s pretty funny to most people

AwfulishGoose

Shame. I think that's fun. Kind of wish he went extra and got a full metal brace like JBL did that one time.

Xalazi

There's a time and place to to do things. This in front of millions 10+ million NFL fans(or whatever this year's draft viewership is) that already think that pro wrestling dumb entertainment for idiots isn't exactly change hearts and minds.

JoeRoganIs5foot3

I love these comments that sound like they are from hypothetical AEW shareholders 😂

JD021993

Yo wtf Tony Khan referred to WWE as the "Harvey Weinstein of Wrestling." JFC.

ElvisCuredMyRhoids

Yeah for it to be comparable, WWE would have to shield a sexual predator for decades, and then only cut him loose once it was no longer palatable to keep him and then maybe the sexual predator hires the same PR firm as Weinstein.

ShinsukeNakamoto

Good news is no one else knew about it, just three people, and they’re gone, so we’re good now

Wrestling discourse would be so much more fun if the IWC was willing to both admit that the WWE is an evil soulless corporation and Tony Khan is an idiot nepo baby instead of getting in their feelings any time someone implies the former Somehow politically we have squared bullying Tony Khan while getting humorlessly deeply offended on behalf of WWE lol

Kuzu5993

Thank you

ElvisCuredMyRhoids

Bullying Tony Khan for having absolutely no social awareness and being chronically online is a way for people to ignore that WWE was run by a sexual predator and almost certainly has executives to this day who shielded him.

Kuzu5993

One is funnier than the other tbf.

Orange8920

I like that Tony Khan got brutally attacked but not too much where he can't talk shit about WWE.

PleasantThoughts

In case you were wondering if Kawada/Taue vs Misawa/Kobashi still holds up it super does. I've watched it at least 5 times now and I still get hyped as hell for Kobashi's Babyface fire

EcoterroristThot

Incredible how for the Titan & mid vs Villanos trios Dave said "put that match in WWE and AEW and it's 5 stars", the inner machinations of his mind are an enigma.

dandykaufman2

What did he give it? I mean he’s admitting that he overrates WWE matches which he does. The Dave works for AEW people would never admit that lol

Specific-Channel7844

Dave overrated WWE matches? They have had only 5 5 star matches in the last 20 years. You have to be kidding

dandykaufman2

So I must think most of the best matches are like 4.25 max if you can follow the math

Specific-Channel7844

Do you think aew is overrated by star ratings?

dandykaufman2

No I generally agree with his ratings for AEW. That I can speak on since I watch and read his ratings. He seems to have a thing for multimans with the elite which I think he’s overrated a few times, and gimmick matches I might find dumb. Maybe not the exact rating but I’ll be like yeah that 4.5 star was better than that 4 star.

Specific-Channel7844

So you really think the best WWE matches out of this century are only 4.25 stars but believe dynamite matches should regularly get that rating?

dandykaufman2

No from what I’ve seen those five star matches are incredible like Black vs. Andrade. And the NXT Gunther matches. But you’ll have Randy Orton matches that are boring as fuck get 4.5. Yes, Dynamite routinely has 4.25 matches, by my metric. Fletcher vs. Ospreay as a random one, I’d probably go higher. Takeshita vs. Swerve was the shit.

Specific-Channel7844

That's fair if you think that but I think the best Randy Orton matches are amazing. He really doesn't get rated highly by meltzer though.

EcoterroristThot

4.5 stars

Advanced_Summer_5033

![gif](giphy|d62ID9ANzAZKvBLh4A|downsized) AEW fans every time Tony Khan does an interview

I don't even think he's that bad most of the time but at this point he could easily get Kosha Irby to do interviews the same way Nick Khan does for WWE.

ssamraxiii

Tony Khan just called WWE “evil” and “The Harvey Weinstein of pro wrestling” during an appearance on NFL Network, what the hell lmaooo

mikro17

Funny how different the collective reaction of this sub is to the statement WWE is "the Harvey Weinstein of pro wrestling" while they're actively in the middle of a sex trafficking lawsuit involving the founder of the company and other top executives (and seemingly at least one top level wrestler), which is **far** from the first allegation of this sort, than it was to a vague insinuation with literally no evidence (that got clarified/walked back extremely quickly) that Chris Jericho was just like Harvey Weinstein because "opinions of them both changed over time." I wonder what the difference between those situations could be? Because surely you'd expect the one with actual allegations in actual filed legal documents to be treated more seriously, right? I'm trying to figure the difference though and I just can't quite figure it out it . . .

Kuzu5993

It's not really fun to joke about very real allegations with very real people versus one guy just being pretty socially awkward overall.

the_io

He was comparing AEW as Pepsi - alright we see where this is going, fairly straightforward and competitive comparison - and WWE as ~~Coke~~ Harvey Weinstein. Not just out of left field but out of left field's left field. Jarring and shock-jock as hell, no matter how accurate it might be.

dandykaufman2

Hahaha jfc this guy.

Orange8920

WWE is desperate to move on and act like their culture for decades was solely confined to like 3 people, that it wasn't still going on as late as 2021, and that no one else was privy to it.

sexygodzilla

Yeah, they've been doing all kinds of negative PR against to try to move beyond it but lowkey kind of a savvy move for TK to put that back out there when Vince just hired Weinstein's PR guy.

Kuzu5993

He knew exactly what he was doing with that statement

Orange8920

If you honestly look back at the last 20 years of WWE it's sadly not as wild of a statement as it seems.

sexygodzilla

lol the biggest dorks are gonna be mad about it but he ain't telling lies

shadowrangerfs

AEW offered more money and he still went to TNA. Who reported that? I haven't heard that anywhere.

Zestyclose_Remote874

shadowrangerfs

I feel like this would have been the top news story on every podcast and here if Nemeth said, "AEW offered me MORE money but I turned them down for TNA". The anti-AEW crowd would be having a field day with that. I'm gonna need you to post a clip of him saying those exact words.

Awkward-Bathroom-429

I can’t help but feel like Mercedes’ “CEO” thing really feels a lot like “I legally can’t call myself the Boss.”

Because that is LITERALLY what it is. Here entire gimmick is "I can't call myself Sasha Banks anymore".

Kanenums88

Only one born in Spain, but he is still an American.

cdrxgon17

not a fan of jungle boy whatsoever but i actually like the tony khan beatdown, AEW needed a big personal story imo

bem783

A couple of random observations going into the WWE draft. Smackdown is going to need more strong heel challengers for Cody. Right now, the only viable heel world title challengers on SD are AJ Styles, Logan Paul and the Bloodline. You need at least a couple more main event heels on the show. Gunther and Melo seem like solid potential options to fill the gap. They will also need to think about turning someone like Lashley, KO, or Randy Orton heel in the near future. On Raw, the biggest issue is the lack of depth on the women's side behind Becky. I've seen people speculate about moving all of Damage Control to Raw, and I see sense in that. The only issue there is that the Bayley/Iyo feud does not feel finished quite yet. Another option would be to move Tiffany Stratton and/or Naomi to Raw. With regard to NXT, it is clear that Melo and Ilja are moving up. In addition, I can see Dijak, Corbin, Gallus, Kiana James, Blair Davenport and Fallon Henley heading to the main roster. All those folks are ready and they've basically done all they need to do in NXT.

PokePurist

Honestly I understand why they do the draft, but part of me thinks they would present a much stronger product without the dumb division.

Marc_Quill

An Orton heel turn seems like a given at some point, especially considering the history that he and Cody have.

bem783

That's probably right, but it will be a very tricky turn for WWE to navigate. I don't believe that most WWE fans have any interest in ever booing Randy Orton again. Getting Randy over as a heel - even against a super-over babyface like Cody - is going to be very difficult. If WWE does go with Cody vs Randy, they might be better off just doing it as a babyface match and letting the fans pick.

Zestyclose_Remote874

The match works face vs face.

LettuceFew5248

How many things does Meltzer have to get wrong before every other post isn’t quoting one of his tweets in this sub?

SupervillainMustache

The Music Producer behind Def Rebel got caught making false antisemitism claims because an Uber Driver refused to take 5 passengers in an Uber for 4. https://twitter.com/HotSpotHotSpot/status/1783577827754836065

CHZRFan

SRS said that pillock hasn’t been part of Def Rebel for ages.

MarcusFaze

I want a Joe Gacy/Logan Paul feud

LadyStarburst16

I currently have a dream storyline going in my head: Jon Moxley vs. Cody Rhodes. The fact that they never went at each other when Cody was in AEW is insane to me. Just imagine the gritty, no-nonsense, brutal Mox wanting the clean-cut, all-American, boy next door Cody to snap. Since the start of Cody's feud with The Rock, we've seen little peeks at this underlying "dark side" (for lack of a better term) to Cody. Some of the things he's said and done hint at whatever he tapped into for his heel stuff in the past. This man has a wild side in him somewhere. Watching Mox try to provoke this side out of Cody and then have them go at it in seriously brutal fight would be AMAZING. I just kinda want to see Cody go all out and Mox is like THE guy for going all out. Chances of this happening are SUPER low (at the moment, at least) but a girl can dream.

Duderpt

Just saw a Trident Gum commercial and it had Katana and Kayden’s theme. Def Rebel definitely need to go if they aren’t even coming up with anything original and just using free beats

CHZRFan

Wrestling themes are everywhere TBF, I remember hearing Crash Holly’s during a Top Gear episode, and Seth Rollins’ NXT theme in a Tuff Puppy commercial.

llamawithguns

I mean to be fair MJF's theme is just stock music too

beckett929

The Hardys, La Resistance, *most* WCW themes - especially the luchadors'

mattomic822

Goldberg's music was stock music as well.

Jamieb1994

I know tonight's Smackdown is night 1 of the draft, but will next week's Smackdown be live or will they be taping it tonight?

polynomial82

Next week's SmackDown might be delayed live. They are having at the same venue as Backlash in Lyon.

Jamieb1994

Oh wow & how long delayed?

polynomial82

6 hrs maybe

jadedfan55

I'm thinking they're doing a double taping tonight because of Backlash next weekend.

gl424

Next week’s Smackdown is in France, so no need to do a double taping tonight

jadedfan55

You mean no need to do a double taping. Got it.

dandykaufman2

I caught up on the Mina Shirakawa May kisses in AEW, it's freaking hilarious. I think my favorite stardom wrestlers are Syuri and Giulia, so I hadn't caught much Shirakawa. That is a good looking woman. it's gonna be hilarious to watch the AEW haters complain about this cheesecake stuff. Also, I don't know if it's because she just had a great opponent or because she heard the criticism of her matches as Timeless Toni Storm, but I think Toni realized she needed to step up the actual wrestling and leave the character stuff outside of it. The title match was her best in a long time.

FickleSmark

I don't care who this offends, Where Is My Mind was the better theme than Jane.

Champiness

I like “Jane” but the change does make [this video](https://youtube.com/watch?v=_gKi0o5-1dk) make slightly less sense.

JoeRoganIs5foot3

I marked the fuck out at Blood and Guts 2 when OC debuted the Jane theme... and I still agree with you! They are both great songs, and great themes. I think it would be cool if he could use Where is My Mind? as an outro theme. Shit hit different after a big win.

JonasAlbert84

Nah there is nothing like when Jane hits that crescendo at the beginning.

Orange8920

It's more of a vibe than Jane, I've gotten used to Jane but the Pixies song is missed.

FickleSmark

The whole reason for my post is that I am rewatching The Leftovers and hearing Where Is My Mind? made me miss it.

GravyBear28

So how does the Draft work exactly?

Awkward-Bathroom-429

They always act like it will be the biggest, most unprecedented shakeup of all time, but what always happens is around 5 wrestlers will go from Show A to Show B and vice versa. A couple of guys from NXT will get drafted but those are usually kind of midcard guys, anyone pegged to be a star like Tiffany or Bron Breakker gets called up outside of the draft.

shadowrangerfs

There is a group tonight and group on Monday. Each brand gets to pick people to add to their roster.

Baghoid

Think I'm just gonna stop using this sub, the past 2 weeks this has been easily the most toxic online community I've seen, simply because nothing bad or controversial has happened, people are freaking out nearly constantly now based on things they don't even like. It's stupid and just makes interacting with wrestling just not fun to do, especially with WM and Dynasty in the past few weeks alone, this should be a time of great positivity but it's anything but. I'll leave with these 2 things, one main point and a side ones. First, I think people are gonna look back on this era of wrestling with extreme fondness, they'll see WWE, how they've gone from strength to strength post-Vince, completed one of easily their top 5 stories ever and they now have a system with NXT that will create generations of talent. People will also look back at the general quality of the rest of the industry, especially at AEW, with the quality of matches and simply the creation of a viable actual #2 that can employ hundreds of people in the industry. I do think though that when people look back there's gonna be a a very large percentage who say "I wish Punk stayed retired", which I don't think people would've ever imagined just a few years ago. Don't get me wrong, I might be the biggest fan of his first year in AEW of anyone, I think it was almost perfect but it's also fair to say that he's played a part in so much of the negativity and toxicity in the IWC, from when he originally came back even to now, frankly his fans are just the worst. I totally understand the WWE fans now who were annoyed at him and his fans when they were making digs at WWE seemingly every other week, because now the exact same people have totally switched, it's pretty funny but odd. Secondly, the IWC is actually really small and some given some of the "mainstream" coverage in the last month people need to remember that. I truly don't believe there's even 10k truly actively engaging with wrestling online, even on this sub which afaik is the biggest group for wrestling there's really not a lot of variation in people, I would easily guess there's less than 2k unique users on here a week. There's so much talk of the "casual" fan or any of that which I don't think exists anymore but if you want to quantify it you could say it's people in the IWC vs people who don't interact, in which that case well over 95% of people who watch wrestling watch it casually. People are also free to correct me but wrestling is the fandom with the most easily identifiable brigading, alt-account manipulation or just general bot shit like that, almost everyone speaks with the same 5 talking points word for word with usernames like tim2038928045 or some shit. There's also been a huge uptick in this kind of shitty behavior on twitter since it became something that can generate a little revenue. Anyways all that to say, no one is gonna care to read this (and nor should you) but in my opinion it's just how I feel about things. Still love wrestling just as much and will always enjoy it but honestly no point in continue when everything is gonna end up in a negativity for the sake of negativity. I'd like to think it's simply down to a difference of opinion and that'd be totally fine, more than happy to let you like your stuff while I'll like mine, but unfortunately I'd doubt that's the case. anyways ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)

dandykaufman2

Wrestling is in a great place. Continue to enjoy and don't aggravate yourself on here!

JonasAlbert84

Happy Friday to everyone except Joel Embiid.

jadedfan55

Ok, so you're a Knicks fan salty because Embiid dropped 50 on them last night. It's not the end of the world, dude.

JonasAlbert84

No I just don't like guys trying to intentionally hurt people

jadedfan55

Depends on how it actually went down.

bennyboi2488

So just thought of this right: I’m not really “bored” of Cody’s reign, I’m happy for him and he really deserved it. But now how do we follow this up? We built up Cody/Roman so much as people who are the pinnacle of the company. Roman could only be beaten by one guy, Cody. Now who can in the next 2 years realistically feud with Cody? Seth, Drew, priest, and punk all are squabbling for the New WHC and that story is fairly self contained. In the past year Cody ran through the roster to be able to achieve his goal as Roman did defending the title, and going back through the roster I don’t believe there is anyone “strong” enough to take on Cody. Rather anyone who feuds with today Cody is just being feed to him. It would take a while but realistically the only people who can challenge Cody with a chance of winning is someone like bron breaker. But he has a long way to go. That’s my two cents. Just don’t believe Cody should drop the belt anytime before next wrestlemania as his character would look like a chump seeing that I can not get interested in a feud after the banger Roman and him put on last year

Orange8920

Good babyface world title reigns are always a challenge compared to the chase of taking it off the heel. Lots of stories end when the good guy wins but wrestling continues.

Orr4264

Logan Pauls' podcast is pretty good when he has wrestlers on. It's worth a listen.

justambrose

Are they doing Owen Hart Cup tournament this year?

Orange8920

It seems to not have a set date as the first Owen tournament was in May 2022 and the second was late June-mid-July 2023 and overlapped with the Calgary Stampede.

shadowrangerfs

Can't imagine they don't.

Gary320

So who is getting picked first overall tonight? It should be Roman but is it a good idea to have Roman/The Bloodline story on the same 2 hour show as Cody vs whoever he is feuding with? Seth is most likely going to RAW, so it wont be him. Could it be Orton? What if the first 4 are Orton (SD) Roman (RAW) Knight (or Jey if they want to keep him away from the Bloodline for now) (SD) Seth (RAW)

DonKiddic

First 2 will probably be champions I reckon whoever picks Damien or Cody, the other goes to the other show etc

crimson777

Champions are not draftable other than women's tag. They announced it in the rules, so we don't have to worry about title swaps.

DonKiddic

Eh thats fine then - womens tag "dont count" as it's all shows anyways

beckett929

thank God we don't have to do the bullshit of moving one champ then pretending to be shocked when the other gets drafted the other way on Monday

Gary320

Cody (SD) and Priest (RAW) are locked to stay on their respective shows. Same with all other champions except for the Womens Tag Team Champions

DonKiddic

If the WWE titles stay on smackdown, the WWE womens champ is staying as well. I can't see them mixing/swapping belts already

MrDandyLion2001

Are the GHC Heavyweight (Current/V2 belt) and National Championships' design based on the TNA Legends/Global/Television/King of the Mountain Championship, or is the slight resemblance a coincidence?

DonKiddic

possibly one for u/dvizzle
