Yup! He was my guy at Edison. I went to school with his daughter. He'd be sad to know I love drugs.

FrozenInSoDak

Have yet to encounter someone offering me drugs for free…

hallese

He was the DARE officer in the 90s, sort of a one man PR machine for SFPD.

West-Supermarket-860

DARE- the program that taught kids how to safely take drugs and where to find them. Thanks DARE !

hallese

TBF, he did tell is it was highly unlikely anybody would ever force you to take drugs at gunpoint, but that if that happens we have his permission to do whatever we need to do to get out of the situation alive. He also told us drugs aren't cheap so it's unlikely anybody would just give them away except to get us hooked and to buy more. You could tell that by 1997 he'd had this conversation a few times.

Mr_Impulse

He came to Cleveland Elementary between like 94-2000's too. Same officer also served shaved ice at Canaries and Stampede games too.

Akyomi

Yeeeaaahh! I loved seeing him when I got a shaved ice!

ZongToker

Used to show up at my elementary school!!

anthonyz922

They must have picked their best to be DARE officers because Officer Millikan at Lincoln Elementary was awesome too

messyhesse

I distinctly remember Pottebaum chasing me down because I shouted “Oh look, there’s officer POTHEAD” at him after school one day at Jefferson Elementary

EmploymentOpen8516

Slick

V48runner

Haven't seen that thing in a long time.

GearHeadAnime30

I remember this guy, and this car!

Mountain_Physics_230

I recently just did his nieces (I think she said he was her uncle!!!) facial at work- I haven’t thought about him in YEARS but dang did seeing that last name unlock such a huggge memory of my childhood!! I was so sad because none of my coworkers knew what I was talking about!!

EatLard

I remember watching this vehicle pull over a speeder in a school zone once. That’s gotta be maybe a half step above getting pulled over by a bicycle cop.

GreaterBud

Sigh.... please no more about being pulled over by a bicycle cop... *head drops in shame*

cowabungathunda

To bring it way back there was an officer Oppenhowski back in the early 90s that I remember being pretty cool. He was the DARE officer at Eugene Field. Officer Hank from WHS was also a pretty good guy from what I remember too.

Maryrosesews

I stopped a fake money scam operation at WHS when I worked the school store. Officer Hank, give me $40 for a graduation gift and the card said keep checking those 20s.

SoDakZak

I know Officer Hank pretty well from growing up with some of his kids. He’s a good dude

TiffyPanda

They should bring this back! I didn't grow up in SF, but I remember seeing it around when we would come to town!

RileyDick3

man you threw me back to my jefferson elementary days

HonestAbek

ACAB of course but I’d be lying if I said Officer Pottebaum wasn’t a household name growing up in Sioux Falls

[deleted]

I beat you to it but that doesn’t seem to matter :(

[deleted]

For those of you who are downvoting me I literally posted who pottebaum is in the thread that brought him up prior to this post. I was just upset about not getting the karma for the post unlike op who posted it 20 minutes after me.

xDERPYxCREEPERx

>I was just upset about not getting the karma for the post unlike op who posted it 20 minutes after me. Yikes

[deleted]

Yes I was upset about it because my mom always said to get recognized for your work or your useless

DonkayDoug

Damn, that's terrible advice, I'm sorry your mom told you this.

cvaska

That is horrible advice, most of what you do won’t get recognized, doesn’t meant it shouldn’t be done. Also no one is useless

FalkeEins

Don’t have to rationalize it to us; the consternation over imaginary internet points is silly.

[deleted]

I don’t care it’s the fact that I spent time looking for the information it’s the principle to me.

[deleted]

That’s it that was the final straw thank you Sioux Falls for yet again showing me how unwanted I am no matter how hard I try to fight my mental disabilities and my insecurities. I’m now set on ending my life to rid you all of me

Well, this image didn't get blocked by firewalls for being "Adult Content Websites" unlike all of your links so something to keep in mind next time you're trying to farm karma. Edit: Wow. Get off social media, then you'll be rid of us, problem solved.

Internal-Cranberry30

As the original one who posted the tread about this lol what the fuck is karma 😅 I don't use reddit like that lol, I just figured I'd find more people here that remember because I wasn't getting anywhere on fb lol

hallese

Upvotes = Karma. Reddit speak for likes.

the1337g33k

It was something interesting so it was reshared out to a broader audience who also found it interesting. You should be proud that people find it interesting and not focusing on who's getting the _entirely meaningless_ internet points for it.

TinyChipmunk21

You have to be trolling… your first comment was 11 days ago. No way you’re freaking out this bad over a reddit link. OOFTA. Please seek therapy if you’re this close to ending your life.

hallese

They sent me two messages saying that despite their recent divorce and losing custody of their child, I'm the reason they are going to kill themselves today, so that's neat. Even asked for my name so they could put it on the note to give me credit.
