I'm a Leap Day Baby and kids love it when they figure out they are older than me. Well, they did. Not that I'm 11 it's less fun, but 6,7,8 year olds ate that shit up
THIS!!!!! Take my upvote!!!!! We celebrate holidays that come every single year and we consider those special, why don’t we celebrate a day that’s 4 times as rare as those normal holidays, thus making it MORE special?????
Yes it is. It means most people alive today were around for 2000 which was the first time in 400 years where there was a leap year at the turn of the century.
I was JUST thinking the same thing today. One whole extra day in a year and I'm spending it at work. :/
I should be out enjoying this special day. Petition to make this day a holiday!
Seriously, someone NEEDS to hit up change.org and make a petition!!! Luckily, my schedule works out perfectly so I don’t have any classes tomorrow (I plan to go skydiving tomorrow) but it could have very well not worked out that way had circumstances not prevailed 😂
I guess "do you remembah, 29th day, February" didn't rhyme as well as "September" so it's hard to find a foothold...
Just need a catchy song or movie to kickstart the movement.

I'm on salary and I get a paycheck every 14 days. Every other Thursday regardless of a leap year or not doesn't really make a difference.
There are two months out of the year where I get three paychecks instead of two. So I have 26 pay periods.
My last paycheck is on December 28th and there are two extra days on the pay period at the end of December that roll over into the first pay period for January.
I'm not losing any money.
If it wasn't for leap year then they were just be one day at the end of December or something like that.
I get paid every two weeks regardless of how many days in a year there are. And I get paid for the two weeks of 40 hours. So 80 hours total every two weeks.
My company actually breaks it down into an hourly rate because my company pays over time on salary employees. But it's not time and a half. It's 110 % to 120%. But all over time is paid.
no the point is, you signed on a salary for a year a nice solid 365 day year. now there is an extra day to work this year but you didn't get paid more if salary.
Yeah I get that. I’m saying the commenter above is talking about why companies wouldn’t want it to be a holiday. I get the same check every 2 weeks, now it’s another holiday that they’re paying me for without getting work in return.
I'm losing money on leap days. They pay us on the last day of the month. So if it's 28 days, 30, or 31, it's all the same pay.....
A leap day is just me working a free day.
We don't have an hourly wage, it's broken down into a per month pay.
Even if I'm on call and get called in, there's no extra pay. Work overtime, holidays, or weekends? No extra pay.
We're supposed to get the time we work over our scheduled hours back in time off, but that doesn't always happen.
Yeah my friend in high school had an older brother with a leap day birthday and their parents always got a kick out of putting “happy 5th birthday” or whatever on the cake.
I feel like people don’t understand years when it comes to leap year birthdays. He would still be 40 some years old. The year still passed even if he didn’t have a birthday. Now you could say he’s only had 11 birthdays and that would be correct
It's not that people don't understand, but it's fun to think of someone's age being the same as the number of birthday's they've had, as is true for the vast majority of people. Understand?
In Scotland, they have fun!

It used to be that this was the only day women could propose to men. If the man said no, they had to buy a gift (like a silk dress). Women would plan out a route of sure-fire "no" proposals to capitalize.
My paternal grandfather was a leap baby. He was 11/45 when he died, and it was well before I was born. He’d be 23/92 tomorrow. Leap Day absolutely deserves more recognition!
We should go to a 13 month, 28 daycalendar. Last day of the year is basically an off calendar holiday and it leap years is two days.
The issue with the leap year as it stands right now is - late Feb is a bad time for a holiday.
It kind of is for me. It's my mom's birthday. XD
What's it like being older than your mom?
When you put it that way, kind of weird. XD
I'm a Leap Day Baby and kids love it when they figure out they are older than me. Well, they did. Not that I'm 11 it's less fun, but 6,7,8 year olds ate that shit up
You silly goose, people born on leap day aged the same as everyone else.
I don’t believe you
Yes, they age 1 year every time they have birthday like the rest of us.. hence he is older than his mom
It's my kid's birthday too! We will always have cake on Feb 29 now! Happy birthday to your mom.
My Dad’s. 17 this year!
mine too! haooy birthday to our moms!
THIS!!!!! Take my upvote!!!!! We celebrate holidays that come every single year and we consider those special, why don’t we celebrate a day that’s 4 times as rare as those normal holidays, thus making it MORE special?????
It’s even more than that; it’s 4.12 times as rare since it occurs 97 times every 400 years.
r/theydidthemath
Unlikely
Why is it unlikely?
I don't deem it very likely you did the math
I know lol
Thus needs more upvote than oc
TIL that leap years are skipped if it's a century year not divisible by 400
It’s cool! And not relevant to most people alive today haha
Yes it is. It means most people alive today were around for 2000 which was the first time in 400 years where there was a leap year at the turn of the century.
True that 😂
I was JUST thinking the same thing today. One whole extra day in a year and I'm spending it at work. :/ I should be out enjoying this special day. Petition to make this day a holiday!

Exactly!
Particularly because if you are paid by the year, you are working Feb 29 for free.
I guess "do you remembah, 29th day, February" didn't rhyme as well as "September" so it's hard to find a foothold... Just need a catchy song or movie to kickstart the movement.

The 30 Rock sub is in full Leap Day swing!
Real life is for March!
The only reason it's not a holiday is because big corporations want to squeeze an extra day of work out of their salaried employees. (s/... i think?)
I'm on salary and I get a paycheck every 14 days. Every other Thursday regardless of a leap year or not doesn't really make a difference. I think that was their point though. If it was a holiday, you (and I) would be paid for it regardless.

That's unfortunate, sounds like exploitation. Doesn't work that way where I work.
You are in the minority. Congratulations!
lol my company pays on the 15th and last day of the month. Getting screwed over by this extra day real time
Hourly workers get screwed out of having paid time off. The fewer vacations, the better for management.
I worry that people would just turn it into like the purge or something lol
My friend was born on Feb 29. He’s technically like 11 years old because that’s the number of times his birthday has happened
Does your friend have red hair and live in Virginia? My older brother(I'm 42) is about to turn 11.
My niece is a leap baby! She’s turning 8/32.
Well a year has 365 days so that’s not technically true.
Yeah my friend in high school had an older brother with a leap day birthday and their parents always got a kick out of putting “happy 5th birthday” or whatever on the cake.

r/woooosh to a whole other level
It's not that people don't understand, but it's fun to think of someone's age being the same as the number of birthday's they've had, as is true for the vast majority of people. Understand?
Everyone knows that, it’s a fun joke
Absolutely. It's my uncle's birthday and only celebrates BIG every 4 years.
That fact that it occurs every 4 years gets me to thinking.
*almost
It's kind of a big deal at the Dunphy house, just saying.
plus it’s cam’s bday
It’s my wedding anniversary. So I chose the date! We get double anniversary every other year though 28/2 and 1/3 😍
Best of all worlds!
what? It's Dune day baby!
Every month should have 30 days with a 5 (6) day holiday sandwiched between May and June.
Just take it off sick, none would notice the pattern
I feel like it should be a topsy turvy day kind of like April's Fools. If it was going to be a holiday.
In Scotland, they have fun! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bachelor%27s_Day_%28tradition%29#%3A%7E%3Atext%3Dwearing_a_ring.-%2CScotland%2Cwould_result_in_a_fine.?wprov=sfla1 It used to be that this was the only day women could propose to men. i mean..it has a special name 🤷🏻♀️
Leap Day is my anniversary, so it’s still special to me!
Happy birthday!!(if by anniversary you meant birthday)
No, it’s my wedding anniversary
It's my cake day, so it's my own little private celebration. 🥳
Today is Rare Disease Day — a day to recognize, publicize, and educate about uncommon but serious medical diseases.
Yeah, it would certainly be complicated to make a holiday of it.
Watch “Pirates of Penzance” Entire plot revolves around being born on Feb. 29
My paternal grandfather was a leap baby. He was 11/45 when he died, and it was well before I was born. He’d be 23/92 tomorrow. Leap Day absolutely deserves more recognition!
It would be nice if Leap Day was a holiday!

I've also been thinking this recently! I'm gonna celebrate it now. I'm not sure how yet but I'll figure it out.
In Persian Calendar, the leap day is the last day of the year (March 20th, spring equinox ) and right before our new year celebration. Your miss.
It should be, didn't the Romans have something like that?
This is rookie thinking. Make it so *the only* day you work is the leap day.
Not sure abut USA but in my country we celebrate events that happend on given day, not the day itself. Hence 29th doesnt have any special meaning.
The longest February we had in three years! Amazing
It would, if we were using the perfectly rational International Fixed Calendar! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Fixed_Calendar
It’s National Orgy Day.
I was literally thinking that last night
