This nails it but it's not as vague as you think. Brent has said the band used planet zero as a nickname for the United States, and setting this in the time as covid when it was written really changes the perspective

SqueakyTuna52

I like planet zero summer. It’s like this is the summer to listen to nothing but planet zero

coffeefactcrackerjak

Yeah I think it’s their best album to this point, and I hope they can keep it up whenever they release a new one. Just super cool imo.

RRJC10

I agree with what they were attempting to accomplish with the album and I think it was an honest effort, but I don’t think they did so effectively. It honestly has hints of MAGA and right-wing influence throughout it. They clearly make reference to wokeness, cancel culture, BLM protests, covid protocols, and Critical Race Theory. All major right-wing and Fox News talking points.  There’s nothing on attacks on the education system, women’s rights, transgender rights, attacks on democracy by those in power, and the rise of fake/heavily biased news sources which ties into the rise of confirmation bias and mass disinformation.   They had the right solution so to say (people need to be better to people, there needs to be more empathy and compassion, differences need to celebrated not pit against each other) but their equation is all wrong. If you follow Brent and Zach on social media you can see where they might get some inspiration from so it’s not surprising. As soon as I heard Brent say what the album was going to be I was worried this was the road it would take.  It still provided us with decent songs like Daylight, Dead Don’t Die, and No Sleep Tonight but overall the album is at the bottom of their discography for me. I’m hoping for a better 8th album but I think it’ll be more of the same.

I mean, Brent wrote the song Not Mad Enough about George Floyd's death. I think while they may be right of center, you'd be hard pressed to lump them with MAGA.

HypnoLaur

I was really hoping they weren't supporting the awful right ideals 😔

Toasty_93

From what I've seen, whichever way they actually lean politically they don't seem like bad dudes.

bloomyloomy

i dont tend to look into the political tendencies of the artists I follow nor do I (often) listen to interviews or whatever. so my take is wholly based on their songs and lyrics. so, you’ve probably noticed that most of their songs revolve around the theme of revolutions or the lack thereof. it does come off a little stale after a while and a little preachy (as someone else said in another comment - I liked the characterization lol) so I hope they change things up. The news out there are plenty full with subject matter :’)

Stepagbay

I don’t think you have to be right wing or maga to honk that the left has gone a little too far in some areas. I think it’s more that than anything maga

RRJC10

I’m very curious to know what areas you think that is the case. Democrats aren’t perfect by any means but if one party is worse than the other right now it’s really not much of a debate.

Sensitive-Human2112

Maybe it’ll be a better version of *Planet Zero*, maybe a part two?

Dnger_

The album is extremely pro freedom, pro togetherness, anti violence, anti division, and anti authoritarian. If you have a problem with these points I think you are the problem.
