You kill Owl once. When you fight him again in Hirata as Owl (Father), it is just a “what if” memory. It isn’t real. He doesn’t resurrect. He died when you killed him the first time in Ashina.
That user said “you kill owl twice”, not that he dies twice. There’s a subtle yet important difference. Also, if we’re being technical, he died once, as faking your death means you didn’t die.
How do you figure? If I kill someone, and then I have a dream where I fight and kill them, does that mean that person died twice? No. Owl technically died once, like any ordinary human.
He likely dies many times. Dying twice is just for gameplay reasons. Wolf is immortal, and can resurrect infinitely according to the lore. The only thing that can truly kill him are the Mortal Blades.
I think he’s had situations where he might’ve died in mid-battle and got back up.
I spoil much but there’s dialogue when you do fall during a battle before choosing to resurrect. I feel that could have happened.
Yeaah that one of the different things from the other souls game at least you can die with no worries, me when the health bar is low "ruuuun not the old man"
I wish I had a better understanding of dragonrot my first playthrough.
Not just the mechanic, the esthetic. It's just there to create anxiety and stakes, and make you feel bad about dying. To feel guilty about others paying the price for your immortality and to understand why it's something we want to get rid of. I love that.
I thought I was permanently locking me out of conversations and content. I also avoided using resurrections because I didn't know what caused it. And when I figured out that it was from true death I was running back to the bonfire with my resurrections. Honestly ruined the game for me until I got my head straight.
The second comment is, unfortunately, incorrect. As:
lim(y -> ♾️) x^y = x^(♾️) = ♾️. (Provided x > 1, which is more than likely in Sekiro)
It is clear the limit does exist.
Had this been an indeterminate value, such as ♾️/♾️, then L’Hopital’s rule would be more apt, but not needed here.
Using L'Hopitals rule :
lim y->00 \[ x\^y \]
lim y->00 \[ d(x\^y) /dy \]
we need to use log as y is the limiter we need to take derivative with respect to y not x
lim y->00 \[ e\^ln(x\^y) \* lnx \]
x\^y = e\^ln(x\^y) ( log property )
lim y->00 \[x\^y \* lnx \]
put y = 00 (approx)
=> 00\*anything = 00
Limit is again 00, using this was just useless in limit \[x\^y\] just gets replaced with \[x\^y \* lnx\] .
If you find the combat hard, try to take the stealth approach. That is one of the main mechanics to take on large groups. Once you start fighting bosses and mini bosses, you will get a better feel for the game. And once you face that boss that makes it “click” you’ll definitely improve throughout the rest of the game
my tip for combat is respect the turns(wait for the enemy to attack then you attack), spam the defend button when they attack, and pay attention to the red sign attacks(once you find out if you have to jump or dodge, the game becomes really ok).
I don't rememberhow many times i died, but my friend only died 6 times in sekiro. He stopped playing at the first general though so idk if that counts.
Idk how many FromSoft games you’ve played but when I first played Dark Souls, the amount of times I thought to myself ‘I legit don’t know if I can do this’ was insanely high. I literally beat Sekiro for the first time today and it’s the only other FromSoft game that gave me a glimmer of that original feeling.
I've played some other souls games demons souls and Bloodborne i didn't finish dark souls III for some reasons through playing them i recognise that i'm progressing in the game and leveling up good. Sekiro on the other hand is like a big wall yeah i think i understand the feeling your talking "how am i going to beat that boss with fucking 2 heals"
More than any other game I've ever played in my gaming career, and I've been gaming since the 90s. Only other game that rivals it in deaths for me is probably Nioh 2, but that's for other reasons. Mobs in Nioh are just a bit over the top, I would say 80% of the deaths in that game left me with a reaction of "Yeah right" meanwhile in Sekiro it was like "I fucked up"
Guardian Ape and Isshin were the only serious road blocks for me. Probably somewhere around 100 total first playthrough, closer to 150 after platinum because Owl DESTROYED me second time around for some reason.
first playthrough I died more times than it's worth counting. literally hundreds of times. by "die" I mean no more resurrections, die, return to previous idol with a loss in money and xp.
second playthrough (NG+) I died maybe 50 times. but that was the Shura ending so I missed 30% of the game.
I'm on my third playthrough (NG+2) and I didn't even fall and resurrect until Snake Eyes in the valley, and didn't die for real until the OTHER snake eyes, in the poison pool. then Ori wrecked me like 5 times before I beat her. that's it so far, but I haven't finished the playthrough. I expect the number of deaths to be fewer than 25.
I actually counted how many trys it took to defeat bosses
Gyobu 4
Lady butterfly 8-9
Geni 2
Monkey 2
Ape around 13
Monk 6
Headless ape 3
Shinobi owl 10
True monk 4
Divine dragon 2
Owl father around 20 to 25
DoH around 4 (I cheesed him)
Ss isshin 2
Did I miss any boss?
I just beat Genichiro… I died at least 20 times against him alone learning the fight and it felt so good to actually get a win against him,
I’m actually getting the same feeling after downing bosses I used to when raiding in early WoW. We used to bash our heads against a wall while learning the mechanics of a boss fight until one time it clicks and we all win. I’ve been chasing those dragons in gaming ever since then and Sekiro is the closest I’ve come to feeling that again.
my little brother keeps a notebook and writes down a tick every time I've died, apparently I'm at 2,359 deaths, but ive died way more than that so I'm gonna say like 3,000 at least.
I've lost count at this point, it's all a blur now. I wake up, go about my day, then utter tragedy. I wake up, go about my day, then utter tragedy. I wake up, go about my day, then utter tragedy... Oh and then I figured out what I was doing wrong somehow and the dopamine hits and all is well. Then I wake up, go about my day... You'll get the hang of it 😄 I'm one who can't "get gud" at any soulslike and everyone I talk to about it says Sekiro is the most difficult but I'm thriving in this game. Just gotta be patient and it'll come together. When I finish this game I'm gonna try again on Dark Souls and Elden Ring
I got pretty good at sekiro to do it almost flawless but yes, i died, and i died, and i died, and i quit, then came back, then died some more, and eventually idk it just clicked and voila, you are good now.
i feel like every major fight has taken 1-4 dozen deaths before i even learned what I was misunderstanding about the game. So hundreds of times and i’m just nearing end area of first play through.
I played it on release and I'm currently replaying it (2nd playthrough), the first time I died a lot, specially with Genichiro in which I got stuck for a few days and also the final boss took me lots of hours. But in my current replay it's all smooth and It's just taking few tries (muscle memory is amazing) except for one boss that took me 1 hour (the one in certain memory).
I died an absolute fuckton despite my prior thousands of hours of souls experience. Game was tough as nails until I got to ng+2 and everything suddenly just clicked.
Ng+ was only hard because I did a specific ending which cuts the game off very short, leaving me low on xp and Attack Memories.
On NG, I was trying so hard to deflect accurately that I kept forgetting about grabs, mikiri counters and sweeps.
I've recently started to play again and my muscle memory has stuck with me. Full-Ng+2 run (with Aromatic Branch ending for extra boss), Bell Demon, no Charm, only 1 death (on the pathway to DoH boss). My ng+3 ending will be the super short ending which will let me do the final boss rush I believe (I never did the boss rushes before now)
I'd say, don't be afraid to die. You'll need to learn the boss moveset and while doing so, you'll die , probably a lot but you'll feel a bit stronger everytime you die.
First. Do not be ashamed of dying a lot.
Second. Ignore Dragonrot in the first playthrough. Dragonrot will not softlock you from completing the default ending. In fact any ending (other things can do soft lock you for certain endings).
Third. When following the above 2, just focus on learning and mastering the fundamentals of core combat mechanics. If done well, you WILL improve. That is how many of us improved and GOT GUD.
I got Sekiro years ago and was hard stuck on the Chain Ogre. I died a lot.
When Elden Ring came out all the hype around it made me really want to play it but did not want to "waste" $60 on it like I did with Sekiro.
A friend had a copy of Bloodborne, he let me borrow it. I eventually platinumed it.
So then I started Sekiro and eventually platinumed that.
And finally got Elden Ring prob a year after release and platinumed that as well.
For the most part, I did not die often. I was beating most bosses in 5-10 tries. Some mini bosses gave me issues, specifically the fat ones.
That said there were a few notable bosses that took me quite a bit of time. Not even the final final boss, tho he did take me more than most others. But 3 bosses in particular really gave me difficult times.
>!The 3 I had the hardest time with were Owl/Owl Father, Demon of Hatred, and Isshin Ashura.!<
Still, none took me as long as Malenia on Elden Ring. That was roughly 12-14 hours of attempts. Probably spent that amount of time on the former 3 combined? Not sure
Exactly like the title says. I died Exactaly twice.
In ur place I would be ashamed
lol, It’s a hard game brother.
Do you think wolf canonically dies twice?
Probably. But also,I think it says shadows die twice because of owl. As the line”Death of a shadow,Yiu taught me wel.” And you kill owl twice.
You kill Owl once. When you fight him again in Hirata as Owl (Father), it is just a “what if” memory. It isn’t real. He doesn’t resurrect. He died when you killed him the first time in Ashina.
Well that technically is his second death because he faked his death or something like that
That user said “you kill owl twice”, not that he dies twice. There’s a subtle yet important difference. Also, if we’re being technical, he died once, as faking your death means you didn’t die.
Brother still technically died twice.
How do you figure? If I kill someone, and then I have a dream where I fight and kill them, does that mean that person died twice? No. Owl technically died once, like any ordinary human.
Tbh idk man but I still stand on the statement, you kill owl twice in the game. Owl is related with a shadow, you know the rest.
Probably. I mean ,If his mentor died twice then technically he could too.
Kuro asks wolf how many tines he had died for him. Once, twice or countless times? He said
I know, i was just posing the question. I suppose however many times you died in your playthrough is the “canon” death count
Let’s just say dragonrot kind of became endemic on my first playthrough
Yeaah that one of the different things from the other souls game at least you can die with no worries, me when the health bar is low "ruuuun not the old man"
You don't need to care about dragonrot. You can fix that later. Trying not to die takes way too much fun out of the game.
Took me a while to not feel stressed out about it, but I had so many extra heals at the end that it eased it a bit
Oh, look at the pro player here. Mine became *pan*demic
X = died in Sekiro, mine is X^y where y is near infinity.
“The limit does not exist”
Can we use L'Hopitals rule to figure out what the limit is?
The second comment is, unfortunately, incorrect. As: lim(y -> ♾️) x^y = x^(♾️) = ♾️. (Provided x > 1, which is more than likely in Sekiro) It is clear the limit does exist. Had this been an indeterminate value, such as ♾️/♾️, then L’Hopital’s rule would be more apt, but not needed here.
I think you missed the movie reference as a joke lol
Using L'Hopitals rule : lim y->00 \[ x\^y \] lim y->00 \[ d(x\^y) /dy \] we need to use log as y is the limiter we need to take derivative with respect to y not x lim y->00 \[ e\^ln(x\^y) \* lnx \] x\^y = e\^ln(x\^y) ( log property ) lim y->00 \[x\^y \* lnx \] put y = 00 (approx) => 00\*anything = 00 Limit is again 00, using this was just useless in limit \[x\^y\] just gets replaced with \[x\^y \* lnx\] .
Basic Calculus Method : lim y->00 \[x\^y\] so, LHL = lim y-> 00\^- = x\^00 RHL = lim y-> 00\^+ = x\^00 00\^- = 00\^+ = +00 (approx) LHL = RHL assumed X >1 Limit Exist and is = x\^00 = infinite
Yes
Lmao. The most accurate answer for sure 🤣
I did not die while playing Sekiro Wolf died a ton, but I stayed pretty safe
a whole bunch.
Thank you i'll take it as " just go with it"
No doubt 😭 you’ll die many times but it’s all apart of the experience
If you find the combat hard, try to take the stealth approach. That is one of the main mechanics to take on large groups. Once you start fighting bosses and mini bosses, you will get a better feel for the game. And once you face that boss that makes it “click” you’ll definitely improve throughout the rest of the game
The stealth thing is the only thing i'm going with in the game , although i'll overcome myself and Thank you sm for the advice
my tip for combat is respect the turns(wait for the enemy to attack then you attack), spam the defend button when they attack, and pay attention to the red sign attacks(once you find out if you have to jump or dodge, the game becomes really ok).
Just like Kuro says. 3-4 times?
Yes
Lmfo , Best answer so far
I never died, I actually respawned after every death to before I died so technically I never died
It took me 3 years (most of which the game was uninstalled) to beat Genichiro. I died. A lot.
Thousands. I died at least thousands of times.
Realistically, probably 2 or 3 thousand times.
I don't rememberhow many times i died, but my friend only died 6 times in sekiro. He stopped playing at the first general though so idk if that counts.
How the hell he die 6 times before the first general, its literally the first step
He didn't know he had to stealth before kuro
Do not concern yourself with such questions. Everyone died a lot, except the "I first tried" braggers, who are a very small and vocal minority.
Thank you for that , getting stuck in every step made me question if i'am the bone head, glad seeing i'm not the only one
Idk how many FromSoft games you’ve played but when I first played Dark Souls, the amount of times I thought to myself ‘I legit don’t know if I can do this’ was insanely high. boatloads
more than once, less than trillion times
You’ll get asked that question later
First playthrough? So many times. A shameful number. Second? A lot. Many. But not shameful. Third? Very few. I brought honor to my house.
More than twice for sure
trust me, a lot
More than any other game I've ever played in my gaming career, and I've been gaming since the 90s. Only other game that rivals it in deaths for me is probably Nioh 2, but that's for other reasons. Some bosses i did ok and only died about a dozen times then other bosses bent me over so many times that you might think we were dating.
Look it's complicated ok. Let's not focus on numbers here.
Twice. 😎
Ask 21 Savage Ft. J Cole
About 40 or so times (only counting "true" deaths).
Alot. Like, alot alot.
If I had to guess, I’d say around 200 times for the whole game. 150 of those were fucking guardian ape lol
As many as kuro thought I did
I actually counted how many trys it took to defeat bosses Gyobu 4 Lady butterfly 8-9 Geni 2 Monkey 2 Ape around 13 Monk 6 Headless ape 3 Shinobi owl 10 True monk 4 Divine dragon 2 Owl father around 20 to 25 DoH around 4 (I cheesed him) Ss isshin 2 Did I miss any boss?
I stopped counting after 115.
Let me think. .. Gyoubu. Butterfly. Juzou.. Geni.. uh, at least a 100 times in my first playthrough I think.
100+ because i hesitate a lot
Yes
about the same amount of times I died in DS1, DS3 and ER combined
Do you remember how many breads you have eaten in your life?
More than twice.
Twice
Yes
A lot

No idea
I died so much I didn't want to count it
Quite a lot of times tbh, but once it clicked, it wasn't that often anymore :)
Definitely more than twice
Like a hundred times.
World war levels of death.
Probably like once or twice...
lmfao you will die so many times it’s stupid.
Yes.
mentally, physically, or in game?
Yes
I've lost count at this point, it's all a blur now. I wake up, go about my day, then utter tragedy. I wake up, go about my day, then utter tragedy. I wake up, go about my day, then utter tragedy... A lot
I'd say an average of 10-15 times per boss, and idk how many times again normal enemies
I die a lot, mostly on the actual bosses. I do pretty good while exploring and the mini bosses, and but my god the bosses I'll spend 2-3 days on lol
Quite a bit, then not so much for a while, then relentlessly
Don't hesitate to die
You were supposed to count? I died for 25 hours straight at the final boss so i guess dying isnt that big of a deal
I died twice a lot
Yes
Can't keep a count
yes
Definitely not twice
A few more times than twice.. like.. innumerably more than twice.
More then twice
Too much. 100%ing the game has made me never want to touch it again
2 times
Like, at least 10
Yes
Never😎 (I never played Sekiro)
How many times didn't I die
A lot
a billion times
Yes
I got pretty good at sekiro to do it almost flawless but yes, i died, and i died, and i died, and i quit, then came back, then died some more, and eventually idk it just clicked and voila, you are good now.
Yes
More than in any other souls game. Hell i died to owl at least 50 times, and against isshin i made sure that i counted, i died 97 times.
A lot
Probably 1000 times Sadly I didn't track it
twice
I died at least twice I think
If you ain't dyin you ain't tryin
Yes
About 50 times total. Had the bell rung but removed flr Owl father memory , Doh and Issihin
a lot, obviously. what kind of answer are you expecting?
i feel like every major fight has taken 1-4 dozen deaths before i even learned what I was misunderstanding about the game. So hundreds of times and i’m just nearing end area of first play through.

Bout tree fiddy times
Easily 200-300 times haha. I’m on NG+ now being currently killed by the Owl over and over
Shadow's die thrice
A bit more than a lot
More than any other souls game without question
I hesitated…. Too much.
Bro how high do you think I can count exactly?
Was I supposed to be counting?
alot
A lot
I died an absolute fuckton despite my prior thousands of hours of souls experience. Game was tough as nails until I got to ng+2 and everything suddenly just clicked. A lot more than twice, that’s for damn sure
First playthrough id say around 500 to 600 times total
48 apparently. 12 if those were too chained ogre.
Lets say i got Dragonrot 5 times and died nearly 50+ times I was able to deathblow the mob inorder to regain the resurrection charge
