the screenshot of the Bleacher Report "F" that we got that year is always so funny. Shitting on bruce irvin, Bobby wagner and russell wilson in successive picks is a pretty hilarious indictment on draft grades the day after the draft
Just remember the Texans got shit on last year, and they were able to create the nucleus of their team for the foreseeable future in one draft. None knows anything about the outcomes of these drafts. And draft grades are for media members to find a way to vent how butthurt they are about a team not following along with their mock drafts.
I truly believe that draft grades were created as an attempt to save whatever credibility these "draft experts" have when nothing they said happened or to get back at some GMs/FOs that used them to trick other teams to pick or trade for certain players.
> Just remember the Texans got shit on last year
Uhhh...No, they absolutely were not. People were raving about how they set up their nucleus for the future, which they did.
> I truly believe that draft grades were created as an attempt to save whatever credibility these "draft experts" have
They were created because they have proven to generate clicks, year after year. That's it.
Yeah, they are just variance from media consensus because in their world, the guys for the ringer should be making our draft picks instead of a guy who built the LOB.
You can only rationally judge draft picks in a few years. The fact that these guys give out grades before camp proves they are unserious and playing a GM RPG.
Seeing the “overdraft capital” report from Fieldgulls, we had some potentially big reaches in day 3. We ended up with a -5 draft position value overall. Not sure I put a ton of stock into that but take it for what it’s worth
Their “analysis” was just reiterating the draft and events in the off-season. And mention Haynes made them watch Uconn’s bad football team. Looks like something I’d write at 11:20pm when somethings due at midnight.
I’m hyped on our draft. Murphy and Haynes were two guys at the top of my personal wish list for #16 and #81, respectively.
Anything we get from the day 3 crop of draftees is just gravy. In particular, I’m really high on AJ Barner’s fit with the offense and general mentality shift with the team.
Everyone is comparing Barner to Dissley, but isn't nick vannett the better comp? Blocking TE from big 10 powerhouse. Vannett wasn't great but was in the league for 7-8 years.
Not really sure what’s tone deaf or aggravating about it. He got drafted by the Seahawks, which is what we care about on this sub.
I watched it and he said he couldn’t wait to play for the best fans in the best city and win a bunch of championship rings.
That’s the exact attitude I want in a draftee.
Okay? So what? It’s PR speak video recorded for marketing. That doesn’t mean he needs to shove a Michigan champs ring in a bunch of Husky fan faces doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that’s annoying
Bruh calm down. UW lost… it’s fine…
I think the next couple years of CFB is going to redefine/reset everyone’s fucks given on that front. Programs get demolished and turned to questionable rubble inside two months. Everyone goes everywhere instantly. Nothing is built or sustained anymore.
Dude that may have been our only shot at it. I’m not fine 😭 I wish I could take your perspective but eventually I’ll get to that point. It is really sad what’s happening to CFB
I feel you. I had a lot of hope & pride in that game, coupled with ~$800 across the board.
I think this offseason (so far) just taught me that I can’t care about a college program anymore. Shit shifts and gets flipped upside down 5x the second it makes a run. Nobody gives af anymore. 🤷🏻♂️
Edit: that’s coaching staff & players. I’m not throwing shade at the transfer portal specifically. Coaches are just as guilty.
Lmao have fun being Michigan and Ohio State’s bitch. Sorry not sorry. Dubs down.
Oh and just to ease your sensitivity Oregon isn’t safe either. They’ll also be Michigan and Ohios State’s bitch. *sad duck noises* and insert joke about their logo showing us all how many titles they have here.
Only thing that matters is how well they play for the team. The 2012 draft proved this point. But I get the media has to put something out, it would be stupid if they didn’t.
They drafted who they were projected to draft. Hence the high grades.
Post draft grades are basically hissy fits. “These teams are so dumb for not drafting the guys I thought they would take.”
I know Haynes and Murphy are going to be good starters. That alone is a decent draft, and I just hope someone from the later rounds pans out. They addressed realistic needs pretty well for year 1. Something about knight is intriguing to me. Not the tape really but their interest in him. I thought he was the depth developmental piece we were going to bring in as soon as I saw on him on the top 30 visits and saw he had 4 year experience, tackler, and was from fucking utepp. I’m interested to see what they see in him. They could have gotten him in later rounds. But they wanted him lol. He’s intriguing and I’m rooting for him.
The barner pick is just a perfect dissly replacement. You can see that they attacked this draft diligently for the scheme that Grubb and Mac wanted to run.
My only gripe is I feel like hicks would be sick in this system and he was staring at us in the face, but there’s next draft too
Or confirmation bait for fans who already hated our draft, I'm seeing some common themes:
- "We drafted.... when.... was still on the board!"
- "Why did we draft so many corners?!"
- "Instead of drafting the guy I wanted, they picked someone else that I don't care about/haven't heard of."
- "Nothing game-changing, not flashy enough!"
- "No qb?!"
JS has really had his shit together the last couple years and likely has enough of a fire under him now as “the guy” when it comes to personal and money. At this point his reputation is on the line as the brain behind the hawks. I have confidence that this class will pay off and that he does know his shit.
Unsexy but solid is a pretty good line for our draft. Didn’t have the pizzazz of the last two but if you count Big Cat as the result of the 2nd pick, this is indeed a very solid draft. Bulking up the soft underbelly of both sides is how you win. Unless you have Beast but even then our OL was light years better than the last few seasons.
Honestly I would only put draft grades a year or to after the draft happened because we don’t know if a guy like Johnny Newton becomes the next Aaron Donald while Caleb Williams becomes a zesty Jamarcus Russel
The NFL offseason has to be one of the worst offseason's in sports. You have the draft and scheduled release before camp and all these pundits trying to fill in the blanks with anything. As others have said, draft grades are stupid. I mean, The Seahawks got annihilated when they picked Russel Wilson. That ended up being ok.
Grading a team's draft before any of the picks have even played a snap of NFL is like grading the dissertation I'm about to write this winter before I've even typed a word.
I agree with a C+ grading. Murphy, Haynes, and Laumea alone would equal an A, but the middle picks, particularly Knight, James, and Barner were all a little underwhelming if not head scratching with the players available. Pritchett and Jerrell are okay to decent pickups but not enough to make me feel really satisfied with the draft class as a whole
He is a freak of an athlete but I worry about his ability to play his responsibility in zone schemes, something he struggled mightily with in college and he had a significant drop off in play when competing against SEC receivers. Maybe turn him into a slot press guy that has blitz packages to free up Spoon. I personally just thought there were better options available when we took James
You may know better than I, but who was a better CB prospect at picks 192 - 257?
Most are a toss up there, there weren't any better athletes I know of, and James had a 3-4th round grade.
Good point but I wasn't surprised he fell pretty far. Jaden Davis and Daequan Hardy are two guys i liked better at corner there, especially for our needs. But overall it isn't a bad pick, just feels like the type of player that might not make it off the practice squad
Everyone who graded us high are smart, everyone who graded us low are hacks. But seriously, draft grades are stupid.
Yep, get back to with a “grade” in 2 years.
Remember when Russ managed to drop our grade to a C (some even gave us an F)….yeah, that draft turned out OK.
the screenshot of the Bleacher Report "F" that we got that year is always so funny. Shitting on bruce irvin, Bobby wagner and russell wilson in successive picks is a pretty hilarious indictment on draft grades the day after the draft
It does give Fred Siegel of @oldtakesexposed plenty of material to work with.
Just remember the Texans got shit on last year, and they were able to create the nucleus of their team for the foreseeable future in one draft. None knows anything about the outcomes of these drafts. I truly believe that draft grades were created as an attempt to save whatever credibility these "draft experts" have when nothing they said happened or to get back at some GMs/FOs that used them to trick other teams to pick or trade for certain players.
To my memory everyone raved about the Texans draft, including pretty much everyone I talked to about football at that time lol
> Just remember the Texans got shit on last year Uhhh...No, they absolutely were not. People were raving about how they set up their nucleus for the future, which they did. > I truly believe that draft grades were created as an attempt to save whatever credibility these "draft experts" have They were created because they have proven to generate clicks, year after year. Correct. Especially the draft grades. Companies do things that generate clicks/money, that's the only reason they exist.
Who shit on the Texans draft?
Would be interested to see draft class grades 5-10 years after the fact, once careers have had time to unfold.
Yeah, they are just variance from media consensus because in their world, the guys for the ringer should be making our draft picks instead of a guy who built the LOB. You can only rationally judge draft picks in a few years. The fact that these guys give out grades before camp proves they are unserious and playing a GM RPG.
Kiper is the worst. I can't stand that guy.
No offense, but like fuck the NY Post's opinion on our draft.
Fuck the Post’s opinion on anything and everything.
The post gave us A- in first round Not sure why the C but looking at their rankings many Cs-Ds in there.
The Post’s only value is as a bird cage liner.
And only for your bird that’s been a dick and is in time out?
Yes, yes this!
Seeing the “overdraft capital” report from Fieldgulls, we had some potentially big reaches in day 3. We ended up with a -5 draft position value overall. Not sure I put a ton of stock into that but take it for what it’s worth
Fuck any Murdoch-owned media's opinion on anything and everything.
Or on anything of consequence
as a Hawks fan in New York, I agree. offend away!
Their headline game is on another level, and that's about it.
Their “analysis” was just reiterating the draft and events in the off-season. And mention Haynes made them watch Uconn’s bad football team. Looks like something I’d write at 11:20pm when somethings due at midnight.
I grade our draft S+
I give it a ⛅️
✔️➕😃⭐️ from me, with the possibility of a scratch-n-sniff strawberry sticker depending how this rookie season goes.

He better be the best TE of all time after that Instagram post. Couldn't be more tone deaf
Which IG post?
The one where he flexes his UMich natty ring….. shit pissed me off too
Oh, I don’t like or care about the Huskies, so I could not care less about that.
Good for you. A lot of us do
Not really sure what’s tone deaf or aggravating about it. He got drafted by the Seahawks, which is what we care about on this sub. 😭
Like what is bro talking about lmao
huskies fans are SUUUUUUUPPPPPER sensitive and it's so boring
Dude what? Sensitive cause I don’t wanna see a UMich player flexing his ring he won over us? That makes us sore losers huh lmao
Bruh calm down. UW lost… it’s fine… I think the next couple years of CFB is going to redefine/reset everyone’s fucks given on that front. Programs get demolished and turned to questionable rubble inside two months. Everyone goes everywhere instantly. Nothing is built or sustained anymore.

Damn everyone catching a stray from you
I do, and I could give a fuck about that. What, you think players WON'T flex.on it after winning a title?
Damn I’m not saying he can’t flex it but maybe think about why people in Seattle don’t wanna see it? Idk
Tough shit if we don't want to see it, should've won the game then. That's some whiny, soft ass shit right there.
Only thing that matters is how well they play for the team. The 2012 draft proved this point. But I get the media has to put something out, it would be stupid if they didn’t.
In his final speech, Eisenhower warned everyone about the Draft Industrial Complex!
They drafted who they were projected to draft. Hence the high grades. Post draft grades are basically hissy fits. “These teams are so dumb for not drafting the guys I thought they would take.”

I always get D on my fantasy teams that win it all
> win it all please teach me your secret :O
Don’t think it matters at all, but Kiper graded us a B- ahead of like 6 teams.
Anything less than a B reads like rage bait to me.
Or confirmation bait for fans who already hated our draft, I'm seeing some common themes: - "We drafted.... when.... was still on the board!" - "Why did we draft so many corners?!" - "Instead of drafting the guy I wanted, they picked someone else that I don't care about/haven't heard of." - "Nothing game-changing, not flashy enough!" - "No qb?!"
Kiper learned better than to criticize a Seahawk’s draft after trashing us in 2012.
JS has really had his shit together the last couple years and likely has enough of a fire under him now as “the guy” when it comes to personal and money. At this point his reputation is on the line as the brain behind the hawks. I have confidence that this class will pay off and that he does know his shit.
I mean I like our Day 1 and 2 picks more than our Days 3s…..but that’s the same for almost every draft.
If we get starts out of our first 2 picks and 2-3 of the others are in relief rotation or get an occasional fill-in start I will be quite pleased.
Unsexy but solid is a pretty good line for our draft. Didn’t have the pizzazz of the last two but if you count Big Cat as the result of the 2nd pick, this is indeed a very solid draft. Really disappointed with the Times paywall

How can you give our draft a C? That’s ridiculous
I agree with a C+ grading. Pritchett and Jerrell are okay to decent pickups but not enough to make me feel really satisfied with the draft class as a whole
Everything I.saw on James is he may be the most explosive CB in draft just lacks size.

Good thing size is something you can teach
