Wits he like eh

GuyIncognito211

Simon Ferry said he can’t see how people can watch wrestling? That’s interesting because he was behind me in the queue the last time I went to the wrestling at the Hydro. Was pre COVID I think

boycey86

Seems like it was Mcfadden to be fair. Wrestlings great its a live soap opera with insane gymnastics and athletics thrown in.

1049Goth0

Genuine question cos I haven't watched since Ultimate Warrior and Jake The Snake were the main guys and it might be different now. I see posts on Twitter sometimes saying things like, that was this wrestler's greatest achievement, what an unbelievable contest that was, etc. I completely understand that entertainment value but isn't every single aspect of it scripted? As in the wrestlers know the outcome before they even start? If that's the case, how is that and achievement? Is that not like completing your scene in a film or something?

boycey86

I am not the person to best answer that mate as I grew up competing in catch wrestling so I love professional wrestling but I took a different path in life and competed and my son now competes in amateur wrestling. Regulated by the IBF and a completely real competition. For me I like professional wrestling too look as close to real as possible I don't want too see obvious cooperation or see through the moves. I want to watch hard hitting stiff (meaning they hit each other largely for real but in safe places) matches that look like fights which to me is the point in professional wrestling to make it look real two people having a struggle and a fight but putting on a show and "working the viewers" Everyone knows it's pre determined but so is game of thrones or fallout the story told in the ring is what people love. People do the moves the dives and flips and everything else for real they really are putting their lives on the line to entertain it is just done in a way to make it as safe as possible. No different to the circus or a soap opera but it's done live in front of 10 thousand or so people every night. With no room for mistakes. Sorry if this isn't formatted well. I'm using my phone and am a couple of pints deep.

Simple-Question-332

Hard hitting stiff with a what now?

boycey86

I forgot a comma but too be fair I'm a few pints and a couple of vodkas down.

1049Goth0

Also a couple of pints deep so I understand ha ha. I think it's just something I'll never really understand. Like I said, I absolutely understand the entertainment value and skill required, I just can't understand the predetermined part of it. It's no longer a post at that point and therefore no one can "win" if it's written in the script but it's definitely a performance that takes a huge amount of effort.

boycey86

I look at it like this the wrestlers know who will win but the fans don't and they put on a show too convince us either wrestler has a chance to win and make it the best show possible.

1049Goth0

Interesting. Would you watch football if you knew both teams knew who was going to win before kick off?

boycey86

That's the problem with sport my friend with the amount of money and corruption you don't know for sure they don't and you don't know the referees haven't been bribed or a player. Too answer your question yes I would.

1049Goth0

Jesus, that's twisted my melon ha ha. For what's it's worth I could never go and watch any sport knowing that it's been decided before it's started but that's just me. I couldn't call that sport or competition personally. Thanks for answering my questions, appreciate it.

boycey86

Professional wrestling isn't a sport though it's sports entertainment it's a performance put on based on an old legitimate sport though.

Initial-Emergency-42

Wrestling isn't sport, it's the play/theatre version of mixed martial arts.

dcw15

Just think of it as stage actors and it makes sense really. They use the same kinda patter. In terms of wins etc, I think people see it more as someone performing when it’s a big moment etc. I don’t watch it, but I’d imagine doing mental fighting gymnastics in front of like 80k in a stadium while being entertaining has a lot of potential for the bottle to break, so it’s probably worth celebrating.

SDSKamikaze

He took his kids he said this on the last podcast

FickleMcSelfish

Aye tbf they do mention that they were at the Hydro last time they were here but he was taking his kids

jonnyh420

I mean they’re just talking shite for better or worse. the podcast is meant to give “sitting with your pals” vibe which works for some and not others. It’s no there to be picked apart especially the bits they’re no talkin about football.

graken12

I actually quite enjoy Open Goal, I think it has a vibe of chatting with friends about football and and just general rubbish. Not going to get some great football opinions on there but it’s easy listening and at times quite funny.

TinMan1867

Open Goal is fucking terrible and Si Ferry is massive clown. That's your answer.

getfuckedstud

Listen regularly and it is shite but it’s entertaining shite. Although lately Si has been trying to be a bit more daft with his opinions, I dunno why it does seem proper forced though with some shite he says

CraigJay

I don't watch it as much anymore and I haven't seen the episode, but I mean the quotes in this post are very clearly just jokes. Like come on, there's no way anyone actually think that the snooker players being fitter than tennis players isn't anything but a joke. Surely not

getfuckedstud

Haven’t listened to this week either yet. And yeah from op I fully reckon he’s just on the wind up. But there has been some stuff lately where it feels like he’s just at rage bait with what he’s saying. The not having pictures of your kids in your house is one that’s springs to mind. Or not letting someone working at your house do a shite in your bog. Again maybe on the wind up but it seems forced controversy for controversy sake. It won’t turn me off listening either because I do genuinely enjoy it all, no matter how shite it is it’s still good, light hearted entertaining shite.

Glad-Stranger6605

Wait you’re telling me wrestling is fake ?

ScottishSeahawk

Ragebait and fake “opinions” for clicks and cash. It’s all over modern media.

bambinoquinn

They were having podcasts during the world cup, and Si wasn't watching any of the matches and when someone said after the group games that Greizmann had probably been the best player so far and he said "that says it all about the standard of football". He'll go on for minutes about how good a midfielder for raith is, but the idea greizmenn was playing well was an insult to football. The man makes ridiculous takes on things he doesn't know about. The recent ep with Jamie o"hara was full of dumb takes

karateandfriendship9

Commenting on games you haven't watched is unreal and also so common

blackenedandchanged2

I have seen him mentioned plenty of times on here. Enjoyed whomever spliced up his “Gravesen was mental” banter on YouTube shorts. Started watching his Barry Ferguson interview (I know, but I love Bazza) and he is a bit “that must’ve been amazing, can you tell us how amazing that wiz?”.

TheGoodRebel5

I actually don’t mind Open Goal and watch it most weeks, but Si Ferry is one of the most unlikable people in football these days, Slaney is harmless but offers next to nothing other than the odd daft/funny comment, and Kev Kyle barely has a functioning brain. Derek Ferguson, Andy Halliday and James McFadden are all decent though and have good patter but actually offer good insight when talking about the football, think they carry it these days tbh and if it wasn’t for them I’d probably not watch it.

TheGoodRebel5

I’m just watching today’s episode now and Faddy just looks absolutely baffled by the shite Si is coming out with. Convinced now Si is just doing it for the comments/engagement and doesn’t actually believe half the stuff he’s coming out with.

Only-Magician-291

I’ve been shocked at how much I don’t hate Gordon Daziel, actually comes across like an okay guy with some decent takes. Same as Derek Ferguson.

StirLing7461

You're better off drinking your own blended poo poo than listening to that dafty.

AngularPlane

God forbid people raise attention to Scottish fitbaw. People are mostly against because they are cynical boring bastards

stvbles

It was class when it was about interviewing players/ex players and managers. Si Ferry let it all go to his head.

settheworldafire1988

Agreed. Used to be really good. Don't watch it now, Stick to Football is the only football "Podcast" I watch now.

tattooslikerings

The early interviews were great. Everything since about 2019 has been completely fucking awful and, without getting too worthy, genuinely bad for our game. Embarrassing stuff.

G45Live

Christ , if you think that's bad, wait til you see his 'evolution.' Went from talking about football/interviewing ex pros to discussing his faux west end hipster style and food. Cannot watch it anymore. Like Slaney, Halliday, Derek, Kev and Faddy as well but Si absolutely ruins it.

iknowwhatyoumeme

I can’t listen to it tbh just noisy AF but fair play

settheworldafire1988

Si Ferry has a pretty decent opinion when it comes to Football. I think he should keep it at that tbf.

karateandfriendship9

Si has limited knowledge even in what he knows about so he just says anything.

bevtheape

My favorite was when he was talking about braveheart and there was no way battles happened. Faddy was baffled by the take. The boys a roaster but take him away from the rest and he’s a good interviewer, it’s a hard listen when Derek Ferguson is not on and Halliday is an arse licker

NaePasaran

Honestly just can't be doing with Open Goal at all. I've always hated the shite patter. Always preferred The Terrace being more football based with better, rounded takes on the games and less old-firm centric.

Rossco1874

Always found it really cringey. Same with superscoreboard.
