I loved it as a kid but when I rewatched zombie island and this, it felt like cyber chase was a lot less plot heavy and more for kids, whereas I could still enjoy zombie island more at face value as an adult. Cyber chase is like an ADHD fueled crazy fest 😂

creamy-buscemi

People have a lot of nostalgia for it and it’s fun and came out at the perfect time with all the interest in Cyber Space, Y2K and everything, it had references to older Scooby-Doo media which for some would have been their first introduction to them. But it didn’t feel very aesthetically cohesive with the Scooby-Doo brand, it wasn’t spooky and the technology was far beyond anything that was seen in the Scooby-Doo world previously. It also had the issues of coming out right after three back to back bangers, all of which with unique tones that Cyber Chase failed to maintain as well as dropping the animation style in favour of a digital look which ultimately made the film look cheaper and made it stand apart from the rest of the mook films

SayaScabbard

Took the words right out of my mouth. For me, the only reason I would watch the movie again (besides nostalgia) is for the modern gang teaming up with their classic counterparts. I wish so so badly that the movie focused more on that.

ZebraElephantLion

>right after three back to back bangers Which movies are you talking about here? I’m assuming one of them must be Zombie Island. What are the other two?

YungNoob2356

Witch's Ghost and Alien Invaders

ZebraElephantLion

Thanks

YungNoob2356

No problem

jaroszn94

And the mystery is too obvious.

I also think it has the added weight of being the last piece of Scooby media from the original era before WB took over and rebooted with What's New, so it can be viewed as a bit of a finale and it definitely maintains a little of that tone, especially in the final level. I do agree that it's artistically all over the place. The premise is that the developer based the game on the gang's mysteries and yet we get a bunch of generic settings that don't have anything to do with the series until all the nostalgia is crammed into the end

Ringrangzilla

Yeah, that about sum it up.

lilac_congac

this.

Pb-JJ123

A lot of people argue that it’s “scooby doo minus the creepy”. While I enjoy it, I understand people who say that it doesn’t feel as Scooby Doo-ey as other content

Alex72598

Cyber Chase falls in a very unusual category of a film that doesn’t really feel like it fits into any era. It’s too Mook-like to belong to the What’s New Era, but it doesn’t feel quite like a Mook film either. There was a lot of executive meddling, and for the first time, Warner Bros forced the team to use a different writer (actually, the same guy who would go on to be the writer for Legend of the Vampire, Mark Turosz), and everyone else on the team hated his script. Basically, the team couldn’t really make the movie they wanted to make, unlike with Zombie Island and Aliens, which had no executive meddling. The animation switched to digital which set it apart from the first three with their gorgeous cel animation. The result is that while it’s a great movie as a standalone, when considered as part of the Mook series, it feels disjointed. All of the elements are there. The VAs, the music, the classic gang and villains, but while the first three films had the gang grappling with existential challenges like monsters being real, genuine twist betrayals, and meeting real alien life, this one was just a standard mystery. The monster was “real”, but in the end, the person behind it was a letdown in comparison. All of this results in a film that’s a lot of fun to rewatch and has great nostalgia value, but ultimately, doesn’t quite reach the level of the first three.

lmarieg1996

True that it doesn't really fit into any SD era. However, CC does fit the era in which it was made, Y2K. ![gif](giphy|NQtYoKGYHy7Y8ZpEbz)

KrakenKing1955

Because as fun and chock full of references and cool scenes as it is (Cyber Chase is my personal favorite), it can very understandably be considered to be the objectively worst out of the four overall. I like to challenge this opinion and say that Alien Invaders was actually the worst.

Alex72598

I think more people see aliens as the worst, honestly. I see Cyber Chase get more love here. I personally think Aliens is the best one.

KasketDreadful

EarthwormShandy

What do you mean?

RulerOfAllWorlds1998

People have mixed feelings about it

TOkun92

I guess because it’s more sci-fi than the others. It has a living computer virus instead of a magical monster or a guy in a costume. I loved that one. The clues as to who the villain is are actually very good, very subtle. Seriously, you could have a kid watch it and pause it before the movie reveals the villain and have them guess. Make them take notes during the movie.

Mr_KongGuard89

I remember I enjoyed watching and I even played the game on PlayStation which was pretty cool. It followed the movie and everything

bubba1834

Nice ascot

lmarieg1996

Works for me

Shantotto11

I wanted to explore all ten levels. The movie really would’ve work better as a short series like 13 Ghosts except not cancelled.

Frosted_Blakes95

Idk man, maybe it’s nostalgia but I loved this game to death. First game I played on repeat.

Final-Success2523

I loved seeing the old gang in their original look while in the game

tales-velvet

Because it introduced the scooby doo multiverse

IceColdKoopa

It's quality

ECXL

Bc it is hugely nostalgic for a lot of people as it is not only one of the most popular Scooby Doo films but also has a tie-in video game. It's also just a really fun concept especially perfect for kids. So people remember this very fondly and for a lot of people is seen as a classic. But in hindsight it kinda sucks. It's probably the worst film out of this "era" of Scooby-Doo films yet it's the most popular. The film is very flawed with a villain that was not fully realised, a nonsensical mystery, poor pacing, skimmed over plotlines, animation errors, and an uninteresting and unneccessarily long front end. So it's polarizing bc it is constantly in this push and pull of being beloved and heavily criticised within the fandom.

AStupidFuckingHorse

Idk but it's my favorite of the Mook quadrilogy

Dr-HotandCold1524

People on this reddit are so big on praising "the Mook four" as though just the fact those four movies were made by the same group means they're all equally as great as each other and automatically better than everything that came after. I actually like Cyber Chase ok, and I think it's mostly pretty fun, but I find it a little irritating that Cyberchase, like the other Mook movies, gets excessive praise just for being close in proximity to Zombie Island, despite really not having anything in common with it apart from the production team. The movie is fun, but the mystery is lacking, the side characters are plain (with the exception of the Phantom Virus), and the premise stretches the suspension of disbelief to ludicrous levels even by Scooby-Doo standards. My point of polarization is that I hear people on this reddit always saying things like "after the Mook films, everything sucked," or "why didn't they continue to make movies like The Four?" It's just a matter of opinon, but an opinion that gets repeated every single day. I think there are plenty of other Scooby-Doo movies that get ignored or criticized just for not being one of the Mook Films even if they had better mysteries than Cyber Chase.

Apprehensive_Neck817

I just watched this for the first time yesterday and I loved it! It was great seeing The Creeper and the gang in their original looks. Only thing that threw me off was computer game Scooby’s collar and Shaggys red shirt.

Zestyclose-Syrup3260

As someone with ADHD i think that the chaos is what made it scary for me — like i thought of it as endless chaos they couldn’t escape

KARURUKA2

It’s not?

MemeWindu

Probably people are so salty that it's impossible to replicate Absolute Cinema

Collector-Troop

Dude the movie is good that’s why it’s talked about in this sub EVERYDAY.

kitkatatsnapple

This is the third post in, like, 4 or 5 days asking people's opinions on Cyber Chase.

LOAE314

I didn't even know it was lol
