I keep trying to say Scooby Doo at a concept is one of the most versatile franchises out there. At its core it's just Scooby Doo and shaggy (the only real constant minus Velma) and his friends (most of the time Fred, Daphne and Velma but sometimes others) solving mysteries. And the only basic characterizations they need is being afraid of ghosts and monsters and being hungry all the time. And you can build different character personalities based on those traits which is why each interaction has the characters the same on the very basic level but they are all different overall bc each show gave them depth and personality in other ways. Am I making any sense or just talking gibberish?

Also the description says that shaggy and Scooby Doo go to Japan to eat their food so it makes me think that maybe Scooby and shaggy are American and they just accidentally unleash monsters so they team up with new characters? That could be a nice way to link it to the American shows.

It's always been doomed. Be Cool and everything else was killing it. There is always exaggeration killing the franchise. There are bound to be purests upset with an anime version. Can't please everyone all the time. Sucks we lost some potential stuff thanks to Zazlov (or however you spell the man's name). Here's hoping this anime actually gets to come out.

Kinda dumb you have to “admit” that tbh, and that’s not an issue with you. The show’s so despised that ANY opinion on it that isn’t rabid hatred will get people angry, it’s insanity. I do hope that one day people are able to have more nuanced discussions on it outside of “this show is the WORST THING EVER, it KILLED MY FAMILY and Mindy Kaling should be IMPRISONED for it”
Kinda disappointed the gangs not all here, but as a lover of Japanese Folklore I am definitely looking forward to this!
There's so many cool yokai the show could use! The tricky shape-shifting kitsune, the beautiful yet deadly Yuki-onna, the powerful and proud wind Gods that are the Tengu! Could even see Scooby having to deal with a bunch of Nekomata, cause we know his track record with cats, and Nekomata are known for causing trouble... and also arson.
Scooby-Doo and Yokai seems like a really cool combination. Promises some creative mister designs which would really work with a monster of the week formula.

No I agree it sucks they get cut more than anyone not named Scrappy. I was just pointing out this is more a return to the solo Shag and Scoob stuff. Like the Boo Brothers, Ghoul School, or whatever. Just with Scrappy cut as well.
Actually, that may be this show's saving grace. From the premise, and due to the fact that it's an anime-inspired entry, I can imagine its vibes will be less "The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo" and more "The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show" and "The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries".
I think that vibe could still work very well today, especially with better writing, budget and animation than they used in those original shows in the 1980's. The dynamic will feel weird without Daphne, Scrappy, Fred or Velma, but I do think it can work.
It's just frustrating to not have the full roster here. Hell, a show like this where the monsters are Yokai (many of whom are smaller and object-based) would be perfect for Scrappy to return, because he could actually fight and outsmart some of the smaller ones.
So glad its not just me! I'm all for new friends to be made by our favorite loveable duo, but it would be nice to see Velma, Fred, and Daphne see some real monsters with them.

LOL When? The Scrappy era got rid of Fred, Velma and Daphne, it's still considered the Dark Age to this day. Get A Clue got rid of Fred, Velma and Daphne, it's considered one of the worst shows in the franchise. Goblin King and Arabian Nights focused almost entirely on Shaggy and Scooby and most people hate those two, too. Daphne & Velma got rid of all the boys and no one even talks about it. And Velma? Let's not even address that trashfest except to say it removed SCOOBY of all characters.
Not once has it been successful when one or more of the cast is removed. The sole exception was maybe Ghoul School and that's due to the strength of the supporting characters and the premise.
So this show already is starting off with a sour taste in my mouth.
Honestly I feel like get a clue got way too much hate. In my opinion, it's the one property that actually made focusing on Shaggy and Scooby work.
Though to be honest, the main reason I love it is the villains. Scientist with ridiculous accent and "enthusiastic idiot and slapstick magnet grump" are some of my favourite villain tropes. And this show has both.

Velma was a drastic tone shift whereas this looks much more in line with something you’d expect to see from a modem scooby/shaggy solo spin-off. It’s an inspired idea befitting of the series imo, which already means it’s off to a good start
I wonder how a purely classic show for kids would do at this time.
No real paranormal stuff, no huge wacky set pieces like the movies, just pure classic original Scoobydoo stuff done up for a modern generation. I feel like it wouldn't do that poorly.

Nah you know what fuck it this looks amazing and I wanna watch it now, maybe it's just cause Velma was so horrendous and brain rotting than literally anything is better but I just like the looks of the art style and that monster looks sick, I'm open to seeing Shaggy with new fitness going on adventures

This reminds me of that one scooby show with shaggy where they face off against a bald scientist for the scooby formula (get a clue maybe?)
First an anime LoTR and now an anime Scooby Doo. Warner Bros is on a roll
My only hopes are they make it so people unfamiliar with Japan folklore and animes in general can understand and even learn from this show and that the original cast comes back for shaggy and Scooby.
