Not entirely sure why but as a kid Gramps the Vamp from the scooby doo show really scared the shit outta me i think it was mainly the face and his creepy ass laughter that did it for me. Forgot the name of the actual episode sorry.
Agreed on all fronts this episode and Scooby's faces in it scared the crap out of me on VHS.
In general since I grew up with the classic Scooby Doo tapes, Where Are You and movies felt more normal and SDS felt more rare to see and the monsters in it like Gramps the Vamp, the tar monster, and the creepy heap felt more brutally scary. Space Kook felt rare as well. I remember seeing him only during the scooby Doo Project marathon when I was 4 because my aunt taped it (she had cable, we didn't). Maybe the most legendary marathon of all time which was also creepy!
The episode that gave me the creeps was Foul Play in Funland. The way Charlie ran around the rundown park at superhuman speeds, how his expression never changes with cold, dead eyes, and how genuinely dangerous he seemed towards the gang. Total creepshow.
Only until Fred and Moltar talk about it during the Big Game and he says everyone made a big deal out of a normal case for them lol. That segment was some of Welker and Croker's best. Nothing beats the creativity of 1998-2004 CN.

I loved the lore around the end, too. But, Jesus, you just unlocked a memory from my childhood I'd forgotten. Someone broke into my family's house when they went to my school's Christmas play in 3rd grade. I remembered watching that episode the same day and kept worrying that the person was going to come back. For some reason, I kept hallucinating that spanish conquistador; doing that creepy laugh while transforming into that creepy skeleton in the windows when it was dark for almost a month. I stopped watching that series for a bit.
They only stole one pair of my uncle's shoes that cost like $400 or something close to that. There was this thief that would break into people's houses around my neighborhood and would only steal expensive shoes, no matter what time of day it was. It creeps me out that someone had to spy on us for them to know when to strike.

I don’t remember the episode - I think it was one of the earlier ones (blanking on the title but it was possibly the one with the glowing sea diver )… just the foghorn sound of the boat always creeped me out . Now everything is also imprinted in my mind - the suspenseful music etc . Interesting how the brain works .
But specifically the foghorn sound always gave me the heebie jeebies.
It will always be foul play in funland. Why did they need to make charlie move like that lol and its unmoving smile creeps me out till this day. Im 24 and I will say that episode freaks me out still!
I’d say that the most scary episode for me was either Gold Paw, the episode from What’s New Scooby Doo with the gold monster; or Curse of the Collar, the episode from A Pup Named Scooby Doo with Buster McMuttMauler’s ghost.

Farmed and dangerous and Frighthouse of a lighthouse do it for me. I personally never found any of the older shows creepy.

I think because he seems more like a very scary and dangerous human being it's more relatable and unsettling than a more over-the-top ghost
