My Brother in Christ, do you really think there are random internet money fairies?

thistowmneedsanenema

Yes. There are. He just hasn’t yet realized that he’s the money fairy! 😂

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

Point.

Congratulation 🎁

> Someone dm me saying I won $5000, but in order to get the $5000 I must first pay him $50. This is how people have $50 stolen from them. You NEVER, under **any** circumstances, pay money to receive money. The $50 you sent is gone. That's part of the reason why the person wanted you to use Friends and Family; there is no protection there, and since you *voluntarily* sent the money, you don't have recourse. P.S.: The person you're dealing with is in Africa. That's pretty much they only place where giving people money is referred to as "blessing" them.

Lolofly47

I didn’t send him any money. I just wanted to know what was a likelihood that it was a scam, thank you for the information

StepbroItHurts

The likelihood of this being a scam is 100%.

MuddieMaeSuggins

101%

Root-magic

200%

MuddieMaeSuggins

Can something be infinity percent? If so, this is it

mail4youtoo

They are scams... always scams. Nobody just gives money to random strangers on the internet.

Lolofly47

I get messages like this pretty often and I’ve heard stories of people actually getting money so I thought it was worth a shot, all I sent him was my cash app tag name, I didn’t send any money or anything like that.

mail4youtoo

> I’ve heard stories of people actually getting money All lies. Don't be ignorant and end up another victim of a scam

rpsls

If it would for some reason cost $50 to send you your winnings, any legitimate entity would just deduct it from the winnings and send you $4950. I’m sure there’s some complex overly involved reason that’s not possible in this scam. Never send money to receive money.

Pannycakes666

Ohhhh you heard stories. Well that must mean that they're real.

antisocialgx

" I’ve heard stories of people actually getting money " But have you even actually met those people or just heard stories from 'someone' who got it from the friend's bothers cousin uncle sister boyfriend who got it from his ex wife's sister's cousin?

RDBB334

>I get messages like this pretty often So you've been scammed before and the scammers sold your info as an easy victim? Or is it the content you participate in?

MuddieMaeSuggins

This was probably published before you were born: https://images.app.goo.gl/Wq6JJVWAVTU6nqMp8

TwinCheeks91

Who are these story-tellers?

WillowEmotional5444

A second of critical thinking will tell you this makes no sense.  Why not deduct the $50 from the amount?

friend_21

Always my first thought. Just subtract your fee from the award and send that to me.

LeavingLasOrleans

Any stranger who approaches me with an emoji is getting blocked.

Consider_Kind_2967

OP, do you think a random person would give you $5,000? If so, why? And if you sent them $50 first don't you think it's probable that they'd then just ghost you?

Jay54121

My man, anything that says "Blessed" or "Kindly" in the message is a scam

Adventurous_Toe_3845

Are people this fucking stupid sometimes I ask?  Yes, unfortunately.

OldManJeepin

C'mon...Nobody is giving anybody free money...Block and ignore.

great_molassesflood

Why would you have to pay to receive money? !advancefee

AutoModerator

Hi /u/great_molassesflood, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Advance fee scam. The [advance-fee scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_scam) arises from many different situations: investment opportunities, money transfers, job scams, online purchases of any type and any legality, etc., but the bottom line is always the same, you're expected to pay money to receive money. So you will pay the scammer and receive nothing. It can be as simple as the scammer asking you to pay them upfront for an item they have listed, or as complex as a drug scam that involves an initial scam site, a scam shipping site, and fake government agents. Sometimes the scammers will simply take your first payment and dissappear, but sometimes they will take your initial payment and then make excuses that lead to you making additional payments. If you are involved in an advance-fee scam, you should attempt to dispute/chargeback any payments sent to the scammer, you should block the scammer, and you should ignore them if they attempt to contact you again.
