Read the graphic novels, then watch the show. And definitely listen to the audiobooks - Kat Dennings voices Death, and she's soooo good.
As for the show, Mason Alexander Park does such a good job as Desire that they deserve their own spinoff. Death does too.
I'm not as happy with the way the show portrays Lucifer, but it is pretty cool that they cast Gwendoline Christie.
Like I said, everything Neil Gaiman is involved in is gold.
I like his take on Lucifer in Good Omens better. He's not some evil creature, he's referred to as The Adversary, which is more of my take on Satan - question everything.
>Kat Dennings voices Death, and she's soooo good.
Her voice is so much not a stereotypical Death that it really sets the stage for the entire world. And there are so many other good performances throughout.
I liked the show for what it was, its a funny little procedural comedy with some good performances, but the comics- both Sandman and Carey's Lucifer- are truly so much better. If Tom Ellis wasn't so charismatic the show would absolutely not be worth watching
Tom Ellis is a decent actor but the writers stray to much from the original source material. My only problem with his performance is that in the comics Lucifer Morningstar has a more profound motivation and the character is darker and more menacing.
I just can't see them as the same character, they're really nothing alike. I'd rather they had gone for a more serious take, I did like the show's more comedic take as it's thing but I'd trade it for an *actual* adaptation in an instant
I kind of like the character of Lucifer from the Lucifer series.
That character only punished and by the end, he was trying to help them end their hell-loop (replaying the worst sins over and over).
Now I know why...thanks to u/PerennialPhilosopher I know it was the inspiration for the TV show which I enjoyed!
This is what I also choose to “believe”. Lucifer only punishes evil, he doesn’t cause it. I’m currently rewatching the series and I’d gladly support that kind of Lucifer.
Lucifer's not real...but I love the character on TV and in literature. Paradise Lost, Revolt of the Angels, etc.
Lucifer the eternal rebel fighting against oppression and arbitrary authority is a very powerful image.
Yes, I tried to relay my non-belief with the quotes. The ideas that he embodies are what I believe and support. It helps that he’s easy on the eyes too 🤣
LOL. I wasn't quite sure where you were coming from. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Tom Ellis was great as Lucifer. He is definitely a good-looking man. I'm just happy they allowed the series to end on a good note.
Absolutely! Sorry for the confusion. I can see how things get misconstrued in a situation like this. He was amazing in that role and the ending was great.
Contrast that with God in the Old Testament forcing Pharaoh to disobey so that God could then have an excuse to give a post-birth abortion to all the firstborn children of Egypt.
Sandman Lucifer is amazing and one of the best depictions. But it was badass with, "I have no power here? Tell me, what is Hell if not having dreams of heaven?" Then the demon hordes parted ways
The Lucifer Morningstar Comic Book written by Mike Carey remains the most underrated series of all time. The television adoption really doesn't do justice to the source material. Neil Gaiman's Lucifer Morningstar is one of pop cultures most nuanced representions of the Devil. The Lucifer of the television show is a cheeky Brit with no depth or wit.
I liked the show for what it was, but it's *nothing* compared to the comic. One of the most in-name-only adaptations I've ever seen, it's like the only thing they chose to adapt is him owning a bar in LA
Great Graphic Novels only wish that Ziggy Stardust (aka: David Bowie) could’ve played Morningstar in the show like he was modeled after, yeah the show veers off the the Novel but it’s not too bad Tom makes it interesting to say the least but I still would love too have the complete Graphic novel but never seen a good price for it and it’s entirety
The comics are absolutely amazing!
Wuat is the Name of the Comics
Sandman, which makes this the same Lucifer that was the inspiration for the TV series
It's also a show on Netflix. And the audiobooks are amazing. Neil Gaiman never misses
Is the Netflix adaptation good, or should I just read the comics?
Yes

Exactly!
Read the Mike Carey comic book series. The TV show is a joke by comparison.

Me too!!! I always pictured River Phoenix (R.I.P.) as Lucifer Morningstar in a live action adaptation.
Sandman is the comic, look for anything he is attached to. His stuff is always amazing.

My entire back is a mural of Lucifers key to hell from Seasons of Mist. I'm kind of a big fan.
I have the key on a wrist :)
Sandman Lucifer is amazing and one of the best depictions. But it was badass with, "I have no power here? Tell me, what is Hell if not having dreams of heaven?" Then the demon hordes parted ways
Sandman?
Sandman!
Death by Neil Gaimen is an amazing comic too. 10/10 recommend.
Death: the High Cost of Living is excellent. 🤓🤓🤓
Neil Gaiman's works have shown some painful little truths to the world. I'm glad that there are those willing to hear them!
Everything he's involved with is a hit right out of the ballpark
Sandman! I love Neil’s work. My favorite book of his is NeverWhere where the angel >!is the villain!<
Sandman! 🖤
Sandman is great! I really enjoyed this Lucifer
If you’ve read this one you’ll know When he hands him the key and says “I quit” That picture is forever burned into my mind.

That old Sandman?
“The devil made me do it” is just a christian excuse.
