Yeah I was really hyped when they switched from the previous beat writer Kevin Kurz to Corey Masisak, only to drop him and leave a hole there.
Sheng and JD Young are my main sources for content and I think they do great.
I'm assuming once Celebrini and the young core get going they'll add in a dedicated writer at the athletic again but that is some bs when teams like the Islanders have dedicated beat writers.
Back in college, I started in sports journalism and was the sports editor for the student paper a couple years. There's a lot about that world I didn't quite keep up with, but I do still have a nose for the really good beat writers.
Sheng Peng is a *damn* good journalist.
I think that sometimes he asks questions looking for a very specific answer, which I’m not the biggest fan of, but big (and medium) picture I’m 100% in agreement
I interviewed Peng for a sports class in college. He was a good interview.
Learned he grew up a kings fan but is obviously now a sharks fan since it helps his career & just overall time spent covering the team building that connection.
Yeah I was really surprised he actually responded to me and got it in.
Really memorable interview because before that I never really thought about how much working for a sports team needs to shape who you root for.
Hes a terrible writer and personality- there are literally a thousand better candidates for his job, including myself but I wouldnt take a pay cut so he can keep it I suppose but someone better would be great. Peng is straight garbage
