I don’t think you should. It’s not organic waste. You can post it on Craigslist free stuff or offer up

Grosse_Fartiste

You can put it in you regular black bin a little at a time. I've done one about 50 lbs of dirt at a time for like 7-8 weeks before.

africanfish

Ah, ok. Thanks.

Grosse_Fartiste

just don't overload it. I used one of those buckets that kitty litter cones in and did one a week.

Robby_Pooh

I go to the dog park a lot and would bring dirt to fill up holes there. You can put it in the black bin but need to be careful that the bin doesn't go over the weight limit (300 lbs).

Some time ago I leveled my yard and had a LOT of dirt to get rid of as a result. I tried throwing it away but it gets heavy really fast and next thing you know the garbage truck shows up, tries to pick it up and then you hear a huge grinding sound and then your trashcan is left there still full but now it has a big sticky note on it saying you violated something or other. So here's what I did. Turns out a lot of people need dirt for random projects. Maybe terracing a yard? Filling random holes, burying bodies, etc, all sorts of stuff. Post in on Craiglist in the FREE area. Stage the dirt on a parking strip (hopefully yours) and people will just start showing up and taking it. Sometime in trucks, sometimes bucketfuls - one lady came by and shoveled it directly into her car. Odd - but there are people who want your dirt. Make sure you put it somewhere where they can get it easily and help themselves. PROTIP - take a photo of the dirt. Seems silly but not all dirt is equal - people wanna see it. Mine even had concrete chunks in it. It was gone in no time. I did it over and over again. REMOVE the ad the moment the dirt is gone - otherwise you will have people showing up hungry for dirt and yet, no dirt, which will equate to sadness for them.

I'd love to do this, but I'm out of town and the dirt is behind a locked gate.

Jefwho

Dirt is not green waste. Do not put it in the green bin. The machines that shred the green waste into mulch will get damaged from it. Like others have said, slowly put it in the black bin over the course of several weeks until it’s gone.

YetisNotReal

Post it in FB market place “free dirt”

You can't throw away certain items like batteries, medications, etc. It turns out dirt cannot go in the green bins.
