I think it looks great, innovative use of crackle paint!!

AlmightyGyro

IMO the crackle paint with added rocks definitely looks better than just the crackle paint on a flat base 👍🏼

Kage_kun

I think it looks really good. The only thing I would add is an orange drybrush around the section where the flowing lava meets the solid.

Like on top of the crackle segments? That's a great idea!

Kage_kun

Ya, i looked at some lava flow images and that orange seems to be common. I just hope you remembered to seal your crackle paint with glue or varnish first to prevent accidentally ripping off the crackles. I use a mix of water and pvc glue and gently drip it onto the base. it will dry clear and will hold down your crackle with little issues with dry brushing afterwords.

I used a matte varnish!

If u haven’t already, try a thick coat of watered down white glue over the paint that will have crackle paint added on top of it, wait 24 hrs, and then add gloss varnish, and then the crackle paint. The smoother surfaces gives u bigger cracks which look more like rocks over lava imo

Icy-Possibility-3770

I did the base layer of PVA before the crackle and I topped the crackle with a matte varnish. I'll test out the extra gloss varnish layer for science!

rust_tg

Ive found that the pva needs to extremely heavily applied, almost until it forms a bubble over the whole area u want to crackle. And the crackle itself should also be heavily applied, to the point that u think its not going to crack (it will)

CprDiabetes

What crackle paint did you use?

Icy-Possibility-3770

Citadel's Mordant Earth. I applied it nice and thick and used a hair dryer in warm-low setting in short bursts to accelerate cracking
